  1. Cooling issues are the cause for blown head gasket changing the gasket without attending the cooling issues wont fix the problem. If temp increases when stuck in traffic possible reason is the radiator fan is not kicking in properly ..may be a faulty thermostat. I would check Thermostat , Fans , Radiator (whether any blocks/leaks etc im not sure how effective is fixing the leaks work.. better replace with a after market one ), Check any oil sludges in coolant..if found your head gasket is blown replace the gasket
  2. Guys , I was able to check 2 vehicles, a 1998 Ce110 and a 96 pulsar..out of that the 110 is crap, couldn't even start the car and the owner (guess he is a car seller) claiming the battery is not good and finally was able to jump start with my vehicle. Not in a very good condition, recently painted, engine vibrates a bit. Not interested...can't buy a junk just because it has a Toyota badge The pulsar, I noted below things Interior is in good condition for the age of the car. The interior feels nice and simple when compared to 110.seats/upholstery are good Toolk around 2 - 2.5 sec to start.not an immediate start. Engine is smooth , owner claimed changed the mounts recently and did an overhaul. However felt vibration inside the car even in the passenger seat, steering is quite vibrating ( is it normal for diesel?) Recently pained - fishy but didn't find any accident repair. Squeaky noise when turning - issue with power steering belt I guess. Oil in coolent - concern, tappet cover including housing replaced recently. Slight white smoke when removing the engine oil cap -concern Broken hand break cable. AC is not that cool, should be repaired ,may be parts needed. How bad these issues are. Please advise.
  3. Thans @iRageand @matroska.. I'm bit inclined towards starlet since it's a hatchback. And if the performance is the only issue with this car I don't think that will make much difference since the car will be used for daily driving in city. I'm considering the pulsar too..likes the look. I feel the Bluebird and vista/carry are bit big for me. Not in to wagons already driving a oversized wagonish CRV Carinas are bit out of the budget seems like over 4Mn So when narrowing down I would stick to the below Starlet CE110 Pulsar
  4. Guys, I'm planning to buy a diesel car for daily travel since my employer is more accessible to diesel than petrol. That's the sole reason. Concern is my limited budget which is 3Mn so I have to settle for cars older than 20 yrs. What are reliable option among the below cars. I want a car with less trouble, If I need to waste time frequently at garages I would rather stay in petrol queues. 1.Starlet NP90 - I'm a fan of starlet since the day I got in to cars though I've never owned one. But heard the smaller diesel engines are not that reliable compared to the 2000 cc ones. 2.CE110 - A you won't go wrong car in SL context. 3.SB14 guess this the diesel version of FB14. Would be the last choice 4. Carina Diesel - bit rare. Would consider buying over CE110 I have been a Honda user since the 1st car. So have zero knowledge in toyota or Nissan variants and I want the members advice on the cons of buying a 20yr old diesel cars.
  5. FD 1 hands down..nice interior ..more than enough power for Sri Lankan roads...get a one with paddle shifters you will not be disappointed...I had a one for 5 years , was very easy to maintain ..maintained throughout the agent and at a reliable Stafford mechanic at Gampaha ... Hondas are love to rev and the FD1 with paddle shifters are peppy to drive..my only concern is you are only 18 ..drive responsibly
  6. this will lure the crooked exporters and undiyal people to bring down their residual forex to country. no proper exporter or expat will do this. The people looking forward to import vehicles and pay taxes in FCY are already offering their dollars at 240 - 245 rupees , that is almost 20% more than the quoted rate. There are no reasons for them to change the dollars at 200 rupees and price the vehicles at Rs. 200 per dollar instead they will convert the dollars at 200 but price the dollars at 240/245 when selling the vehicles. This might create negligible impact on forex inflow but not with reduction of the vehicle prices. Being in the financial industry I have already noted small - medium level crooked exporters and undiyal people have started to save their dollars in foreign countries anticipating to import vehicles with that money and sell it at huge margins. Theories works well only with educated genuine government and people. after all we have a crooked government with crooked people
  7. check radiator .. heating when driving at high speeds is due to blocked radiator/thermostat
  8. yes..there are few places in Darley Road where you can get this job done...do you have anymore opening in the car because the darlry road place might interested to install few propellers too...so you can fly... and with the cruise control installation your kmpl figures also going to improve..let us know about the figures once done.. bdw ..how did you get to know about this thing...only handful of people know this..but all are driving Axio Hybrid
  9. check wheel bearings...simple testing method is... jack up the car and rotate the tires you might hear kind of friction/grinding sound if the wheel bearing is bad..
  10. considering the other cars you get for this price bracket ..yes its worth it....I'm in to Hondas for past 12 years and using a FD1 for last 4 years..it was a 9 year old car when i bought ..still looks and runs good ..get a one before the ricer boys have their hands on them ..
  11. IRage..any difference in 3rd gen and 4th gen CR-V when it comes to the AWD..?
  12. Thanks Kush..I dont really need a 4WD and the guess CR-V is not a real 4WD vehicle...Need clarification whether the 4wd thing has anything to do with handling
  13. but Im looking for a 2014 model...so the vehicle is in the final year luxury tax bracket
  14. guys.. whats the practical difference in 4WD/AWD CR-V and 2WD CR-V ? im biased towards JDM models due to options they have and not finding a JDM model with 4WD/AWD...the agent imported ones are having basic spec (no push start, retract mirrors and cruise control)..
  15. If you are employed abroad personal loan on clean basis is big No No..due to the compliance ..but you can obtain loan against a property or vehicle as long as the loan will be serviced from the funds you remit through the NRFC Account..even leases are possible and for the bad credit history..you should be able to convince the bank it was genuine default and not a willful one..and its better that the specific advance is settled in full without any write off from the bank side or legal action..and if you have other facilities which reflects you are good paymaster you will have an edge when convincing the bank...bdw the credit history/CRIB only available for the past 24 month and most banks take last 12 months to asses the creditworthiness of the customer..
  16. guys, sorry to open up an old thread... looking buy a CR-V 2014 ish one..there were few advertised in quick site but couldnt get the info properly from the sellers..help me with the trim levels of the model as they come 2l and 2.4 l varient..
  17. sorry to hijack the thread..need suggestions for a SUV/4WD for some moderate off roading. with the same price bracket. Though I'm not going to finalize the purchase immediately I need some ideas to do some research. Fuel efficiency is not a concern at all but the vehicle will be used mostly during weekends. maintenance of is the key thing I'm focused should be easy to take care of. And with regard to the above suggested vehicles how they perform on moderate off road conditions??
  18. Lev is low emmision vehicle comes with non VTEC engine..Slightly low powered than the d15b VTEC .. Acceleration is better in VTEC..And ground clearance are same in all..Not that much an issue if you drive cautiously..If you want something economic and performing car..Get a manual VTEC..Best of both worlds
  19. Buddy, first ek3 is very different car from fit..Fit is designed for fuel efficiency but not that good in that though....If you want handling go for ek3..The McPherson struts never fail ..Fit is just a boring drive never qualify even to compare...And for mmt and manual..Both are peppy in acceleration..You don't feel you are driving an auto if it's a VTEC MMT..But lot of ek s are molested here in wrong hands..Hard to find a one in good shape...virs is comes with stiffed suspension , disk breaks and few cosmetic addition comparing to normal VTEC Ek3 ..Performance are pretty similar...And lastly vtecs deliver a decent fuel economy of 10-12 in all condition...

