  1. !!Urgent!!Any thoughts on the Dunlop LM705 tire? It was introduced during the end of the last year, so no reviews can be found.Any user? How was the earlier model, the LM704? Specifically says that these are much more comfier and less noisy.

  2. (Not an Ad?)For everyone who seek for high quality cables and connectors such as mobile phone(Type C, Micro USB 2,Lightning), Audio (AUX cables, Stereo to RCA converters) and little gadgets like card readers, chargers I highly recommend UGREEN brand which can be imported through Ebay. I ordered few cables and pretty satisfied with their build quality. I know the ones available here in SL are extremely poor in quality and that’s why I’m recommending them for anyone interested after my personal experience.

Remax brand has also been quite reliable and well built.

  3. OPINIONS WANTED ASAP.I gave up the idea of moving to a new car for a few months. But suddenly a relation of mine said that he is going to sell his 2013 Allion due to the reason that he bought the new Eclipse Cross for the permit. The car was very well maintained with KW plates imported on permit,in Maroon colour. Not met with any kind of accidents.G plus package.Only problem is that it had done 110000km.The running is almost based on highway and around colombo with good maintainence and he is quoting around 5million.For me he would most likely to reduce the price a bit.I know I have to stretch my budget to the extreme for that, but the car is in good condition. He said that he did repared the AC and an interior cleaning is needed, since he has two kids.Does it seems to be a good bargain?Sometimes he is likely to reduce the price further.Should I grab or let it go?Since he is very famous around the family for maintaining cars very well,I’m a bit hesitant to let it go?

Yup this is the 1.5 version.I always wanted a 1.8.But 1.8 version seems to be extinct in the 2013+ models.Only seen a 2011 A18 so far.

I will definietely consider about the strut bars mate when I bring her home?

    3. iRage

      iRage

Well...thanks to our lovely import tax structure...many 1.8++L did not come to the country. SO if you do not see 2013+ 1.8L variants, its probably because it didn't make sense for anyone to bring them during the period :D Like right now...wouldn't bringing down a 1.8L Allion be ridiculously pricey ?

    4. alpha17

      alpha17

Yup mate the 1.8 Allion in SL will cost equal to the S class in USA??‍♂️

  4. ?HELP WANTED ASAP!!!?I need a good quality place to paint the interior silver panels ASAP.Please share if anyone knows.Cheers

What silver interior parts you guys are referring to? If I remember right 26 series Allion/Premio came with beige or black interior with wooden panels

    3. alpha17

      alpha17

@Magnum no machan there are few silver insertings. The multifunction button panel is silver. The door’s inner handle is silver. Most of them tend to wear out faster. @RuslanThere was one place advertised in fb and I went there after calling. They said that it’s the same part I wanted. But when I got there it was the chrome door opening handle.Best thing to do is repainting them.I checked with few other shops and most of them said they are not available. The thing is when I went to inspect a car in a car sale, with a mileage of 79000km(probably done more),all those silver insertings were perfect. It should have been repainted.

  5. Am I the only one who thinks that the new 2020 Corolla Touring looks the best out of the sedan, hatch and wagon?

      matroska

completely ot but why do sri lankans hate wagons?

    3. iRage

      iRage

I think it is the simple fact that actual wagons were converted to hearses and that has created a stigma for the whole body style. So anything that had the same body style was hated. Actual wagons were as pricey as sedans (eg. Fielder and Axio) so because of the stigma I would say they preferred to go for the sedan ?

Interestingly what we call wagons are actually van variants of the body style...the DX Wagon..is actually not a wagon but a stripped down business variant...same with the ëlephant back Corolla..the wagon variants of these were the KE73G and then the AE101G (G/L Touring wagons). Same with the Nissan AD series....but then again these actual wagon variants were as pricey as their sedan counterparts....

    4. matroska

      matroska

yeah the popular 'wagon's were all Vans - bland and minimal. There was a Sprinter carib for sale on a fb car group a couple months back...those are extremely rare. Guess since we are not 'practicality' oriented people we prefer sedans (compared to  europe for instance where you rarely see a sedan)

  6. Been reading a post about Axio and reminded me of many many things. Anyway, the most significant thing is that Toyota watered down it’s quality and refinement after the 140 series. I’m not talking about the all new Corolla series, but the 160 series Axio. Yes, the 140 X grade had less options than a doctor sunny and the interior was plasticy. Still the colour combination of the enterior, design shouted that you are in a class above of all the Vitz and Belta owners. But the 160 series interior is lacking this plush feeling. Interior is dull and you get the same feeling like you are in a Vitz. Also noticed that the engine is more noisier and unrefined, where the 140 series sound deadening was closer to that of the Premio and Allion.

Then finally, Toyota rolls out the “just” Corolla crushing the Axio and even the Allion, Premio in terms of options and looks. The ride might be better too due to the independent rear sus.

@fiat fan Software glitches are somewhat acceptable as they can be rectified through over-the-air updates...But the CLA and A classes are not meant to be the ultimate Mercs in the lineup. So purposefully, they are designed with cheaper materials, but cannot accept the poor fit and finish. We’ll see how they would hold up against SL conditions.

