  1. Please do share the pics when you get a chance @K.o.N.o.S. Would be fascinating to see. Hey @vitz, I spoke to the guy I gave the speakers away to. You are spot on, it was the cross over but not the joints. He had to replace a cap it seems. However, he tells that it's not the same since the cabinet was opened and fixed. There's a rattle when certain low frequencies are played.
  2. Thank you for the tip @indrajee - I'll definitely take on this change. Cheers, K9M
  3. Thank you @matroska. That's really helpful. No need to stop in K'gala so I'll exit early. Cheers, K9M
  4. Hi Rukshan W, Did you find a good car? @Gummybr has covered pretty much everything. I've got a 2006 E200 Kompressor (Facelift) for sometime and it's been largely trouble free journey. Also have driven an E240 on an off so I can compare between the two. E200K has a 4 cylinder 1.8L engine with a supercharger where as E240 is a 2.6L V6. If you manage to find an E200K manufactured in 2006 or after (a tad rare in SL) you'd have more power 184BHP opposed to 177BHP in E240 and the E200 has the weight advantage as well. On the other hand E240 sings when revved. All this said, it's by no means sporty. A luxury barge that allows your to overtake with relative ease is what it is. Overall, both are good cars and tech and features are quite similar. If / when you call sellers, try and get the VIN over the phone and run it through mb.vin : VIN Decoder for Mercedes-Benz for a full list of features, original destination post manufacture, climatizations etc. Cars imported by D*MO get a suspension tuned for better ride height, a beefed up AC system to coup up with our temperatures and a few other extras that suits us. There's not a lot of a difference between tech features across these models at least from the lot that was imported to Sri Lanka. I'm yet to come across any E Class from that era with Keyless go, Distronic etc. But I've seen cars with Electric seats with memory, Sunroof, quad zone climate control, Harman Kardon sound system etc. Stock Infiniti sound system is more than perfect though, and well tuned for the interior of the car. Needless to mention to look for full service records. These can go really wrong really fast if not properly maintained. I only have experience with D*MO which is not as expensive as the popular belief but I've got to know that there are a few competent shops that can look after Mercs well (Ar*v*nda M*t*rs etc.) Power shutters, mirrors and seat controls are fine though they are not of the best quality. But the biggest issues I've seen are with AC vents, Climate Control Unit and under-seat plastics. These are absolutely horrible and tend to break away to the touch (depending on how much sun exposure they've had). Rest of the interior is trouble free, leather, wood and metal pieces (of which there are plenty) are fine and solid, seats are very comfortable and looks good in the long run if the leather is moisturized periodically and maintained. Pre-2005 cars had a different brake by wire system that ties to ABS / ESC which was quite troublesome. I think most of the cars imported by the agent had the problematic parts replaced by D*MO. If it's an automatic it's also best to get a feel of gear changes in the 722.5 gearbox and see if it's in a good condition. However I heard that these could be repaired / restored relatively inexpensively in SL. Good luck in your search.
  5. Hey Vitz, Glad you started this thread. I'd certainly like to call myself a Retro / Vintage Hi-Fi enthusiast even though don't have many priced possessions. Coincidentally, I also had a pair of Denon Overtures and enjoyed every bit of it. A few years ago one of the woofers stopped working and I knew that busting them open and attempting to repair would ruin them. So had to give them away to someone who was willing to. Got a Marantz SD-63 Cassette deck with Dolby C, A Denon PMA 737 Amplifier and a Kenwood RX-28, (Which I keep more for sentimental value - my first stereo - than audio quality) and a pair of Kenwood LS-V710 Speakers (again more for nostalgia). I can't enjoy these as much as I like since I had to stash them away in my fathers place in Kandy. Had to make a deal with my wife to keep a chair in the perfect listening position for stereo audio in the living room. In exchange I had to select just one pair of speakers and one amp / device to listen to 😥
  6. Hi All, Planning to take the route to Batti through Kurunegala, selected route (blue) on the map. And then for added adventure, planning to come back on the following day through Monaragala, Kataragama and Galle (grey on the map). Any tips, thoughts advises are really appreciated. Thanks in advance, K9M
  7. Hey Schiffer, what time is this happening? In home town for the weekend and badly needed to see / hear the RBR in person cheers, K9m
  8. Bandaragama would be the 1st choice for me but let's decide based on the majority vote
  9. So he served in war torn areas just for the kicks I guess, you know like those 'Suddah' fellows who always go in search of adventures...
  10. Never expected this to happen: http://forum.autolanka.com/topic/14744-formula-1-2013/page-8#entry251617
  11. Hi Watchman, Been to that track and that is awesome. (I had the idea to suggest it earlier but figured since you guys have had meetups in Battaramulla before, to leave it to the preferred choice of many) Track: Much faster than battaramulla, well designed and very well maintained (Run by David Peiris Company and Mr. Peiris is often there to ensure that the standards are maintained) Karts: Similar to Battaramulla, there are many good ones with a few bad ones that are not that faster. We can ask them to even give out 80cc Karts (those things are flying) but since there's only few of them there they'll not give them out if we are running racing rounds where we compare lap times. All Karts have the safety mechanism that doesn't allow you to brake without taking the foot off the accelerator so we can't keep the foot hard down and drive with the brake as we do on the other track Distance: We can reach the circuit in 15 mins after leaving E01 from the 2nd exit so the total commute time (including the time to reach Kottawa) would be about 1 hour (on a sunday) Food: We'll have to take our own or arrange a party to provide food and of course the drinks There are no food stalls near by. (AFAIK) More details & images of the track: https://www.facebook.com/slkarting Yes, a CKE run is a lot of fun but I vote for this where we can hangout for longer and do a lot more.
  12. +1. Completely agree with you. All of the fancy economic strategies (any strategies presented on anything more likely) have been nothing but mere pictures painted just to get through a few speeches, debates. No follow through till the time the next speech arrives at which point a whole new ridiculous picture is painted.
  13. I wouldn't think twice and move back to Kandy. Have a house there which I can live much more peacefully than I do in colombo. The rent I pay and the fuel expenditure spent in colombo put together will be able to cover my commute from Kandy to Office in Dematagoda. Plus I start work around 6.am and off by 2.30pm so hope the traffic will be easy too. However, i don't think it will have a major impact on real estate prices. May be a short term dip in the city and the closer suburbs triggered by people moving away from the city but as the city develops the demand will be higher. Prices in distant suburbs will go higher as mentioned quoting the distance to the expressway entry point. Cheers, K9M
  14. I've not been a fan of F1 for a long enough to comment on "the sad state of F1 today". But If the Hulk doesn't secure a seat in a decent team next year, it's gonna be a pretty sad situation to anyone who like or follow the game. I really thought he would end up in Lotus but by the looks of it, its not gonna happen.
