Isnt Sikkens paint better than Debeer paint? Most workshops in SL seem to be promoting Debeer

@TheFlyingFox Did it come out fine? I have heard that sometimes the paint could start getting bubbles and ripples all over.

Anyone else is in love with the new Jimny?

@Magnum Great news! I should dig into this further since there is a 660CC
-
@tiv Yeah true, just like the Copens and S660s. Of course the Jimny is a bit better

Anyone else gets questioned why you buy keep buying car parts? non car people simply dont get it
-
Has anyone taken out a factory fitted tweeter? Do they come with a cross over?

Vezel starts getting gearbox issues due to the DCT system going bonkers when you continuously creep in traffic with your foot on the brake pedals yeah? What if you switch it into sport mode and lock the transmission in 1st gear when you are driving in heavy traffic?
-
Yup.That’s the only way.I have seen most people have recomended this. One of my friend owns one and he replaced the clutches at 100k kms for 2 lakhs. Also change the clutch oil at every service.I also thoroughly searched for this issue, since I was going to buy an Axio Luxel from one of my father’s friends, and he planned to go for a Vezel. So I have to made up my mind for a Premio or Allion since almost all had told him about this replacement?

How do some members in the forum figure whether vehicle requires 92 or 95 octane based on the compression ratio?
- Show previous comments 7 more

Actually Premium/HighOku ranges from 95 till 98 (ish). Depending on the fuel manufacturer. Nowadays the common premium is 98 except for a few budget brands which are 95ish. Then some manufacturers do the whole "special additive" marketing which in some cases would increase the octane value as well (as some were octane boosters).100 is still reserved as Ultra Premium (which previously/used to range from 98 upwards) and actually not that widely available even with the larger brands. But the notion is that things are going to stagnate at these octane levels for now as most manufacturers are on a frenzy to put on hydrogen stations because of the deadline.
So depending on the car (its period to be more specific) even 95 as "premium" would suffice.

@tiv what sort of compression ratio is considered as high compression ratio?

Used our car for couple of days, now I totally understand why people use those heat shield tints on car windscreens. There's much more heat and light entering into cars than it does in vans

I recently came across an electrician meddling with a vehicle's side mirrors
When the mirrors were retracted, it failed to stop at the normal position, instead the left side mirror kept moving towards the front of the vehicle.
The electrician mentioned that the mirrors have 'gone out of timing'
Apparently this happens if the mirrors get knocked or bumped into. He folded/unfolded the mirror which had the problem using his hands couple of times and the issue was sorted out

@iRage what's RFP?
In this case the electronic system had got confused or something as it was going forward smoothly without a fuss but when you operate the mirror with your hands you can hear the locking mechanism working
-
@iRage Yes you can, but what I meant was that this specific mirror I have mentioned in the status had got knocked somehow and when unfolded with the switch it behaved as if there wasn't any lock. When retracted it went all the way front smoothly but when the mirror was folded with hands the lock made a clicking noise at the normal stopping position.
The electrician explained that circuit had got confused where the normal stopping position hence it had unfolded all the way towards the front.Considering his explanation, I assume when a mirror normally unfolds, the locks are unlocked until the mirror is unfolded to the correct position where it stops and the locking mechanism locks it there in place.

Came across a Daihatsu Copen, got into it and checked it out. I absolutely love it!

Yep its pretty dope! You sit very low in it and the passenger side door is only an arms length away, although I didnt drive it, I could tell it would be fun to drive.
The one I checked out had a price of around 4 million which is a fair bit of investment when there are other alternatives which offer more.
Practicality wise, the boot isn't that small, I was told that we could use the space where the roof goes into if we leave the roof closed, but everything will have to go in the boot as you don't have much space upfront if you got a passenger.
I didnt check it out with the idea of buying it, rather I just came across it but yes it's very tempting

Guys my wipers create a mist like layer every time they wipe. They are original Toyota wipers which I got from Japan about a year and half ago. The blades dont seem like they are worn out.

@terrabytetango got this from Laugfs in 2017.
-
What on earth are original wiper blades from Japan ? Japan Toyota does not sell wiper blades..they have an OEM brand and they put a Toyota sticker on it...so most of the time you get better after market ones than what you get at the Toyota dealer.
Could be that the wipers got some kind of stuff on it ? Like an oily cleaner or something you might have wiped it with ? Also sometimes the wiper rubber has some protective fluid on it which needs sometime to wear off.
How clean is your windshield ? Some glass cleaners the service stations use leave a sucky residue.
Could be some kind of water repellent that you put on the windshield as well. When you spray water on the windshield does the water bead like a waxed car body ?
-
@iRage bought it from Toyota dealer.
I added some windscreen washer fluid and gave the wipers a good clean up. I think the issue is sorted now. Havent yet had an opportunity to drive it in heavy rain.