But I see some horrible cost cutting in the new Toyotas. 2016-After Premio/Allion got some features reduced. There was a cool light in the center console which lit up when you unlock or in the near proximity to the car. It was removed...I really love that light which was there from 2007 models and at that time there this was a bit of a never-seen-before-thing in their class.

In the Axio, it’s seen everywhere.

    3. Ruslan

      Ruslan

Axio 160 is more of a Budget piece of shit to me ?. Finally Toyota is getting their act together and replacing it with a "Proper" Sedan this time. i still loves 90's Engineering, those are rock solid beasts. Analog Rules. ?

    4. iRage

      iRage

Well..the 140 series Corolla Axio was based on the same platform as the export 140 Corolla/Allion/Premio....the only difference was that they cut down the dimensions of the body panels to meet the "Japanese" road sizes. The Corolla is considered to be the car of Japan because that is the first car from Japan that made it in the global market next to the Land Cruiser. Being the car of Japan the Corolla catered to all walks of life..so the 140 series Aio had the basic variant all the way up to a classy variant (i.e. the Luxel).

With the 160 series things went hay wire....I believe it was a period where Toyota was having trouble redesigning new models for their lineup and figuring out where to invest in terms of redesign, especially when Toyota was learning the value of an integrated  platform from Mazda (SkyActiv) .So the 160 Axio redo was plagued with uncertainty stemming from not knowing what to do with the Allion/Premio, Vitz, Aqua which all needed redoing, Crown getting reworked whilst the Mark X was hanging, etc...and it seems like Toyota put all its efforts in coming up with the CHR, Yaris and the new Crown as models and then working on the TNGA platform. The TNGA was a smart move...working on the CHR was smart, working on the Yaris was also smart as hatches were the only segment un-effected by crossovers. The Crown was a gamble which paid off but short lived. However, the stupid move was moving the Axio 160 to the same platform as the Vitz/Belta/Yaris...yes....the 160 Axio went a step down. The Japanese considered it an insult to the industry but Toyota was stuck with it. IMO they should have stuck with the same platform as the previous model (which they still used for the 160 Corolla, Allion/Premio) and just stuck a new body on it....but I guess they went down a platform level because they were hoping that the Allion/Premio can be used to sail through their sedan demands (which did not work).

The new Corolla is a pretty nice drivers car...had the pleasure of driving them the last few weeks. Nice handling..good firm ride...I would say I prefer it a lot more than the new Mazda 3. Only hitch is...it feels like a bloody cave in there...the rear is dark and taping down....my wife is not very tall..5ft2inch and she was bumping her head getting in and out....

The center console light you talk about were always an option in the Allion/Premio (and other models too). It is just that during a certain time they would have been offered as a standard add-on by the dealer. As sales of the twin models died...well...none of the dealers actually cared to offer these add-ons because they were making money in other models and the Allion/Premio is just a waste of everyone's time.

    thanks???

  9. Confused to see that the inside panels of the CHR front doors are finished with soft touch materials along with the soft armrest, but rear doors have hard plastics and hard armrests. Seems like Toyota has neglected the well being of the rear passengers(small windows also included)?Cheap designers?

    1. iRage

      iRage

A lot of manufacturers have started to use slightly harder materials in the back in crossovers, wagons, etc...on account of it being more able to handle cargo and kids, etc...the touch might be slightly different but the look and  texture is pretty much the same. The feel might be slightly different with lesser padding and even lesser shiny trim bits, etc.... With older cars, like the RAV4, X-Trail etc..the whole interior was of the same paneling type; so the passenger part looked industrial or the cargo part was too soft. SO in reality, it is not designers being cheap, its actually done on purpose and also a case where production becomes more expensive (as you DO lose some of the economies of scale)

@naavislade It’s the highest grade of the Axio. During that time period, the car had some options which could only be found in higher end models(Axio is an entry level car). There are 2 variants; Luxel and Luxel Alpha edition.Alpha edition has Radar cruise control,Pre crash safety,6 airbags and auto parking. The first 2 options are not available with the normal Luxel for sure, but not sure about the others. Both have 1800cx engines with tiptronic transmission. As a fact, there might be about less than 20 cars in SL.

@Magnum Nope dude. This subwoofer is not available in SL.It’s a rare model made by Pioneer, which can be mounted inside the sparewheel. So I don’t have to sacrifice my cargo space.Ebay has listed the minimum price as $229 excluding shipping costs of over $60.

If it could be brought down by someone in his baggage, then it would be fine. If not, if you bring it down via a shipping company, it'll be charged based on the weight

  12. Drove the new Mitsu Eclipse Cross and I’m amazed by the balance between comfort and handling. Certainly comfortable as a car, while being sporty enough to rocket out the corners. Highly recommend over the Honda CRV. The turbocharged 1500cc is much more livelier than what you get in the CRV. Only downside is the fuel economy which is around 12kmpl during long runs and 6-7 round the town.