    Tyre Prices

Thanks for the feed back.. After a search of two weeks i have narrowed down my option to below tires.. Dunlop thailand for 19000 Bridgeston ep300 thailand for 18300 Got a deal for 215 55 R16 for the same price as 205 55 R16 for the same ep300 too. but my concern is those tires are LRR rated ones ..So will there be a compromise in grip?? Im thinking of going for the slightly wider tires (215) assuming those will provide better grip than 205 , correct if I'm wrong. Appreciate if any one can share their experience with ep300. Thanks
  21. VIRS conversion is a good idea but hardly the VIRS and and a manual Vi differ in performance .. Since both share the same motor with 130bhp. But VIRS come with different chassis and stiffed suspension ,all 4 disk breaks, abs and airbags together with few cosmetic modifications. As said in the previous reply save the money in FD and upgrade to a newer car in a while with improved safety features is a best option..Else try few mods like upgrading the breaks to disks and suspension to feel a difference in ride if you want put a nice set of wheels..But the performance should come with safety which I don't feel the 95 ek will deliver..I had a 95 Vi manual for 6 years and would say the ride was crisp through out the years but the there were some drawbacks when it come to safety which is ok for car that old. However if you are not in to track or drag I don't think spending too much in to performance will realy benefits.

    Tyre Prices

Guys , I'm in a search for new rubbers. Bit confused in selecting a good set of tires..Btw i was offered 205 60 R16 Yokohama japan tires for Rs.16000 each at a store in wattala. But my stock tires are 205 55 R16 . Will there be difference in ride when fixing a bigger tire than stock size??? I'm concerned about handling and comfort if the Yokohama tires don't work out thought of going for the below tires at the stock size Toyo japan 22k Goodyear assurance 18900 Michelin thailand 21950 Bridgeston thailand 18300 And if my budget shrinks maxxis or Hancook 15300
  23. ES1 is JDM and ES8 is export model, the ES5 is a singapore export model which has 1.6l is known to be little more fuel efficient than other models..
  24. First 2 questions were discussed a lot in Autolanka.. do one thing search through the forum , compile everything and write a blog that definitely will help everyone to broaden their knowladge... for market value , browsing xxxxx for a while give you an idea, there is nothing called true value for used cars in sri lanka after-all you have to buy it for the price the seller wants to sell.. Note for member: Please do not mention other car sales websites on AL
  25. For 3.5Mn you can go for a FD series Civic 07-08..Try to find a JDM model fd1 usually sells below the fully loaded version..Else you can find a fd4 07..But the accelerations are not same though you don't gain any kmpl advantage..But if you concerned about kmpl figures these cars may not suite you as they usually do 7-8 in city traffic..A manual could do bit more and give more oomph in acceleration...But finding a one is very rare..
