  1. Daihatsu Terios, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage If age is not a problem you can get a more rugged vehicle like Bighorn I think I answered you in another thread too? Can you stick to one thread maybe?
  2. True. It's just that it doesn't quite survive well under harsh sri lankan conditions. If you can get a non molested one for cheap then keeping aside 2-3k apart for a repair might not even be a bad idea. It's not a terrible car or anything - actually right now since prices are cheap you could take a risk and get one but remember to keep some cash aside for a potential repair. look don't let fuel economy be the deciding point for everything. The Boeing 737 Max 8 burns 16% less fuel than it's competitor the a320 neo but now do you think anyone would want to even fly on one ? The Vezel is actually not too good on fuel -yes for a small Crossover SUV it's ok but fuel figures are not magical. If a pseudo-SUV (read a hatchback with big-wheels and a bit of ground clearance) is a MUST then other options 1. Daihatsu Terios - you can get something from around 2013-14 (Theres actually a 2014 model for sale on a different site for 4.4 M) Lesser bells and whistles than the Vezel, a bit of a bland car but has simple technology and would be easier to maintain than the Vezel. 2. Korean Crossovers - Hyundai Tucson/ Kia Sportage: you will be looking at 2010-2012 models at this price range more refined than Terios, Looks decent. If you're brave and masochistic at the same time you could even consider a ssangyong
  3. I think there is no difference in the engine. Purely differences in accessories such as paddle shift etc. and cosmetic changes. For instance the L Grade comes with cruise control, some safety features, a more plusher steering wheel (and led lights?-not sure tho) The S has all that and fog lights, better seats, larger spoiler if im not mistaken, a more stylized rear bumper, paddle shift and fancy break and acceleration paddles. The F grade is the base grade. unlike the Gp1 oil burning issue which is in fact a manufacturing defect which affects only range of particular vehicles, the DCT issue is not a defect - it's just that it wasn't designed to operate in Sri Lanka's harsh driving conditions. See there might be a GP5 in some outstation where the driver only drives on a long open road and never in traffic that might have no DCT issues so it's more like a lottery (having said that buying a used car is anyway a bit of a lottery ? ) most of the 161's were bought on permit and are still with their first users and usually well maintained - it's not a 'fast moving' car so less chance of it being traded among 47 owners on open books . A good friends father had such a 161 very well maintained and at 100,000 Km's car was in pristine condition - sold it last year since his new permit came. Decent car for that budget.
  4. That's as good as it can get!
  5. Less than 1000kms means you won't be burning a lot of fuel even in a vitz hence the hybrids fuel savingness won't outweigh maintenance costs etc. Build quality of Vitz is below aqua easily and waaaay below gp5. The aqua is also comfier. Same applies to all the features that you get. The vitz is as basic as they come.
  6. What's with Vezels and accidents of late?

I too noticed Mitsubishi s have a harder body and even the doors are heavier, I thought it was just me

this was after using Toyota’s for almost 15years and land rovers

yes, Even the Mitsu Mini Pajero (Kei car) felt more rigid and tough, compared to non-kei small SUVs from other JP brands.

