  1. Love how clarkson does American accents! Anyways, here's the next one
  2. no it was telecast in 2015... I just wanted to type the model name hence replied saying it was NOT telecast in 2008 I love that episode...
  3. Oui Oui - I don't think this episode was telecast in 2008
  4. 1. Fuel Efficiency : Japanese Salons in your budget are from around the late 90's and Early 2000's generally most of them would be regular petrols with 1.5 L or 1.3L engines. Fuel efficiency will not be hybrid range and will not give you 15+ KMPL as many brag about. Realistically 10-12 KMPL is what you will get if you properly calculate that to based on your driving style and the condition of a 25 year old engine. 2. Resale Value : I don't think you can expect a profit from the sale with the current economic climate. People who overspent during 2020-2021 are losing out since the car prices have come down somewhat, specially in this budget range. If you get it for the right price you will not lose out when you sell. I would suggest a Mazda Familia BJ series - decent car that is within your budget. Another option is a Lancer CK if you can find a good specimen in your budget. (non-riced up). The usual common suspects would be Corolla /Sprinter 110s FB15's - the challenge is finding a good car as most of the common cars are abused and change hands often. Couple of left field choices would be something like a Toyota Soluna or a Honda City - these were basic cars made for the emerging markets like ours. While not very popular you have the advantage of getting a newer car for a lesser price.
  5. My first guess was the Mahindra XUV 700 - which it's not. I'm guessing a Chinese EV which is NOT BYD.
  6. It's a Norev. https://www.carmodel.com/norev/185131-2/1-18/renault/r16-1968/153971 True it's not the most detailed Norev. Norev is usually good. AutoArt is of course next level and burns a massive hole in your pocket as well. Since @iRage got the answer right - I think the floor is yours.
  7. It is indeed a 1:18 model of a _____________ ? (the actual car pics were just too obvious) it's fairly detailed enough to get an idea
  8. True - there were exceptions - for instance the Takata airbag recall. Most of the time, you cannot.
  9. No. Even if there was a recall in Japan you will not be eligible for it. The Premio falls under a 'grey import' category. For a vehicle to be even marked 'Brand new' in the Certificate of Registration it needs to be imported through the agent. Premio is a Japan domestic market car not intended to be used in Sri Lanka. So even if there is a recall Toyota or Toy#ta L#nka are not bound to provide you the free repair. Another instance was the Honda Fit GP1 - developed an oil leak issue which was recalled in Japan. The grey imported local cars were not eligible for the recall. If you want an true 'brand-new' car you have to import it through the agents. Everything else is a grey-import and most of the time if things start going south you are on your own.
  10. that and the pic of the rear: something Jaguarish with a very cushiony looking interior ...Hyundai sona...no not the lights - Korean... Daewoo!
  11. From an era where cars from this country were iffy. We had a refrigerator under the same brand around 20 years ago. This would be a Daewoo Leganza and most of them still running would be probably on Japanese drivetrains.
  12. correct Gummy ...floors yours!
  13. Well you will not be able to find 'zero-issue' cars. Of course the inherrent ABS issue is there for the axio and same with the hybrid battery. I personally find 10M too much for a econ-hybrid like the axio. and same goes for a 10 YO premio which is again a basic car. Also it will be a bit challenging to find honest specimens of both cars. So if you by any chance go for one make sure to get a proper inspection done. I will explain why. WRT Axio - very popular among rentals and taxi services. There are loads of these that have run to the moon (distance to moon 384,000 km) and mileage rolled back. Same goes for Premio. Circa 2018 - there was a car sale in mount that had premios that all had the exact mileage - 69,000 km 😛 so you get my drift...while Premio would not have the hybrid battery worries nor the ABS worries it might turn out to be a lemon on how it's been maintained. Then coming to other options - Mazda 6 is a great car but at 1M you're looking at probably 2014 max. Still a decent choice. Then Mazda Axela - you can get something in the same vintage of the axio. Both these cars are solid cars with a lot of bells and whistles, comfort, handling and basically a lot more car for what you pay. Then a glaringly obvious choice is the 2017 onwards Honda Civics - the 1.5 L variants are beyond your budget. But the turbocharged 1L ones are well within budget. While the 3 pot engine is nothing to write home about, it packs a little more power than a premio and the overall ride quality is country miles ahead of a premio/allion/axio - the downer being that based on how it's maintained the model may throw up a few gremlins (read the dedicated thread on the model) If Crossovers are your cup of tea - you have stuff like Suzuki Vitara's and SX4's from around 2018. Then we have several Korean options in the same category.
  14. love the reply! does anyone else want to have a go?
  15. Ok since we all seem to agree on what this vehicle is I'll just formalize it. It's a Nissan Serena. The picture I've posted is the e-power variant.
  16. Yeah the Belta would actually be a decent choice but they are quite expensive - being JDM it's a bit more refined than the similar Yaris /Vios. The ride is a comfier, comes with CVT and as a result is apparently better on fuel as well. The agent imported yaris on the other hand is a bit more rugged and as per users quite thirsty for a basic 1.3 L car.
  17. Did this apparent 'complexity' contribute to the lower popularity of the CD engine based vehicles as a whole - (basically CD20 and CD17)? the Makabass community seem to have a 'Nissan podi diesel engine Leda' mentality. The Toyota light diesel 1C/2C (1N is an exception) powered corollas corolla wagons and townaces are much more popular as opposed to the Sunnys wingroads bluebirds and vanettes (sticking to just Toyo and Nissan since the 90's were all about these two brands - of course the makabass community also attest that isuzu diesel engines are bulletproof)
  18. Yeah which is why i said 'unjustly vilified' - while I have no experience with one, what I read/heard made me believe the negative perception was baseless. Maybe the local makabass community of the 90s were not ready for it when it landed here in the mid 90's
  19. The evolution of 'sadakal-oba-mage'... the unjustly vilified, feared pariah of the 90's! I'll wait if someone else want's to answer.
  20. Yes it is a British car. I've added a more generous picture but can't move it further towards the left, the model name will be visible 😉
  21. Any clues needed on this ?
  22. As irage had mentioned the Honda City and Vios were not quite 'feature-rich' to beign with -city and vios were the emerging market variants to complement the Civics and Corollas. Vios in the local context is popular since it's a rather durable car that keeps running and running and due to this popularity most of these were routinely hacked. Even as late as 2015 when I was car hunting the majority of Vios I came across were in a really sorry state. They were very poorly maintained. But of course there can be exceptions. An uncle of mine has been using a 2004 Vios since 2007 and that thing is taken care of like a baby. Swift beetle is quite a decent car (the Japanese version since anyway you're looking at an Auto) - the only thing is do not expect it to be supremely fuel efficient just because it's a hatch. Generally, I'd say you're safer with a Viva Elite (now of course there could be a messed up Viva Elite that will be an absolute lemon and at the same time there are manual elite's converted to Auto locally -again if done right not a big deal but depends on how the conversion was done. ) It's a small nippy car with decent support and parts availability. Easy to maintain as well. If you want something a bit more refined than the Viva Elite go for the Suzuki Swift (Beetle) I'd stay away from the Vios unless there is a pristine car. I think his budget aligns with the NCP42 Vios and not the next gen SCP90 series. WRT to the swift I think by opting for Auto OP has eliminated the Indian spec swift since it only came in Manual form AFAIK.