So I see Defenders advertised as 2012, 2014, 2015 and so on but they carry old registration numbers such as 32- or 65-.
How is that possible?

Experienced the perks of having Conti tyres during emergency braking ?

Why do some people overstate the fuel economy figures when advertising a car?
Some figures are so off to the extent you start doubting whether it would be a safe purchase.

When I took my CHR to the hospital for the first time, almost all the doctors were asking "malli, oke thel keeyak karanawada?"
Nobody bothered to ask "how is the handling? how is the power, comfort? What are the new features?"
Typical Sri Lankan mentality. It's almost like the number of kilometers per litre a vehicle does decides its market value.
-
@sathyajithj99 There was a poll on FB regarding the most important feature when purchasing a vehicle, the highest vote was for fuel economy
-
I wrote this on one of the threads as well..fuel economy is so high in importance in SL because 90% of the people buy cars that they cannot afford. So when they spend a lot of their income on paying the lease..they hardly have any money left for living life. Even if the companies give a vehicle allowance the fact still applies. So they want to spend as little as possible on fuel and maintenance
Then the another dimension is that we Sri Lankans LOVE a bargain. At a bargain we would even buy a heap of dog $h**. So exaggerated fuel figures are away of showing off what a bargain you are getting. In the same line....we measure human by the what we have rather than who we are. As such we always yearn to have the shinier, larger, newer car than what you always have. When you can't afford to get that....then exaggerated fuel figures become the justification for them to why they are using the car they already have.

@terrabytetango It has tiptronic and the gearbox is very responsive to accelerator inputs

Not sure if I should stick to original Toyota oil filter or go for VIC oil filter.
- Show previous comments 1 more
-
Well...if you were in Japan...there is no such thing called a Toyota oil filter....they put OEM ones The box will have a Toyota part sticker on it I believe a genuine VIC filter would be as good as the "Genuine Toyota" oil filters in SL, which 99% of the time come from Thailand, Indonesia, etc..anyway....There have been cases where people had cut off the VIC filters and they have ended up being far better than the "Genuine Toyota Filter"...
Just don't go for the fake Chinese crap that has boxes and logos that look exactly like the actual VIC...or fake VICs.

@tiv Ah yep the Every Wagons make me drool
I also love the Spacia Custom and N-Box Custom, they seem to be loaded with goodies

Could you tell me right quick what would be a better motor for my Hiace, a Gallo 12 or a Gallo 24?

@tiv I think the van you are referring to is owned by one of my friend

Assume there's two imaginary engines.
One is a 2.0L engine producing 150bhp at 5500rpm and 200nm of torque at 4500rpm.
The other engine is a 2.5L producing 150bhp at 3500rpm and 200nm of torque at 2500rpm
Given the fact everything else is identical which engine would perform better in a race track scenario?
I understand the 2.0L would perform better in day to day driving on normal roads.

Thinking of getting a subwoofer down from Japan via the Ceylon shipping lines. Bad idea?
-
Imagine the following situations:
You come across another vehicle
1.which has misaligned lights (HID/LED) and it's making you difficult to see the road.
2. Which has one headlight on high beam at all times even when the other one is switched to low beam
3. Which doesn't turn off the high beam.
What would you do in these situations?
A. Flash your high beam once and switch back to low beam immediately
B. Turn on your high beams as well

You guys saw the posts on Facebook regarding the stickers and some other modifications on a bus being ordered to be removed? I feel kind of bad for the owner
-
Its not really what cops figure out or not, is the question. The bottom line is, those modifications are illegal and the courts made the ruling according to the prevailing law. True that selective justice is the system that exists in the country but selective justice is still better than no justice at all.

How much is Adblue in SL?
- Show previous comments 4 more
-
I see so it's no big deal. Btw the DPF issue seems to be more in the ones with DPF regeneration button than the ones with auto DPF regeneration. Atleast that's how it is in Hiace. From 2013 onwards Hiace came with a button for DPF regeneration and they seem to be getting clogged easily.
Euro 6 also has DPF. Does the adblue reduce the chance of it getting clogged?
-
sorry I meant the NOx storage catalyst is replaced by the SCR-adblue system. Particulates still need to be taken care of by DPF. It is the only way to fulfill Euro6 emissions norm. But you have an advantage that fewer or no Lambda sensors are needed(also a part which fails prematurely) More information can be found from wikipedia German article https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selektive_katalytische_Reduktion "By a selective catalytic reduction nitrogen oxides are removed from the exhaust gas with a high efficiency. In contrast to the diesel particulate filter (DPF), there is no additional fuel consumption. This advantage also applies to the alternative method of reducing nitrogen oxides by means of a NO x storage catalyst which, like the DPF, requires a temporary avoidance of optimum combustion conditions. The installation of an SCR NOx reduction system makes it possible to operate the engine at more fuel-efficient operating points. Consumption thus drops by between 3 and 8%, depending on the driving style."