  7. Maintained my Fit at both JaEla and Maradana from 2015-2018. (Mostly Maradana actually) I didn't have any major reasons for complain other than maybe the fact they're a bit lenient for instance when I wanted to change the air filter they said 'na sir oken thawa tikak duwanna puluwan'. Other than that the service advisers at Maradana were quite friendly and approachable. And yes I don't sit in the waiting room but walk to the wash bays and service areas. My experience so far has been quite ok. One boo-boo at Jaela is they don't have microfiber as someone else posted. can you elaborate what the bad experience was? sort of true - I agree it's not acceptable that you have to push them to check if items are ok or not
  8. Nice succinct review. When it came out in the early 2000s the 121 was a a bit of a novelty for the local car buyers in terms of design etc...remember it was introduced into a market of 110's FB14's etc so the interior, features as well as the fuel efficient engine was quite a hit and back then I remember being in one and appreciating the good space in the front compared to my dad's B14. The 121 was probably the most popular model of corolla here. Sadly due to the extreme popularity 90% off these cars were used as a trade-able commodity hence the derelict state they're in.
  9. Fuel Consumption : Aqua (less fuel consumed) . Maintenance Costs : No big difference Ground Clearance : Fit Better Cargo Volume : Fit. Known Issues : Aqua -> Batteries going kaput. Fit-> Surprisingly I have not yet heard GP5 batteries going Kaput as commonly as Aqua but the DCT issue is of course there.
  10. If it has to be Brand new with agent warranty then you're mostly down to - Axia, WagonR (from A#W) and Kia. The WagonR will provide you more bells and whistles but in the long Run a Picanto with agent warranty and everything will be a solid choice. You will struggle to find a good Swift for under 4 mill if you go for Used but unregistered. You can get a decent 2017 Vitz for 4M though.
  11. Congrats on what looks like an excellent buy. It's a beauty to look at ?
  12. Never owned either but have driven both and still do travel quite a bit in a friends IST - of the two the GE6 is more value for money imho as you get a nice spacious car that is quite nippy - with the whole adjustable rear seat arrangement the GE6 can be extremely versatile. The IST is a little more bland in my opinion and not the most comfy - it's a typical toyota from the early 2000's . Nice rugged car has the typical toyota reliability (but hey it's now 15 years old so consider that too.) If i had to choose between a 15 Year old IST and a 10 year old GE6 I'd pick the GE6. There is a specific range of chassis numbers. This was discussed so many times so you can easily find the number range and avoid one - majoritiy of GE6's in SL are from 2009 and 2010 since from 2011 onwards due to the tax structure people opted for the GP1. Find a GE6 not in the affected range and you're good to go. BTW is this GE6 a black 2010 one ? Looking at your username I have a sneaky suspicion I know you
  13. given the trouble a presealogist like you had finding a presea I can only say to the OP good luck!
  14. Bit subjective on how you intend to use it. Off the top of my head 1. Suzuki Swift Ignis/Chevreolet Cruze [HT51S - AKA Jeep model in the local market] - Smallish car but can carry 4-5 people around with a bit of boot space as well. Extremely capable on poor roads basically you can go anywhere. Not the most comfortable or refined but it's very tough and can handle lots of abuse. 2. Lancer CS1 - Comfy car and you get a newer car for your money (comparatively) overall one of the more underrated cars in SL. 3. Mazda Familia/323 BJ5P (~2003) - Another underrated gem. Really tough cars that keep going on and on. 4. Honda Fit GD1 - small but nippy car with lot of space for it's class. 5. Mazda Demio ~2007 : Another nice little car ..maybe not the most spacious. But handles really well for your budget you're looking at one with a bit of high mileage
  15. Wow this is indeed a rarity. Congrats on your potential purchase ? Please keep us updated on this thread.
  16. The best person to answer your Ford queries would be @Crosswind
  17. keep looking from car sales - no harm but most of the time the really good ones are usually found in a home somewhere from the original owner. Car Sales, Buyyas (buying-and-sell folk) are scum 90% of the time trying to peddle off a lemon. Having said that some folk have actually found good cars from the sales too but it's a rarity.
  18. Then how on earth does the UK manufactured Honda Civic have electrically retracting mirrors?
  19. This is a myth created by the car sale mudalalis to peddle their shitty 121's - the actual fact here is that in Sri Lanka's harsh conditions batteries don't last long but that's not always the case. I've said this dozen times before I had a six year old 60,000 Km Honda fit which i sold last year with the battery in perfectly good health. Currently there is a hybrid-phobia due to some of the popular hybrids developing issues BUT other than the aqua batteries flat-lining the issues with the Hondas - Vezel, GP5, GP1 etc are due to non-battery related issues - namely the Oil leak in GP1 and the DCT issue with the others.
  20. Discussed before in the Civic 2018 thread.
  21. Well I'm not sure if the DCT issue will cost as much as 700k. My guess was around 300k. These cars have been discussed before as well recently. In a nutshell every hybrid is not a disaster waiting to happen and the DCT issue is simply due to the harsh usage in SL. There could be (i know for a fact there are) meticulously maintained Vezel/GP5s that are unaffected by DCT. As for every hybrid that has done 50,000 km needing to have the battery replaced is an over generalization. Last year i sold a 2012 GP1 with a battery that had 75% usable capacity and a friend of mine has a 2009 insight that still runs without a glitch. BUT if you're actually concerned why not avoid the whole fiasco and go for a non hybrid car like a Mazda 3 ?