  13. Finally settled my mind for a Allion or Premio 260 2007-2009 model. If someone has or knows a well maintained one with records please contact me?

  15. For a few days, I've been thinking whether to go for an Allion/Premio or Civic fd1. Finally settled my mind on an Allion due to 3 main factors, Ground Clearance, Comfort and Reselling. I know I have to forget about driving pleasure totally. Anyway Ground clearance is a major concern as most of the new cars like fit, aqua touches the floor when entering to our house premises.

@MNI Nope mate. Due to the lack of good samples I'm being patient and waiting. Ready to wait anytime till I get my hands on a well maintained one in good condition for less than 4.5 million, or till my budget expands to 5 million. I know that there are only a handful number of vehicles which fits my criteria, since I want a 1 or 2 owned, less than 120000 kms done with records(less than 100000 kms if possible:D), G Grade one (since there are only two grades in  2007 Allion 1.5 and 1.8; base grade and G grade. This can easily be identified by the meter panel),prefer 1.5 or 1.8 (again 1.8 is preferred if possible:D). Exterior colour and interior colour is not a major concern, but can't stand that bright red:action-smiley-012:. I know I have to wait for a pretty long time:rolleyes:

  16. Has anyone used Rakuten Global to bring down parts to SL?How is it?

    1. Magnum

      Magnum

From what I'm aware of Japanese online sellers generally use an expensive shipping agent hence your shipping cost would be high and they wouldn't undervalue the product like Chinese sellers, so if there is a customs tax involved, it would be high as well.

    2. alpha17

      alpha17

@Magnum I have to bring down door mirror puddle lamps and they cost about 11000yen. So I’ll try another way

    3. Magnum

There must be a shipping cost calculator. I once ordered a paint touch pen from Japan through eBay and I remember the seller used an expensive and fast courier.

  17. Have noticed that newer Honda models are a bit hesitant at the start of a a bit steep hill climb(road to my house). All the DCT models struggles to find a gear and sometimes almost stops. So I thought that the problem might be the DCT system is a bit late to engage or troubles to find the right gear. When I drove the new 1.5 Turbo CRV, same thing happened even with no passengers, where even the 1000cc Vitz climbs easily. Once drove an ES5 but didn’t notice that issue.

  18. Hi bro.

can you give me a complete detail about the honda fd1?

i need details about the comfort side more.how does it compares with an allion 240 or axio??

  19. I’m really impressed about the fuel consumption of the Allion A15.Yeasterday had a journey to Anuradhapura through Matale and returned through Ella(340km) and It cost me only Rs.2700 using 95 octane. So the car had done closer to 19 kmpl which is kind of impressive for a car that weights 1.2tonnes plus 3 grown up people and using AC all the time.As I remember my 121 did around 15-16 for the same route.

    1. iRage

      iRage

Well...on outstation runs that probably is the upper end of what it would average (with no highway runs). The RAV4 does about 13-14 on a similar run. The 121 on the other hand..well the transmission type would play a difference, plus the 121 would have had a bit more wear and tear...and also newer engines tweaks and tech do add towards fuel efficiency.

      Ruslan

Never used it, i'm using amayama.com, partsouq or megazip (Last resort) to get down things. amayama is pretty much reliable. using partsouq to trace the part numbers. Ordered set of Brake Hoses for Vitara (Sieken and Miyaco for rear) reasonably priced (8k Rs for all 4) waiting for the shipment ?

  21. Is the Merc W212 E200 pre facelift a good choice in terms of reliability? I’ve seen many commenting about Mercs return to the days before 1995 from this car. Seen few with over 150k kms looking rock solid without wear in the interiors.

I’m not expecting Toyota like reliability, but if it has no serious issues costing 2-3 lakhs a time (like the infamous BMW N47 Timing chain failure) I wouldn’t hesitate to take one home just for sheer comfort and prestige! Seems a bargain for 7-8 million than paying for a 2016-2017 Premio. Would buy something like a Viva Elite or WagonR for bad road trips?

Guys, its getting really tiring to see thread after thread, post after post of people asking about the fuel consumption of this and that car model.

My advise is if you have to worry about how much your car is doing on gas, sell the bloody thing and take a bus!

If not just look after your car properly, pump the specified fuel, stop pouring in all the muck you see at 3am on As Seen On TV in to you engine and just enjoy your vehicle.

A 2-4 Km per liter difference will not make you a happier human being, especially when you are stuck in Colombo traffic during the school rush on a hot day with AC full on!

Cars on SL roads average 6-12 Km/l if your car is within that range, shut up and drive.

Like I said, if you have sleepless nights over this minor issue, sell the car and bus it!

this comment by @VVTi on crisco nihal thread is the most valuable note for anyone looking for a car. If you love and value your ride and take good care of it, that's all that matters. Resale value, should it be a high priority, will hold reasonably irrespective of the fuel economy if the car is well taken care of and in good nick. Just my thought :)

But the fun is unlimited all through the thread. :D
