You guys remember Californican?
If he was around AL now he would be having a blast with all these hybrids and electric cars coming down to SL now

After a cut and polish is done, is it necessary to do a polish by hand? Or should we straight away go for a wax?
-
Anyone else gets questioned why you buy keep buying car parts? non car people simply dont get it

Anyone else is in love with the new Jimny?

@Magnum Great news! I should dig into this further since there is a 660CC
-
@tiv Yeah true, just like the Copens and S660s. Of course the Jimny is a bit better
-
Anyone else prefer to stick to JDM stuff for your vehicles as much as possible, even when buying accessories and upgrades? or is it just me?

@iRage Good to know I'm not the only one

@Uditha88 I think 800 is cheap, was it one bulb or a pair?
-
@Magnum one

Anyone else using Akebono brake pads?
Last time I installed Akebono pads at the front and FBK shoes at the back. Planning to get Akebono front and back
-
@tiv Brembo did but I think we need to replace the rotors to fix those. Dixcel has pads for Hiace, they are about 4k more than Akebono per pair. Might go with those

Apparently Australia has a FD2 which isn't a Type R, I thought all Type Rs were FD2

Assume there's two imaginary engines.
One is a 2.0L engine producing 150bhp at 5500rpm and 200nm of torque at 4500rpm.
The other engine is a 2.5L producing 150bhp at 3500rpm and 200nm of torque at 2500rpm
Given the fact everything else is identical which engine would perform better in a race track scenario?
I understand the 2.0L would perform better in day to day driving on normal roads.

Bit of advice for those of who like me who purchase quite often online.
Recently I bought a head unit and an amp( two seperate orders from a Sydney based store). The head unit arrived in less than a week with no problem so went ahead and made another order for an amp. 1 month went by but I didnt receive the amp so I tried calling them and their phone wasnt working due to COVID 19, when I contacted them through FB they told stocks are coming in 2 weeks so I gave it another month but no delivery. Just like that 4 months went by and I got really desperate so I did some digging and found out that I wasn't the only one who got caught up with this store so i repeatedly e-mailed them but still no response. Luckily I had made this purchase through PayPal so I opened up a case and got my money back within a month. What I learnt from this is that always try to purchase stuff of eBay, Amazon or even Aliexpress because if you dont get your stuff they will get your money back without an issue and if you are purchasing directly from the store's own website then make sure they got PayPal.- Show previous comments 1 more

@Hyaenidae I have purchased from Amayama, they are ideal for genuine parts
@fiat fan I think my bank card has that, but I thought of getting the bank involved as a last option

Did any of the new Jimny come down to SL? I havent yet seen one on the quick site
-
Does the Honda Grace also have the DCT issue? So far I haven't heard any issue regarding the Grace, one guy told me the problem is only with Vezel and FIT but doesn't the Grace also share the same gearbox?

Two possible reasons
1. The one Sathyajith mentioned
2. The fact that graces started flowing into SL later. So :
(a) They haven't still been abused as much as the other two models - might see more graces have issues later(b) By the time the grace became mainstream already Vezels and Fits started giving trouble so awareness on DCT was there and users took extra care
(c) Due to the tax change during the period when Grace was just starting to get popular there are lot less Graces than fits or vezels
-
Fun fact: Car guys have senses in their ass, when they sit in a car they can give report on some of the issues with your car
-
Go to the Wagon R club Facebook group and look for a ‘meet up’ video
Thank me later!

Got Dirt Rally 2 for free on PSN, I'm impressed with the game...

Has anyone here played either DriveClub or Project Cars 2?

If you want to let go of realistic physics & enjoy modding & adrenaline chases for a while, obviously NFS. If you are still hooked for a highly realistic driving experience with beautiful graphics, P-cars 2.
Played NFS Payback last week on PS4 and it has an okay story. Although if possible, go for NFS Heat, it rocks! Car laundering cops, Car customization & character customizations are endless, graphics are fab & a wide variety of car choices, from MX5s, Skylines & EK9 to exotics & classics.
-
Agree with what @□AVANTE□ said. The last NFS I played was NFS Most Wanted. Lost interest in the game after that because handling and physics was becoming too arcade-like. I'm more into simulation, and I play a lot of Rally Games.
The best Rally game that came out recently IMO is Dirt Rally 2.0. It's an absolute masterpiece when it comes to physics, handling, car tuning and most importantly, breathtaking stages. The original Dirt Rally had it's quirks and really difficult to play (reminds me of Richard Burns Rally - so much realism). But Dirt Rally 2.0 is so much better. You really need a good steering wheel setup to play it though.
Make sure you watch this on 1080p @ 60fps
-
@Davy Dirt Rally is neat. Tried it briefly yet I loved it and even follow the subreddit.
I have a Logitech F710 controller and still play the 2012 Most wanted just for crusing around at legal speeds and suddenly tipping off the police (Sike!). Real life is already too real, would like to have some fun in the digital fantasy atleast

Has anyone taken out a factory fitted tweeter? Do they come with a cross over?

