The LED interior lights go well with the exterior because there isnt a single filament bulb in the car, plus that fancy front map lights is available only as LED.
Haha I must have been talking about that pink Crown because it's a special edition. Theres one for sale in Australia too, the ad has been up for a long time.

There is a HKS one as well as a TOM's one. The TOM's one is what Toyota put in
I have seen some pics of Crown's with TOM's emblem, didnt really look into it in detail
-
It has 63NM of torque more than the 3GR but it makes its peak torque at a higher rpm. There seems to be a supercharger from HKS is that the one you are referring to?

Nice....
About the Crown....around the 90s when the Crown went wide body....Toyota pushed the Crown to be a range of large sedan/estate cars; so the Crown was a family of different cars. Under this range, you got the Athlete, Royal Saloon, Majesta, Crown Sedan, Comfort, etc.... So Royal Saloon and Athlete were not necessarily a trim level but a variant (like you said, Allion and Premio are different variants of the same car but not different Trim levels).
The series of Crown you have (S180 series) is called the Crown Zero. It is called so because after many years of simply refreshing previous platforms; the 180 series got a complete ground up redesign and for the most part believed to have gone back to the core essence of what the Crown was...a large (mid-sized) executive sedan. Some of the features you talk about are there because it was designed to be a car to be driven in (thus the front seat controls for the rear passenger; front headrests that fall down, etc...).
Yes, the Royal Saloon is a very soft ride compared to the Athlete which has stiffer suspension. However, it still does not offer 5 series or E class like handling tightness. It is very Japanese in its ride..leisurely After driving your variant, you will hate being in a 4GR variant. It is pretty good but you feel the engine slightly strained.
So....have you looked in to what it would take to Supercharge it ?
My bad I worded that wrong, yes they are two different, Toyota even lists them as two different models, Crown Royal and Crown Athlete.
Interesting, I came across the term Crown Zero, I thought it was a special edition of the 180 series or something
Yes you're right leisurely is the ideal word, for example it has tiptronic but you dont even feel the gears changing, its like changing gears in a video game. I assume the tiptronic is designed to limit the car to a certain gear. You're better off just leaving it in D at most times.
Haven't driven a 4GR variant of Crown, but the 3GR-FSE has plenty of power, it sprints 0-100 in around 6 seconds which is pretty impressive for a car thats 16 years old and weighs around 1600kg.
I assume you are referring to the supercharger which came on the Mark X? If I need more power I would most likely settle for a GRS184 with the 2GR, but so far the 182 seems to be an ideal blend of power and fuel economy for Aussie roads.

1st time I’m seeing it! Super cool. Do the germans have this? Also haven’t seen it on any new lexus models.
Not sure about Germans, this feature was there in Crown since the 80s.
There are little quirky features too like the front passenger could be adjusted from the rear seats, there are buttons on the right had side of the front passenger seat, You can see those buttons on this pic
Theres also a button inside the glove box to lock the trunk. Apparently this button is there to keep the luggage in the boot safe when handing over the car to valet parking.

Absolutely and categorically NO !
The RAV4, X-Trail and Harrier weight difference between the AWD and FF variants is within the 40-60kg range. NOT as high as you say it is. The most significatn contributor to that weight is actually grade and AWD specific accessories. So whilst people say the AWD variant is more fuel hungry than the 2WD variants of these vehicles...it really is not so....In Japan a friend of mine had a 2WD RAV4 of the same thing I had....on long road trips we both ran out of petrol around the same time and we both pumped about the same amount of fuel each stop. I remember we crossover kids were hanging out and the AWD guys' vehicles were doing only about .5 - 1 kmpl less than what the 2WD kids were getting. Mind you this was a good 8 or so years ago when engine efficiency was not as good as it is now a days.
but yes...the the Hiace AWD and FR variants have about 110kg in weight difference. I thought vans would be lesser because it already has a full rear diff and prop shaft and needed only transfer case, center diff and front axels....
yeah my bad! I just checked it on car directory weight difference in a Rav4 is around 40-60kg. I assume the weight difference on a Hiace is bigger due to the difference in the AWD system.

I'm not sure in gbp, but locally the price was the same as the 2wd, its horrendous on fuel btw
Well the 4WD Vitara weighs 75kg more than the 2WD version(full option). For some vehicles like the RAV4 the weight difference is around 150kg, while for the Hiace it’s 100kg.
The fuel economy would be expected by how the 4WD system works as well
You have said you get a fuel economy of around 10km/l. How much could we expect from the 2WD version?

