  1. yes, did it few years back. Make sure to ship it without the box if possible stating that its been used, so you could avoid or reduce the tax.

In my case, I went to the central mail exchange in Colombo 2 and paid a very little fee ( Less than Rs 1000 as I remember) and got it cleared.

In case if you are using Fedex, they will clear the tax for you and deliver it to your door.

  3. I would like to know on couple of points regarding using and maintaining a Range Rover 2015 – 2020 model year.

    1.     How is the agent extended warranty coverage? I believe this can be extended up to 7 or 8 years.  (SML FRONTIER).  Is this like a bumper to bumper warranty where everything is included? ( Excluding ofcource accidents etc)

    2.     Apart from the agents, can the independent places take care of common faults or should expect a delayed response as parts to be ordered from UK so on and so forth? Nowadays RR’s are being so common, is this issue still bad as before?

    3.     Anyone has used the P400e version?  How does it compare with the SDV6? On paper, P400 seems more powerful, but how would it perform on real world and how does the 2L engine compare to the 3L V6 in terms of reliability?

    4.     Some say, RR Sport is more prone to issues than the big RR.  Any truth behind this? Both uses the same engine and drivetrain.

Really would like some feedback on this.

    Hi,

I would be very thankful if anyone could shed some light on how factory fitted omnidirectional camera systems are wired into car AV unit. any guide, wiring diagram, flow charts or any bit of information is greatly appreciated.

Trying to troubleshoot an issue with Suzuki factory fitted ;) omnidirectional camera system.

    Thanks,

    -GBB-

You could try searching on AliExp....

Search with vehicle make & model so the camera systems may show the wiring diagram / installation instructions which may be similar to the OEM version.  May be you could at least get an idea.

Hmm... so definitely something to be checked i guess.

@JayZ any places you would recommend to do a check up other than Kia?

18-20L/100km is definitely something needs checking.

As mentioned before start with Air filter. Once I found out Kia agent didn't replace the Air filter at the service but charged for it. So until you open up the box and check for ur self don't take the bill as proof.

I haven't done any tune ups yet, only regular maintenance. And mine is the 2WD version. Not the AWD. So it may save a bit too on fuel, but not by a huge margin.

There is a famous place in Pannipitiya - Malabe road who does Korean and Euro services, specially Land Rovers. Used to take my previous Rexton there, service is not bad. They do Kia Services too.

Good afternoon or morning according to the time you receive this email I would like to find out what the problem with my car. Firstly the problem facing my car is that it takes time for the car to drive forward, if I charge my car for half an hour before going it picks up very fast but if you start the engine and leave for ten minutes to drive forward it take very long unless I reverse it then move it forward, but it still takes time to move forward.

Are you driving an electric vehicle?

If so it is different from a traditional gear box. Let us know the make / model as mentioned previously.

I too used a 2010 Sorento and took it to the agents in Malabe for a transmission oil change (100,000km), cos almost all experts and people spoken to says that it’s a necessity to be serviced by the agents due to many complications.

After inspection, agents quoted 450K for the above, plus many other replacements as “preventive measures” and a full service. Gave me a heartache but agreed to go ahead as I was planning to use the vehicle for 2 more years. Final bill 350K+. Did not feel any difference in performance.

Long story short….My BIL with a Sorento(2012) did similar service with a few replacements and a regular service with a garage in Yakkala. Cost him only 75K with no hiccups. 20,000 kilometres after, he is still laughing at me. Here I’m, 250K short.

I presume this “preventive maintenance” is like one of their hoodwink strategies.

Embarrassed, I sold it one year later….

FYI… the Sorento has had the best pulling power compared to many other SUVs I have driven. Overtaking is a pleasure, even on hilly roads.

Thats the agents :),  I drive a 2014 model and currently 65K on the clock.

During the last service, agents gave a heads up on the bushes as a preventive maintenance advice.  But I don't feel any issue with the drive even at 100+ kmph.   Seems like they are trying to make a quick buck here.  Better get an inspection from a 3rd party also before committing to a major service.

At least could prioritize what needs attention first.

  8. KIA agent takes longer to do it because there is a queue and lot of procedures.

I checked from a place close to pannipitiya (Malabe road) who does Korian and Land Rover vehicle maintenance and they quoted approx 65k for the transmission oil change last year.

Thank you for the concern bro. Considering the current market prices ill end up with a vitz or a chinese MG for this budget. I feel driving a 10 year old rexton or a sorento will be better considering the comfort and simply the looks of it.

As I said before, the post 2010 Rexton with 2.8 engine is a solid choice, even with 250k KMS did not felt any engine issues at all. The 2010+ models which came with the 2.0 engine felt under powered and engine is much stressed out compared to the older version, also given the weight of the vehicle. (I did test drove some of them those days just to compare)

But yes, most of the 1st permit owners have sold them by now and most have done mileage.

I'd take a 2012 Sorento any day than the new MG.

  10. Have used a Rexton 2008 model for 8 years and 250K+  KMS. Didn't had any issues apart from regular maintenance.

But this is somewhat old now, good news is these are mostly brought for permits and still the 1st owners are selling them off for upgrade, but if you could bag a low mileage unit, it will be a solid choice. And you will be able to get one around 4 Mil mark where you could save some buck.

Currently using a KIA Sorento Diesel 2014 model and 65+ KMS, again no issues.   the Sorento 2010 -2012 models are not very much different underneath apart from the cosmetic differences.

Ride quality wise, Sorento is somewhat comfortable than the Rexton, but nothing to brag about.

Hyundai Santafe is not much different from the Sorento but less popular in SL due to higher purchase cost brand new, majority went with the Sorento.

  11. Can you not reduce the damage done by the salt water if you immediately wash the undercarriage with fresh water thoroughly?

Also, the under carriage coating does not prevent salt water penetration up to some point?

Saw a video some time back where some vehicles get caught to mild sea tide which comes on to main road, somewhere along Galle road.

Like I always say, most of our buggers have more money than brains!

The crawl control would have been able to dig it out itself, but it seemed to be getting worse because of rising tide.

Had a video of over 200 people watching closeby.

In the video the vehicle is covered halfway in water.

    Pure aiyoo salli moment!

Most likely would have traveled to the moon and back

These cars were used as cabs/ rented cars and by people who did long distances.

Well not all, a office chap sold his 2013 Prius for peanuts a month back with less than 80k mileage. He got it personally through auction so mileage is not tampered. There may be options if you take time to look. And cab services hunt down the Prius cz its reliable and economical and relatively trouble free car.
