  1. Hello everybody, I'm in a doubt since yesterday whether there is a problem in my engine.i got a chance to drive my friend's 2010 axio.i put it in the sport mode and rushed and i was truely amazed by it's performance.and there was 4 people in the car.but the acceleration is simply amazing.what i noticed is my 121 having the same engine is much slower.i know i got the 4spd auto while axio got cvt.and also 121 is lighter by nearly 100kgs.i noticed mine lacks power when overtaking.one thing that i noticed was when sometimes (for fun) floor the pedal to the end the gear changes in 4.5-5k rpm.i doesnt go upto 6k rpm.only when i put to L and then to 2 only it goes up to 6.5k rpm.i've seen here in AL some members have mentioned that 121 can accelerate faster than axio.but yesterday i clearly saw the opposite thing.anyway is it just the nature of the 121 (becoz axio got cvt) or there is a fault in mine's engine.here is my car's status -done 130000kms(axio is 72000km and it is hired for sl army) -did engine tune up and trans oil change in 97000km -maf sensor is not cleaned since the tune up What should i do now or its just the nature???experts plz help me.....
  2. Thanks for ur replies.anyway civic is not the car for him as the fuel economy and ground clearance are not good.speacially in kegalle area.hills and bumps and everything.so it seems that allion is the best option
  3. Hi everyone! One of my friends wants to go for a prius or an allion a18 under 4.5 mil.he had fd1 in the list but dumped the idea becoz of the bad fuel economy.he prefers a 1800cc engine becoz he wants a good pull than the 1500cc.he had been using an axio x before.so he asks me to get an advice for him from AL experts. -he needs to know what has the best performance, specially the acceleration -what is the comfiest -which will handle the potholes and bumpy roads well So plz give ur comments guy.that would be a big help for him Cheers
  4. Even if u go for a well maintained toyota made in the early 2000's u will not get much trouble.i've been using a 121 for nearly 4yrs and still it doesn't give me any trouble.i only did the running repairs like engine tune up,transmission oil change.shock absorbers and ac cooler.i will keep it for another 1 or 2 yrs.i love the car but the reason is not because it's a toyota.i have some special memories in it.but don't expect jaw dropping performance and limo like comfort.but u should probably take a look at cars like mazda axela/3 and of course honda civic fd series.
  5. First of all,if u r planning to install ink speakers and a subwoofer to the original audio system or an old CD reciever you would definitely get only a slight improvement in sound after Installing the jbls.so fit a nice aftermarket CD player.you should stick to brands like Pioneer,Kenwood, clarion or jvc.imo the best is the Pioneer.if your budget allows u go for a 2din DVD player from Pioneer.Pioneer offers more customization in sound effects.I'll definitely notice a huge improvement from your own speakers.then upgrade the front speakers with a brand mentioned above, mostly Kenwood or Pioneer.don't go for jbl's cos most of them in sri Lanka are fake ones. Then add a sub.better to stick with a good brand again.at the same time if I can install a decent 6x9 speakers in the front u will not have to spend ur money on a sub. But I have to cut the inner pannel of the door to installs one.but if you have a good head unit,go for a decent two speakers and a small sub.good for u to go for a slim sub becoz it's a small car.keep this in mind.DONT GO FOR CHINESE CRAP. GOOD LUCK
  6. i've driven the aqua.here are the pros and cons pros -easy to drive -smooth in low speeds (better than vezel) -fuel economy cons -lack of options -bumpy ride -hard seats -less space -poor interior -not much power (just performs like an ordinary toyota 1500cc engine) i hope the honda would be better, but i'm yet to drive one.but one of my friend owns both fit gp5 and prius zvw30 claims that he gets lower than 20kmpl.according to him the acceleration is better than the prius but not so stable in high speeds as the prius.he said that the gp5 comes forward surpassing the prius only in the performance side.i've driven the zvw30 and i say that if you are going for a hybrid it's the best around your budget.i think if you can get a used 2010 or 2011 model you will not dissapoint.
  7. thank u for your fast replies.so i will stick to 175/70r14....thanks everybody
  8. hey guys.... i just found this sticker on the driver's side inner door panel.i know it says something about the tire sizes.but anyway i don't know what it exactly says.i'm currently running all 4 tires 175/70R14.front is nankang comfort and rear is gt champiro..i know both brands sucks and it is time to change the rear ones.so i have these doubts about this sticker. -does it says that front tires should be 175/70R14 84S and rear tiers should be 185/70R14 88S ? -or does it says that all tires should be 175/70R14 84S or either 185/70R14 88S ? -when i visited the tire store they said that i could go for Continental 185/70R14 (Malaysian Made) for Rs.10800.(btw here in kegalle we don't have a vast selection of brands)is it good to go for? please share ur ideas.
  9. thanx for ur rplies guys....anyway what about maxxis?what about the current tires i'm using at the front ;Nankang NK Comfort.....