Well I asked the fellow who placed the order, he sent the possible combinations For engine transmission and drivetrain,he said it is only offered in the SZT and SZ5, and the tuning is also different between the 4 models, hence the 4 columns
well according to him the 1.0 szt or sz5 with 4wd and auto transmission is a pricey combo equal or high in price to the 1.4 hence not popular and not offered mainstream,
our importers get 1.0 fully loaded ones on request it seems, there’s one in the famous classified site now, and a SZ5 as well.
for UK and Europe, we are stuck with the 1000cc due to the tax pattern, but there are some appealing options otherwise, will share for anyone who wants for future reference
FYI https://www.globalsuzuki.com/automobile/lineup/vitara/index.html
So most of the ones in SL are FWD? How much more is the 4WD with an auto box?
-
Sweet ride! I like the styling as well, it’s one of those few new vehicles without excessive lines and curves. Simple and elegant. However a small spoiler would look nice, something similar to what you get in Vezel.
Also it seems well worth the price.
I went through the Suzuki UK website, I couldn’t find a 4WD with Automatic transmission option for the SZT grade.

@Magnum today I got a chance to drive a KDH205(correct me if the code is wrong) which is 3000cc and fully loaded with climate control ac. I'm really impressed how this babe perform as a van!! I never thought that I would love to drive a van. But my mind totally changed after driving it. I totally agree with every detail you provided in the review. Really comfortable in long journeys. It's not comfortable as a car, but there is a totally different way how a Hiace handles the potholes or bumps: It just gives a boat like feeling when hitting a pothole, softening the sudden impact. This is totally different from a Hilux. And man the engine is a devil on mountains. I did a few risky overtakes on a hilly road and this babe pulled like a demon. Really impressed how she performed as a van. Would really love to drive something like an Alphard.
What you must have driven is either a KDH201 or a KDH206 if its a flat roof. Yes the Hiace shines on hill climbs, you could overtake without any problems. This is what I meant as theres a perfect sync between the power band and gearing
9 minutes ago, kadsa98 said:A detailed write up! I have a few questions,
- What model is the 4wd one? 206?
- Is the 4wd version available with the petrol engine?
- what is your model called the Hiace 206 4wd? or a different name?
The narrow body Hiace came with full time 4WD under the model number KDH205(2500cc) and KDH206(3000cc). KDH205 was discontinued after 2007.
The 4WD is offered with petrol engine as well but its available only as wide body
Mine is known as Hiace LDF-KDH206

The reflection you get on the windscreen is caused by dashboard polish applied to the dashboard

Is it 13 speakers or 8 speakers?(I’m really interested in audio?)
It has loads of speakers, I wouldnt be surprised if it has 13 speakers (including tweeters)
Im more interested in knowing what kind of power those speakers are receiving and how they are wired/powered

I read the Cedia one and yes they are exceptional. Well I do read most of the things there actually and wish AL would also become such advanced forum someday. Thing is India being a large country with a substantial middle class such forum can attract so many valuable members. I even read PakW***ls forum.
I go through teamBHP as well, I found couple of Hiace threads on it as well

And also to keep a higher resale value when they sell it.
Probably. Btw tyres affect fuel economy, the earlier tyres I had use to give me bit better fuel economy, but it didn't have grip like the continental tyres

Yeah I was actually referring to ownership reviews of some members in the forum where they are good until you come to fuel consumption part. Not all are bad though. Their Youtube video reviews are great most of the time.
I don't understand the reason why people exaggerate fuel economy. It's probably because most people consider a successful car purchase as one that's highly economical.

Nice van.!
Is this used for passenger carrying purposes or home/personal use?
I know back in the day people used small Vans as family vehicles (even in a 3 person household) because they were cost efficient to buy due to low tax. Is it still the norm?
LiteAce/TownAce type small vans are not so popular these days isn't it?
This is for my personal use. There are people who is it for tourism purpose as well, I heard middle Eastern tourists prefer them.
LiteAce/TownAce is now called as Noah/Voxy/Esquire

So you cant choose the EX grade with fabric seats?
Personally I prefer fabric seats over leather seats. Leather seats may look better but comfort wise fabric seats are far better

Bad mentality of selling a used one to a novice user when it needs maintenance....??.
All it needs is simple basic maintenance but some people try to skip those as well. For example any turbo engine requires times services if not the old oil will damage the turbo unit.
