Guys is it possible that RMV back in the old days get the YOM of a car wrong? There's a particular car which says 1981 in the CR but when i cross check the Model number online it falls in a range of cars made in 1984.

Need Advice or an Idea : My friends house was burgled last night and the burglars made off with the Smart Key to his GP1. The grey imported GP1's usually come with 1 smart key and a regular key. The risk is that the car is now vulnerable to be stolen at any time by the burglars. Is reprogramming the car to a new smart key with a new unlock code possible? Any one faced a similar situation?

Don't know if the guy can re program but there is a chap near Nugegoda - about 100-200 Meters passing the bridge going towards Maharagama. It's on the left hand side and there is an apartment complex Opposite the shop. Sadly don't have his number. Did u try Pet#o or Advance Audio - Dehiwala ?
Rs. 500,000/- ??? My %$#@*&

@matroska And the price difference between 92RON and 95RON has hit 98LKR/l
Considering permanent switch to 92RON, some Knock Retard comparisons between the two and if there's not much of a difference, I'm gonna switch to 92RON.
-
@matroska nothing on the outside, no strange noises or anything like that but the knock sensor is retarding the ignition timing quite a bit it seems. This is on a 100% 92RON tank

AAAgggh I know the feeling... this is why you need a dog too.. or a cat would do..trust me when there is a cat, a dog won't come closer..the cat and the dog stay at a distance and fight with each other..as in the dog bark and the cat purrs, so the dog won't get the change to rub his ass next time..while they quarrel someone will notice it and chase the dog away..

Folks living down under - how common is the Corolla EE80 Hatchback in those parts?
- Show previous comments 3 more
-
Well...you get the EE80H (which subsequently became the AE80H as the 1.3L engines, the 2E and 2A, were swapped), AE81H (with the 1.5L 3A), AE82H (which came with either the 4A-GE or 4A-FE depending on the last 3 digits of the AE82H code) and the CE81H....the body panels, etc are identical between all models except for trim level differences. Mechanically all parts are (for the most part) a direct transfer from the E80 series sedan.
In Sri Lanka there are only a few around...
-
Well...the Corolla hatchback..which is the above car..is the FX. FX stands for FF 2-boX. A 2 box body design is a hatchback...they called it that so that it sounds fancy. In some markets it had the FX name on it..some markets didn't
Actually I stand corrected....unlike the sedan...I don''t think there was an AE80H...only an EE80H where a 1.3L was introduced once the the 12 valve 1300cc, 2E egnine was introduced.
the AE82 hatch (whether it was called FX or Corolla Hatchback) came with the 1.6L 4A engine....it was either the 4A-FE or 4A-GE depending on the trim.

What's up with larger sedans and interior abuse? Most of the 90's Cefiro, Bluebird, Camry/Vista interior bits look like a bunch of sabre toothed tigers had an orgy inside them. This is not the case with the Sunny's Corolla's Starlets and Marches *most of the time*

@MaleCortana Is right, lack of parts is the major plus these cars are hard to come by in Japan too to get the parts. Ours wasnt in a good nick when we got it 17 years ago.
-
Thats a clean U13 @Magnum
@MaleCortana you're right ...other than the spares issue - being a non buyya car people are less likely to have resale in mind. Some people buy without proper financial means to maintain due to the lower price and then leave the cars to rot. It's sad actually- most of these cars have options well before their time and in good nick would be an absolute joy to drive it's a shame they have been abused like this.
-
@MaleCortana is spot on...it is the context the car is used in and owned in.
As for parts, @Magnum mentioned that it is hard to find parts even in Japan...well..yes but no but yes...back in the day, interior parts, sets were easy to come by back in the day...but now (which is when all these cars actually need the parts) they are hard to come by as there are no old cars in Japan. they've all been shipped outside to countries like Africa (where these old barges have a HUGE market). The lack of parts apply for any old car. Been stocking up parts for my Corolla Wagon....it took 7 months for me to find a set of headlights, grill and tail lights ! On the other hand..there were plenty available in SL...used Japanese ones and new Thai reproductions.
-
I'm not sure I've said this before - but time and time again I realize that when you're sad, frustrated or emotionally down someway or the other a quiet drive can always fix things for you...

@iRageYes. I'm Ok. My mother was in hospital for over 3 weeks and eventually passed away last Monday. The correct music, and taking the longer, more scenic routes home helped ease the anxiety and after her passing it soothed the pain.
-
@matroska so sorry to hear that ❤️
They say death is the only certainty in life but it is something you can never get prepared for. Enjoy the long drives until the pain gets erased by joyful memories.

Not the best of times ... but still 1.4 Liters of RWD goodness might just cheer me up ... if I get to pump a full tank ... 😶

Thanks guys! Actually The Starlet is still with us - my Dad uses it and while mechanically in top form has now developed a bit of corrosion - particularly on the floor board, has a significant dent on the passenger door (someone knocked while it was parked - probably a bike), and is need of a complete paint job - I bumped into this on the classifieds for a relatively ok price - and the temporary decommission of the starlet seemed to be a good enough excuse to get my hands on a manual after a really really long time.
-
The first victims of the fuel crisis are unsurprisingly the barges - everyone seems to be selling them and the classifieds and facebook groups are flooded with them. Prices are dropping rapidly and I really really hope a few enthusiasts get hold of them for a reasonable price else it would be really sad to see them rust away 😞
