Did a camping tour to Hulangala on Sunday, its amazing how far the small Alto will take you where some so called SUV's bottom out.

Chinese are going to take over the automobile industry for sure. Tesla who was considered ground braking is shying away from the promised small EV and moving to Taxi cars as the competition is too strong. Then comes Chery with this small EV SUV. Looks like a Mini G Class / Jimny but is fully electric.

So these unregistered 2017ish cars rotting in car sales, better than a used or worse?

Damn! You and Hi-Ace is the mashup the world deserves but never expected A VCSL (Van Club of Sri Lanka) sticker, a TRD sticker, a few posts like " dolpin kiyanne agaman mcn' "dolipn eke kataragama yana heene saba wuna mcn" and most of all a post like this is due!
"වෙනස් වෙන්න කලින් එයයි වෙනස් උනාට පස්සෙ එයයි
#king_fro_රොන්දෙහ්😍
හැම වෙනස් වෙන කෙනෙක්ම පස්සෙ ඉන්න best owuner 👀😍
memder of #VCSL cube"On the unreg cars - almost all that are there in sales are Kei's - and the slightly non-mainstream ones. Nissan Dayz's, Honda NWGns, Daihatsu Move's tantos and whatnot.

Saw two unregistered EV's on test plates running in Battaramulla. All the badges were covered and couldnt find a vehicle to fit the design yet, any ideas?

That's a very nice photo. Good ground clearance on the alto - smaller cars are able to scale through these rough roads : my father in law's HT51S has probably gone places a car wouldnt dream of going. Modern pseudo-SUV's like the vezels etc are merely oversized cars and I find it funny when people say they got it cos they can go anywhere

I used to recommend Perodua's particulary the Viva Elite to people asking what to buy for around 3 Mil. But not anymore. Now they're hitting the 4 Million mark

Coming to this forum on an off brings back memories. Memories of my past life!

AL forums have lost out the regulars and seems to be spammed by businessmen/women from Sri Lanka and the world over.
-
being a petrol head in Sri Lanka is not as fun as it used to be - plus most of the regulars have migrated. Still this is the last online community in Sri Lanka where sanity prevails. The communities on social media are the domain of buyyas and cut-price influencers and their 'jeewithya jayagatta' posts that involve a picture of a dodgy (almost illegal) defender.

Kinda want to buy an unreliable German, idk life seems to be too peaceful these days?

At a point where I might have to do away with project cars/beaters/shitboxes and move onto a less-dramatic reliable second car on a budget - what does the A/L community suggest?

Nice to see you're still around the forums @AVANTE. I'd want it to be cheap as possible the K11's a nice suggestion. A 2-door with some decent alloys will look rather cool.

After three months of ownership I took the Alto for a 1700km drive, with 3 people & luggage for 4nights onboard it didnt miss a beat and was quite happy to sit at 100kmph on the highway from Mattala to Kadawatha. There were no complaints from the occupants as well. I think its a good stop gap car

So carmart fked me up big time. Paint already bubbling and many other issues. Honestly is there anyone/business in this country that is honest and worth it?

sadly no - even the more 'established' joints cut corners and mess things up not to mention the small timers - Do you like to know what happened to my starlet? It had some corrosion so i decided to get it all properly fixed and painted and did an interior restoration done as well. I was very satisfied with the job done. BUT when it came to reassembling the car and the electricals they messed up and my mechanic who did the engine swap is now taking his own sweet time sorting out the issues one by one. Sri Lankan workmanship for you 🤷♂️

Just to let you know that I have updated AL forum software to prevent spamming activities. Will closely monitor for the next few days. Happy motoring guys... 😊

Sold me Rav4 because of certain future plans, now I am wondering what to do? Should I rent a car for a few days or buy a small cheap (reliable) run about that I can sell quickly. Not for daily driving but to go about the weekend shift and probably one or two trips. Heart says rent, but its going to be quite expensive.
