This is Superb stuff. cant wait to see this thing rolling with it's new 4E. What plans do you have for the 4E?

It's got the 4E on board now - I'll add another entry with the rest of the details.

Great stuff.. sick of seeing Vehicle prices and thel hinganna threads.. Question how did you manage the Axles / Drive shafts? is it going to be EP91 axles or 71?

Thanks for brining that up - i actually forgot to mention that :D  yes I had to replace the axles - used EP91 axles.

It’s nice to see another EP71 user in the forum. I’ve been using one since 2007.

Guys, thanks for your comments! I think the biggest discovery is @wolseley s EP76 - that's one absolute beauty of a Starlet - it looks mint and it's very rare to see a Starlet in this condition. As you said Wolseley, most of these cars are now in the hands of people who simply abuse it and just paste ugly stickers here and there and cover up corrosion with a layer of paint. I'd love to see more pictures of your EP76 - and possibly your journey of restoring it - which I think will have more depth than mine since you've done a tremendous job with that car.

If you have the chassis code you can type it into ToyotaDIY.com and see the trim and color it left the factory with, should help you in identify what trim (DL/XL or whatever it left the factory was).

Yeah I did - and it did seem to be an XL ( I was just being suspicious :D ) The color code was actually 041 which was the Corolla code for white and iRage actually found the color code in the Toyota Catalog archive . Someone though had changed the color to Gold (I assume Wolseley's color) at some point and updated the book too before someone had repainted the car white - which was the original color.  Thanks for the pointers on the Starlet Mechs. Always good to know. Currently I have my guy - single man operation with fairly good equipment : dudes a bit of an allrounder.

I'll follow up with a post on the engine upgrade.

P.S : That pic should be somewhere near Parliament as MaleCortana mentioned.

    @varotone Confused?

lol. No worries I'll explain- Was reading through some of my favorite resto-threads here on Autolanka to cut through the boredom. And decided to see if there were any updates on any of Komisiripala's builds as I could see that @matroska and @Komisiripala had logged into comment on some girl hitting them up on AL...Take a look (at the other car threads, not the girls hitting him up...) He's got another thread on a car he built up: A Datsun 510. It'll be right up your alley, based on your current project. Lots of good reading either way...

Ok now I'm even more confused.... and i really don't think it's a girl .. probably a 6'5" Nigerian dude

If you think my van is low then you should see my friend's one :D

Have you got any mods planned?

Yellow fog lamp overlays looks good on these

Hahah yet to see that but I remember your comment how you eventually get used to driving a relatively low car...

no big mods planned yet - I'm probably gonna run this stock for a bit I've got a lot of mods planned on an older-than-me starlet but I do like to do something with the lamps actually.

Hi everyone. I owned a Honda CR V 2019 vti lx Australian model and it has built-in GARMIN Australia and New Zealand map. I want to replace it with Sri Lanka map. Anyone know how to do that?

This might work on the CRV too...

The plain cloth interior (mine is an SR) needs a fair amount of TLC

True - mine's SR too and really the interior is a dirt magnet plus the fabric on the seats are pretty abrasive.

Updated the garmin maps a couple of time just for kicks, worked each time like a charm.

Yeah - I actually did that thanks to a post in the Civic FB group. I love the directions on the meter cluster too :D

  7. Nice Review! 6-7 KMPL (and that too on 92 ain't bad actually) - we have forgotten the days of Primeras, Cefiros  and Gallants and compare fuel economy with the Priuses/Aquas and Fit's.  Honestly I'm surprised to see less people embracing the Eclipse  as opposed to the vezel craze of 2014-15....but maybe the higher price put people off,and I  guess people are a little hesitant to commit for a newer model - an uncle I know did a lot of research about this talked a lot about it and finally bought a premio with his permit ?

Wait..So what's the Macan's role now? Larger family hauler?

Also a bit biased here, but I don't understand why no one is importing the new swift sport 1.4 turbo? It's a real quick grocery getter so it's a bit surprising there aren't any.. Or are there any in the island that I'm unaware of?

1.4 would mean higher tax youd probably end up paying more than the cars purchase price. The 1.0L boosterjet powered swift isnt bad either...but they are hard to come by. A friend wanted to import one earlier this year and the auctions only had high mileage low auction grade units ....eventually he ended up with a Civic SR.

    Awesome!?

The sportiest-looking & most fun new car you could buy besides the new Mazdas &  Swift RS.

Is it just me or is the fuel consumption a bit on the high side? For a 1.0L Turbo?

Also my first time learning about the on board sensor.. reminds me, when I was a kid, dad would tell me to stay in the car when he has some quick office work to do or has to go the shop, when he's back, he would get scared as to where I had gone (hiding behind the rear seat, all tucked down..give him the scares for a sec :P)..wouldnt work anymore though.

8-9 in city is pretty much ok I guess for an ICE car....I had a GP1 which managed about 12 under the same conditions despite being a hybrid....

I guess they have given a lot of thought about locking in someone inside the car - if you hold down the unlock button on the remote for a bit all 4 windows will open slightly allowing air to circulate

you will actually get used to it and it’s going to be pretty much ok if you know where to go and how to get there without actually scraping the underside.

This is true - I'm able to go to most places - recently went to this remote place 'Hakwatuna-Oya' and was wise enough to leave the civic behind and travel in a Chevy Cruze - however has to be said any regular sedan would also have struggled and it's only because the Cruze has above average ground clearance that it managed to go unscathed.

  11. Wow this is brilliant - so much old world charm. Good luck with the project @kusumsiri - the car already looks nice so after you've finished we will probably see an absolute minter ?. Back in 2007 when i had just finished my AL's my dad and i bought a Morris Traveller to restore sadly neither of us had the time to spend on it so we sold it off - that car was in horrid shape compared to this ( It even had it's own in-house eco system of insects - ants spiders etc)  it traveled more miles by being pushed than by it's own engine ?  that picture of the engine brought back some memories

  12. Nice succinct review.  When it came out in the early 2000s the 121 was a a bit of a novelty for the local car buyers  in terms of design etc...remember it was introduced into a market of 110's FB14's etc so the interior, features as well as the fuel efficient engine was quite a hit and  back then I remember being in one and appreciating the good space in the front compared to my dad's B14.  The 121 was probably the most popular model of corolla here. Sadly due to the extreme popularity 90% off these cars were used as a trade-able commodity hence the derelict state they're in.
