  1. Did a camping tour to Hulangala on Sunday, its amazing how far the small Alto will take you where some so called SUV's bottom out.

Do you guys reckon a Chevy Cruze (the Ignis based one) can handle this?

  2. Chinese are going to take over the automobile industry for sure. Tesla who was considered ground braking is shying away from the promised small EV and moving to Taxi cars as the competition is too strong. Then comes Chery with this small EV SUV. Looks like a Mini G Class / Jimny but is fully electric.

I guess the Chinese (despite producing them) never really mastered the ICE. But with EV's they're on a more level playing field - this gives them great opportunity to dominate the industry the same way they dominate consumer electronics.

Damn! You and Hi-Ace is the mashup the world deserves but never expected :D A VCSL (Van Club of Sri Lanka) sticker, a TRD sticker, a few posts like " dolpin kiyanne agaman mcn'  "dolipn eke kataragama yana heene saba wuna mcn" and most of all a post like this is due!

      "වෙනස් වෙන්න කලින් එයයි වෙනස් උනාට පස්සෙ එයයි

      හැම වෙනස් වෙන කෙනෙක්ම පස්සෙ ඉන්න best owuner 👀😍
      memder of #VCSL cube"

On the unreg cars - almost all that are there in sales  are Kei's - and the slightly non-mainstream ones. Nissan Dayz's, Honda NWGns, Daihatsu Move's tantos and whatnot.

  4. Saw two unregistered EV's on test plates running in Battaramulla. All the badges were covered and couldnt find a vehicle to fit the design yet, any ideas?

That's a very nice photo.  Good ground clearance on the alto - smaller cars are able to scale through these rough roads : my father in law's HT51S  has probably gone places a car wouldnt dream of going. Modern pseudo-SUV's like the vezels etc are merely oversized cars and I find it funny when people say they got it cos they can go anywhere :D

slowly but surely that gap has increased hasn't it 😕  Thankfully I don't drive to work daily : your lancer will probably not complain too much right?

The 'worth for money' cars are no longer worth it hatches like Demio's Swift's are going for crazy prices. I think the whole 'thel karana podi car ekak' mentality has taken root. Sedan's are not that popular

Well 2010 Lancers' are in the high 40's. Tiida's in the mid 40's and the older Tiida's are still there in the 40's - it's got to do with the whole small/economical car mentality I guess. Swift ZC71 hitting the mid 40's , Vitz's in the 50's...crazy!

      matroska

being a petrol head in Sri Lanka is not as fun as it used to be - plus most of the regulars have migrated. Still this is the last online community in Sri Lanka where sanity prevails. The communities on social media are the domain of buyyas and cut-price influencers and their 'jeewithya jayagatta' posts that involve a picture of a dodgy (almost illegal) defender.

"life seems to be too peaceful " I'd say that's an international Camry owner statement

are you looking to sell the camry and get an unreliable German or an unreliable german as a sidekick? An MK1 Golf would be a nice little weekender.

Haiya indeed! One week later I'm  still romanticizing over potential projects and carbureted shitboxes :D

Nice to see you're still around the forums @AVANTE. I'd want it to be cheap as possible :D the K11's a nice suggestion. A 2-door with some decent alloys will look rather cool.

  16. After three months of ownership I took the Alto for a 1700km drive, with 3 people & luggage for 4nights onboard it didnt miss a beat and was quite happy to sit at 100kmph on the highway from Mattala to Kadawatha. There were no complaints from the occupants as well. I think its a good stop gap car

This is the 2015 ish alto right? I've never driven one. Being light it's probably quick off the blocks.

  18. So carmart fked me up big time. Paint already bubbling and many other issues. Honestly is there anyone/business in this country that is honest and worth it?

    1. matroska

      matroska

that paint bubbling looks terrible - i mean a gaha-yata joint does a similar job. Sadly, the only people who can survive in this land without getting depressed is the catalloy-salepaint-fiberbodykit-on-a-rusted-ek3 type :(

      matroska

sadly no - even the more 'established' joints cut corners and mess things up not to mention the small timers -  Do you like to know what happened to my starlet? It had some corrosion so i decided to get it all properly fixed and painted and did an interior restoration done as well. I was very satisfied with the job done. BUT when it came to reassembling the car and the electricals they messed up and my mechanic who did the engine swap is now taking his own sweet time sorting out the issues one by one. Sri Lankan workmanship for you 🤷‍♂️

  21. Sold me Rav4 because of certain future plans, now I am wondering what to do? Should I rent a car for a few days or buy a small cheap (reliable) run about that I can sell quickly. Not for daily driving but to go about the weekend shift and probably one or two trips. Heart says rent, but its going to be quite expensive.

I know very little about the cultus - does it share internals such as gearbox with other suzukis? If your requirement is for a short term best would of course be something mundane and simple. Something like an EP82 Starlet? They are now going for around 2M.

With the fuel price advantage no longer there - diesels are a lot cheaper than their petrol counterparts. Might just be a good opportunity.

Why not something cheap and easily sellable? Something mainstream, nondescript and  not more than 20-25 years old? Maybe something like a Corolla E10X Wagon?