  10. Mostly kegalle to kandy....btw the whole kandy-colombo road is patched (what i meant as patches are the layers of tarmac put on the cracks).
  11. Hello Everybody, I noticed that the road noise level in the cabin of my Corolla 121 is pretty higher. When doing over 80 it is a bit harder to tolerate.i replaced shock absorbers with KYB but no notable difference.from the front seat i can hear the noise is coming from the rear and when i travelled on the backseat for testing noted that the noise level is very high than sitting in the front when cruising over 80.currently i have Nankang NK Comfort 175/70 R14 in the front and GT Radial Champiro 175/70 R14 in the rear.Anyway rear tires have worn a bit now and i noted that rear tires should be 185/70 R14.When travelling on the road and the car goes over the patches (kandy-colombo road) the noise decreases suddenly from a huge amount.I just compared with a swift and though it's a hatch i noted the road noise is pretty lower than mines. And the swift was on dunlops as i remember. What is the problem for this? What should i do?I am waiting for your advices. Thank You
  12. And of course most hybrids like aqua, axio, insight etc engines are noisy as hell.specially the insight and freed sound like a sewing machine to me...
  13. Recently one of my dad's friends moved from 121 to axio hybrid.according to the car's calculation, best mileage is 17.3kmpl.and he is using it for abt nearly 8 months.what i see in him after moving to a hybrid is that he is proud of owning a car that bears the emblem 'hybrid' and he never let me drive it.IMO i think 90% out of hybrid users have moved to a hybrid for the trend.the word 'hybrid' has now become a fashion like,'arpico hybrid wathura tankiya'.people who cannot afford a hybrid car can be satisfied by buying a water tank labelled hybrid.
  14. today i replaced all the 4 shocks with kyb and brought from taas.costed me 35k for the shocks.also i had to change the bushes and the covers.all together costed me 40k.i'm yet to experience the ride.shocks are gas ones.and the genuine ones are completely worn out......will share my new experience as soon as possible...thank you guys for your advices.................
  15. thnx for your replies.anyway mine is a jdm, yom 2000 g grade one.does anybody know that what is the exact type of shock absorbers(hydraulic or gas) do i have to replace?????
  16. hello everybody, the shock absorbers of my corolla 121 seems to be replaced.all four.so i called toyota and the quoted me rs.100000 for the all four.(60k for the front 2 and 40k for the rear two.)seems they are extremely overpriced.so i decided to go for something like kyb.so i have these doubts. -what is the best option that i can go for????(not the genuine toyotas) -would the replacement of kyb makes any difference other than the price??? -i heard kyb's are pretty bumpy.is it true??? -in kyb are there any options that are more comfort oriented??? -if i change the shocks, what are the other components that i have to change related to the suspension system thank you
  17. hello everybody okay,i just dumped the idea of going for a navara. The civic hybrid seems like a fine option for my price range.anyway i have few doubts regarding the car. -do i have to change the hybrid battery in a very short time period??? -do i have to face any extra ordinary maintainence?? -how is the maintainence cost?? -is it more comfy than my current 121??? -does the low ground clearance (121 is 16cm and civic is 15cm) make huge limitations???? -fuel economy -interior space compared to my corolla -performance(compared to the corolla as civic holds a 1.3) -build quality(not so important) what i have to say is i've never driven a civic hybrid.have driven the insight, but feels a bit bumpy.anyway i am a little bit curious of going for a hybrid.i know if i buy one i have to update the system software if it is made before 2009.what i'm worried about is the ground clearance and the comfort as i've never driven one.so i need a good description.thanx......
  18. i didn't get much information regarding the maintainence and the common problems
  19. hello guys, i've been using my car for about 3 years and now i plan to sell it and go for a double cab due to the high ground clearance.also had an idea for a civic hybrid fd3,but the ground clearance........extremely low.So nissan navara is the one which falls in my category in terms of price.also had an idea for a x-trail and rav4.but they're petrol. what i need to know about the nissan navara, -maintainence cost -common faults -why it's cheaper than the l200 and the hilux -fuel economy -is it worthwhile trading my 121 and go for a navara???? i found a complete description about the dpf maintainence in AL and was very helpful.any opinion (specially owners') would be useful...thanks
  20. Thank u everyone who replied.those information are vry useful.
  21. Hi everyone, i usually purchase small items, such as bulbs, headsets and wrist watches from ebay.but i want to buy an illuminated scuff plate set for my car.since these are large sized items ,do i need to pay taxes?or will they arrive to sl safely?or do i have to visit colombo to collect them?plz let me knw abt the method to recieve them safely.thank u.
  22. Hi everybody. I'm planning to move on to a new vehicle.i like to own a navara, but many people say it's harder to maintain.is it true?i would like to knw abt these, -common problems -fuel economy -maintainence cost -is it worth to trade my 121 and go for a navara? Thank u.
  23. Hello Everybody, Wishing u all a very happy new year. Where can I found these tweeters which comes for corolla 121,on the doors?????
