  1. Here's the link to the second and final part of my trackchasing trip to Sri Lanka. My website address is www.randylewis.org. Part 2 includes my visit to the Pannala Race Track. http://www.randylewis.org/srilankapart2.htm I had a great time visiting Sri Lanka. I actually upgraded my hotel accommodations on my final day in Sri Lanka! Also attached at the two YouTube videos that cover this part of the trip. This video includes the still photos of the trip. This video includes the racing action at the Pannala Race Track Thanks to everyone who helped me make this a good trip for trackchasing country #57. I hope you will follow along on my site as I add more countries to my trackchasing resume.
  2. Hi Folks, I sure didn't think the Ivy Banks was the best place I ever stayed in either, but it was clean (not too many ants), cheap and the breakfast was much better than it may have looked. I took the recommendation from the Tourist Drivers Association in the airport. Most of the time I can only go on the recommendations of others when I'm traveling a long way from home or a long way from my own culture. I am also glad that most have enjoyed what I posted. Since I pay my own way, I'm not accountable to anyone else so I can give my honest and direct opinions. I have done many many newspaper, radio and TV interviews. In virtually every one the writer gets something wrong, misinterprets a point or two or whatever. I just chalk it up to mee saying one thing and the listener hearing it from their point of reference. I know the say thing happens to me when I caption my photos, videos or write my Trackchaser Reports. I don't worry too much about it. When I wrote it I thought it was right! Yes, I will be posting two more videos covering the last part of my trip and my day at the Pannala Race Track. If you're interested you can see my complete list of videos at this link: http://www.randylewis.org/videos.htm. You might like to see some of the unusual forms of racing in the U.S.A. and other places I've visited. I'll be back to you shortly! Thanks to everyone who replied.

  6. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone on the AutoLanka forum who helped with information about my recent trip to Sri Lanka. I am a "trackchaser". I go all over the world seeing wheel to wheel auto racing events. To date I have seen racing at 1,735 racetracks in 57 different countries. However, my hobby is more about the "chase rather than the race". When I go somewhere far from home I try to see as much as I can of the local attractions as possible. In my short four day/three night visit I saw and did a lot. After each trip I post a Trackchaser Report and YouTube videos on my website at www.randylewis.org. If you would like to see my report click on this link: http://www.randylewi...ilankapart1.htm Again, thanks for all the help. The AutoLanka forum rocks! Randy
  7. Looking forward to the trip to Sri Lanka. I guess your weather will be a bit warmer than the Minnesota ice race track I visited today. If you're interested check out this YouTube video I made at an ice track last year. Lake has about 15 inches of ice. Here's the link: Looks like my plan is to visit the Elephant orphanage when I arrive on Friday, then tour Kandy on Saturday and get to the track on Sunday before returning home on Monday. If you have any ideas on what's best to see and do in Kandy please let me know. If you're going to the race on Sunday look for a guy about 6' 3" who looks "like he ain't from around here"! Randy
  8. Putnam Park in Indiana? I will be in Sri Lanka for just three days. Thanks for the tips. Got any more! I might try to go to Kandy for one day (what should I see), then Pinnawala on Saturday and the track on Sunday.
  9. I am from the Peoria area which is home to the Caterpillar Tractor Company. I'm going to have Friday and Saturday before the race on Sunday for touring of Sri Lanka. Any ideas? I might like to see the elephant orphanage. Might it be better to stay in Negombo instead of Colombo? All ideas are most welcome!
  10. Does anybody have any email addresses, etc. for the race organizers? Thanks. Randy
  11. Guys, Thanks for the help. I'm working on getting a hotel in Colombo now. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone in Sri Lanka or any of the race group members. It would be fun to ride down to the track with someone who knows the racing. A paddock pass would allow me to take some great photos for my website. However, eating the local food (apparently outside the paddock) when I visit international tracks is a real highlight as well!! Best, Randy
  12. Guys, Can you tell me where the track is located? I will most likely get a driver to take me from Colombo to the track. How long would it take to get from Colombo to the track? What time does the racing begin on Sunday? How many different classes will race? When I finish my visit I will post photos and a YouTube video of the racing action.
  13. I am a "trackchaser" from the United States. My hobby is trying to see wheel to wheel racing at as many different racetracks across the world as I can. To date, I have seen 1,729 tracks in 56 different countries. However, I have never been to Sri Lanka for a race or even to your great country at all. I am planning to come to the races on Sunday, February 12. After each race I visit I post a YouTube film about my experience. If you would like to see some of the places I've been check out my YouTube channel, which is named "RANLAY". I also have a website at www.randylewis.org. There I have posted more than 70,000 photos, nearly 400 YouTube films and a Trackchaser Report for every track I visit. If you have time check it out. I would like to ask the forum some questions about the racing, how to get to the track, what to do during my short stay in Sri Lanka, etc. if you would be willing to help me. Thanks. Randy
  14. Hi, I am new to your forum. Is the racing scheduled for Sunday, February 12 "wheel to wheel" racing where all the cars start the race at the same time and run for a certain number of laps? Or is it rally racing (one car against the clock)? What time do the races begin? Thanks. Randy
