  1. Am I the only one who always has to close the door twice in Suzuki Keis? (Wagon R/ Spacia) ?

I guess as Tiv said it's the hard beading + the light door. When I use the same amount of force I'm used to when closing the doors of my car it never closes.

  3. Don't want to Jinx it but I think the AL community can all breathe a collective sigh of relief today!

  4. Drove a Mahindra Truck yesterday - absolute automotive minimalism. Zero sound insulation + an absolute racket  but that engine packs a punch.

It’s so light, the pickup is quite fun

back in the day I used to travel to Monaragala a lot, plenty of these on the road with various mods with the locality there.

In stock shape, these could keep up with my 4m41 Montero easy until provoked. Some models came with a stock turbo timer as well. Open roads, quite straight and well paved they easily move 120kmph and above there.

    2. matroska

      matroska

Yup it is light. The version i drove did not have power steering either. There's a massive amount of space in the engine bay - the cabin belongs to the 1960's

  6. Folks living down under - how common is the Corolla EE80 Hatchback in those parts?

Well...you get the EE80H (which subsequently became the AE80H as the 1.3L engines, the 2E and 2A, were swapped), AE81H (with the 1.5L 3A), AE82H (which came with either the 4A-GE or 4A-FE depending on the last 3 digits of the AE82H code) and the CE81H....the body panels, etc are identical between all models except for trim level differences. Mechanically all parts are (for the most part) a direct transfer from the E80 series sedan.

In Sri Lanka there are only a few around...

    3. matroska

      matroska

@Davy and @iRage thanks for clearing that up. I did not believe Aus got that particular version - hence my confusion when someone told me that it was there in Au.  I have seen just one in SL - a red 4 door. BTW  the Corolla FX of the same vintage also got the 1.6 L engine right?

    4. iRage

      iRage

Well...the Corolla hatchback..which is the above car..is the FX. FX stands for FF 2-boX. A 2 box body design is a hatchback...they called it that so that it sounds fancy. In some markets it had the FX name on it..some markets didn't

Actually I stand corrected....unlike the sedan...I don''t think there was an AE80H...only an EE80H where a 1.3L was introduced once the the 12 valve 1300cc, 2E egnine was introduced.

the AE82 hatch (whether it was called FX or Corolla Hatchback) came with the 1.6L 4A engine....it was either the 4A-FE or 4A-GE depending on the trim.

@iRage - Two actually - the first one was a guy asking about a Premio 2017 and after someone suggested a Honda Accord things escalated and then  one guy started a new post on people talking down the Premio.

  8. Guys - how much trouble would i be asking for  with a late 80's Corolla II with a Diesel Engine?

    1. alpha17

      alpha17

A friend of mine owns a petrol one from the same era. A really nice car to drive but he blowed up the engine after getting it performance tuned by a wrong guy. This car was not in perfect shape. Interior bits started to show their age. It was not taken care of by the previous owners. But all the options worked. Dunno about the diesel. But since it’s a Corolla, will run without much of an issue and any makabass would be able to fix. Or else you can swap a new engine?

    2. matroska

      matroska

@alpha17 - Thanks for the info. Didn't check the particular specimen since it seems to have had a gearbox translpant. There's also this tempting looking 2 door red corolla2 (petrol) unmolested and in great shape

    3. alpha17

      alpha17

@matroska 2 door version looks really cool. My friend's one was not in that much of a good shape. But the engine and gearbox felt bulletproof. We had endless fun with it by doing countless burnouts and speedings over 130+ kmph. The car felt really steady and nimble. After abusing it for around 1.5 years he wanted to tune it for more hp. The work was done by a horrible guy so ended up blowing the engine. Now he had replaced the Turbo engine from a Starlet GT. Also replaced the dashboards with a better one. Now it is better. With the diesel I dunno about the performance. But I think finding spares wouldn't be much of an issue.

  9. Guys is it possible that RMV back in the old days get the YOM of a car wrong? There's a particular car which says 1981 in the CR but when i cross check the Model number online it falls in a range of cars made in 1984.

I’ve seen an original diesel Montero market as petrol in the book, and a military Land Rover market as Country of origin - japan

and most hatchbacks are marked as sedan, and everything unless brand new marked as * reconditioned*

I had an interesting experience while driving down to galle once. I was cruising along at around 180kph when an idiot in a premio pulls out into the fast lane with zero signal or shoulder check. bugger was lucky I had good brakes. The 10 second honk didn't even phase the dumb f*ck, he was proud of his stupidity.

  13. Is it just me or are there more and more classifieds with genuine mileage - even for mainstream cars? I see people not being afraid to advertise mileages of 200,000 + this is a good trend.

  14. It's come to the point now that folks are posting ADS meant for the classifieds in the forum.!!! WTF is wrong with this country?

Yes,streets in Japan can be also crowded and narrow. Especially if you are a farmer living in a house in the middle of a rice field, only a kei would be able to reach it through the access road.

There is a significant risk in running a 1000CC car made for Europe, in Sri Lankan conditions. These morons will realize it in a few years' time. I am actually enjoying the 1000 CC threads.