How do some members in the forum figure whether vehicle requires 92 or 95 octane based on the compression ratio?
- Show previous comments 7 more

Actually Premium/HighOku ranges from 95 till 98 (ish). Depending on the fuel manufacturer. Nowadays the common premium is 98 except for a few budget brands which are 95ish. Then some manufacturers do the whole "special additive" marketing which in some cases would increase the octane value as well (as some were octane boosters).100 is still reserved as Ultra Premium (which previously/used to range from 98 upwards) and actually not that widely available even with the larger brands. But the notion is that things are going to stagnate at these octane levels for now as most manufacturers are on a frenzy to put on hydrogen stations because of the deadline.
So depending on the car (its period to be more specific) even 95 as "premium" would suffice.

@tiv what sort of compression ratio is considered as high compression ratio?

I don't understand people who fix Lexus emblems on a Altezza. Wasn't the Altezza a better car in most ways compared to the IS?

The Lexus got more creature comforts but the Altezza was not too far behind. The differences were mainly there because of market preferences/practicality. And yes...where performance variants were concerned the Altezza was handed out with far more offerings than the Lexus.
At the end of the day..none of these badges matter. In SL it is all about the letters on the number plate....if it is not a new lettered number plate...doesn't matter whether you are driving a million dollar Jag from the 90s...you are driving an old car (usually the reason is because you are having trouble in your career that you cannot afford a three digit Premio/Allion or a Land Cruzar Parado.
-
Not sure about creature comforts but the Altezza was a better car in terms of performance.
The 3SGE on the Altezza was lighter compared to the 2JZ on the IS300, as the 3SGE was 4 cylinder the engine sat further behind giving the car a better weight distribution, Altezza had a six seed manual option and the 3SGE has heaps of aftermarket mods in Japan. Altezza also received some aero options. -
Like I said..the Altezza was handed out with far more performance offerings. As for the 3S-GE....to be honest...I like the less strained smoothness of the 2JZ. The 3S-GE at the end of the day just feels strained and not very smooth. Not that it is a bad engine..just that the 2JZ is a much smoother engine to drive. the 4 vs 6 cylinder running makes a difference.

I drove a BMW E90 325i, I got to say it feels great to drive, but the interior and the comfort levels arent really up to the standard of a premium car

@Magnum "sheer driving pleasure" & "ultimate driving machine"...reviews say the same can't be said for the new 7-series though

I guess our tax people haven't yet realised yet that car manufacturers are downsizing the engines and turbo charging them.
They seem to focusing on engine capacity based tax rates
-
I just realized that adults are on 4X2 mode while toddlers are on 4X4, hence toddlers have better traction
-
Almost all of them start having problems with their 4X4 systems within about 2 years and switch to 4X2... after that the 4X4 system only works intermittently as @tiv has mentioned. goes to show how unreliable 4X4 systems are.

I recently came across an electrician meddling with a vehicle's side mirrors
When the mirrors were retracted, it failed to stop at the normal position, instead the left side mirror kept moving towards the front of the vehicle.
The electrician mentioned that the mirrors have 'gone out of timing'
Apparently this happens if the mirrors get knocked or bumped into. He folded/unfolded the mirror which had the problem using his hands couple of times and the issue was sorted out

@iRage what's RFP?
In this case the electronic system had got confused or something as it was going forward smoothly without a fuss but when you operate the mirror with your hands you can hear the locking mechanism working
-
@iRage Yes you can, but what I meant was that this specific mirror I have mentioned in the status had got knocked somehow and when unfolded with the switch it behaved as if there wasn't any lock. When retracted it went all the way front smoothly but when the mirror was folded with hands the lock made a clicking noise at the normal stopping position.
The electrician explained that circuit had got confused where the normal stopping position hence it had unfolded all the way towards the front.Considering his explanation, I assume when a mirror normally unfolds, the locks are unlocked until the mirror is unfolded to the correct position where it stops and the locking mechanism locks it there in place.

I wasn’t aware that we had EG and EK hatchbacks in SL ?
where were they hiding?

They dont understand what we get here, cuz they only get a handful good stuff from Japan. I have met few of them, , their car culture is different.
For example there was one guy who strongly claimed 4Runner(which is basically a gasoline Hilux Surf with fewer options) is better than the Hilux. For them off-roading in a gasoline vehicle is normal, where as most other countries prefer diesel SUVs and Utes for off roading.
