Thoughts on the third gen CRV? if im not wrong the JDM version was only available with a 2.4L engine. Are the 2.0L models agent imports?

Dad had a RE4 (third gen AWD) which he sold off for when mom's RAV4 in Japan was brought down. He regrets selling it off
The RE4 was very comfortable and the interior was very plush compared to the RAV4 and XTrail. Felt a bit heavy on the hand (RAV4 feels lighter and nimbler). The only thing I did not like about it was the gearbox with its fancy slope control dual shift thing-a-magic; took a bit of getting used to on how to work with the gearbox.
Fuel economy wise it was pretty much towards the upper end of the spectrum in relation to the RAV4...more closer to 8ish (roughly dad's monthly running includes about 75% city driving towards the tail end of rush hour traffic and 25% driving outstation to Sigiriya). He also had a RD4 before the RE and the RD got about 6-7 (just as the RAV4), but the RE was a lot top heavier than both the RE and the RAV4 (also for some reason the rubber door handles just broke off over time like a dog had chewed it).
Yes..the JDM variant came only with the K24A 2.4L engine. The K24A engine was first tried out on the2nd generation facelifted CRV (RD7/6) with some minor updates and putting out a bit more power (150 or something vs 170?)
The 2.0L variants are export variants. I believe most were sold brand new by the agents. Most of the 2.0L variants from the agents seem to be FWD variants. Whilst the 2.0L AWD was also sold by them it seems like they also offered the 2.4L AWD (after some time ?). I have seen some imports from UK and Australia as well.

@iRage 8ish is a decent figure for city running, is there a significant difference between the K24A and K24Z? Based on the fuel figures you have mentioned, there seems to have been an improvement.
Also I noticed that only the JDM models seem to be available with Alcantra seats while the export variants were offered with leather seats. -
Oh, the 8ish is what he averaged in a month/cycle which included 75% city driving. And his city driving was not in the thick of rush hour traffic. But both he and I do tend to get heavy footed.
No idea about the changes.
Yes, even to this date most JDM cars have alcantra whilst the export variants have actual leather because Japanese people do not get the whole leather thing
