Congratulations on the car ! She does look very nice !!! I am not a big fan of soul red (or the other kind of red) on most of the Mazdas as it is so so common. Prefer this blue and the gun metail a lot more :)

As trinity suggested. Please create a separate thread for the car....later on if you feel like you want to share all the above discussions about coming to your decision, we can merge the threads together as well.

I love that Red bro. For me this car looks stunning in that color. But what you say is true, it’s very common. Blue and the gun metal colors are uncommon and suits the car well too.

I always thought you be a “Mitsubishi till death do you part” guy

ha ha ha … I would’ve had Mitsubishi manufactured good cars like they used to. Unfortunately there’s no other sedan option after the Lancer EX which I could upgrade to. I was contemplating between the outlander and Mazda 6 for a while and I knew what excited me was the 6.

Whichever car I drive, Mitsubishi will hold a special place in my heart always ❤️

Hi @fiat fan sorry couldn't find time to reply. so finally bought it and did all the major/pending repairs and maintenance items. Replaced engine oil, ATF, replaced minor suspension parts and now feels like a brand without any squeaky or rattling noises. had to replace the battery too in order to fix i-stop.

also some idiot hit my car from behind a week after I bought it and I hit the car in front of me causing 4 vehicle accident. had to replace rear bumper and front grill. Nothing major, but was on garage for 2 weeks for all of these.

Will post some pics here later. only got images from the accident. 😁

Congratulations on your purchase. She is stunning!! Read through the entire thread and I was thrilled to see that you chose the Mazda.

I was also planning to upgrade to a 6 after my Lancer EX, but I had to put that on hold due to the inflated prices and the country situation.

Suggest you create a new thread dedicated to the car and use it to share your journey with the car if time permits.

    Cheers!!

Sadly in the current situation people do the bare minimal actions just to make sure the cars run and nothing more - a good many cars are deteriorating due to this.

P.S : can't help but mention that that particular CS has a timeless design. Oh and since we're on about Lancers mine says hi.

Completely agreed on this. That never look never get old.

Glad to see your Lancer as well. This used to be THE car at one point in SL history of cars. Still holds a good demand I think.

  6. Look who came to see me today!
After almost 4 years since we departed I met my ever loving CS today. It was a moment with mixed feelings. I was happy to see her but at the same time was sad to see the state she was in.
Nevertheless she will forever hold that special place in my heart until the day my eyes are shut for good.

    Miss you old buddy!

Yeah it was a one-off, guess it was something else. I need to change my serpentine belt because it makes a squealing noise sometimes on cold start, maybe I heard something related to that

That explains it. Go for a genuine belt. Mine had been replaced at 94,000 and it still holding up good (No noises at all) at 190,000.

    Hello Guys,

Few repairs were done on the car.

Radiator Coolant tank was leaking and upon checking it was tattered in half.replaced with a brand new tank at kandy radiator house. It was such a pain to remove the radiator as I specifically advised to remove the unit without removing the front bumper. It was finally doable and the guy was extremely patient in removing and replacing the unit. Gave him generous tip for a job well done.I was also advised that radiator also was on it's way out. but damn!! the price of the brand new unit is 150000.00rs. Considering the cost definitely not doable at this point of time.

Cost for the tank and the coolant-19000.00rs

As of late I have been having starting issues where the car was hesitant to start at the first go.The situation got worse after a few days and my mechanic examined and advised that the problem is definitely with the starter motor and needed immediate service. Service was done at Roshan auto electronics where the starter Brusher and the starter solenoid had to be replaced.Roshan electronics are pretty much starter motor specialists they had the brand new units so replaced them right away.

    Starter brusher- 2800.00rs
    Starter solenoid- 5800.00rs
    Labour charges-2000.00rs
    Total- 10600.00rs

As I mentioned on an earlier maintenance thread my long due spark plug replacement was finally done. (after almost 13 years). Ordered through partsouq and arrived at home via Aramex.
Cost for the spark plug set and 4 bumper clips- 86.32$
Total cost-36700.00rs (including shipping and 4700.00rs tax charges)

and finally some small aesthetic touches.

Headlight cover was polished and resurfaced.
front grill Mitsubishi badge was turned to black (since I am not a fan of chrome accents).
Steering wheel was wrapped with leather cover (Hand Knitted).
Side mirrors were wrapped with carbon fiber sticker.
    Smoked side markers were Installed.

    Cheerz.

    IMG_20220326_173622.jpg

Damn this look.. never get enough of it!!!!

    Thanks for sharing the updates.

The price you've mentioned about the radiator? Is that for a brand new one or a recon one? Nevertheless, that's a crazy amount for a radiator. Any particular reason as to why you insisted not to remove the bumper?

Guess you replaced the existing side marker lights with blacked out ones. Hope they light up sufficiently. They look nice on the car. Not a fan of those carbon wraps on the mirror covers and the steering wrap job machang.

With regard to the replacing of spark plugs, usually they were supposed to be changed in 100k intervals. Surprised that the originals have been used for that much of time. Do you feel a considerable change in performance and FE after the change or is it on the same level? Mine had been changed back in 2018 at the mileage of 94k. Now the car is at 188k. So I was instructed to get the plugs changed during my next tuneup. Looks like partsouq route is bit expensive than buying them locally.

I still could not share the repairs done to the car during the past year or so. There weren't many but some of the repairs were repetition of the earlier ones.

Lets see if I could find time during the weekend to put an update.

  9. To OP, dont trust the guys at UM Hydepark as they are not that professional. For example, during my previous oil change, they gave me an inspection sheet noting that there aren't any faults with the car. However, I knew the car had leaking brake cylinders and a busted CV joint which made a significant amount of noise when turned.

If you want correct professional opinion, take the car to the Orugodawatte service centre. There are good people working there.

With regard to the fuel consumption, mine is a 2011 1.5L with a CY2A engine which does an average of 10kmpl in city traffic (sometimes goes down to 8 in heavy traffic) and around 14-15 in outstations depending on how you drive. I usually drive at 70-80 when possible out side of the city areas. Car gives a good economy between 70 to 120 as per my experience.

I think the noise you are referring is the timing chain noise maybe, the engine tone of the Lancer EX is somewhat unusual when compared with other sedans in the same category. You could say its a hybrid of a car engine and an SUV engine tone. And it has the most noisiest cooling fans ever put in a car!

Guys so octane 95 is available for you? Me no luck yet. Do you run the vehicles with 92 + octane boosters? (even boosters are out of stock).

Im sure I typed a reply to this but dont know what has happed to it.

I'm running on 92 for a little while now. Cant identify any difference though. Maybe our 95 is bad or there's no major difference of the two. Any how, at this rate it wont be soon that we would drive our cars about 100kms per month rather than thousands of kms. My car is not a daily anymore as I cant afford the petrol cost to run the car daily to Colombo for a month.

Just switched to a staff transport.

3 years and almost 25,000km under my ownership. It is time for an engine tune up.
    The usual procedures were followed.

Fuel injectors were removed/tested and cleaned.
Throttle body was cleaned- I was surprised to see the load of dirt/Carbon deposits.
Air intake system was cleaned. Air filter was on it's way out so ordered Mitsubishi genuine air filter from partsouq (Part Num 1500A023). Placed the order 0n 28th Jan and arrived on 3rd of Feb via Aramex.
spark plugs checked and car is still rocking with the original Bosch spark plugs set. One was on it's way out so all 4 needs replacing. This is a pending task for me.
Finally the scan was done with no errors found.

Overall it was a tune up done right at midland auto Pvt limited.
The guy was tidy and did a fantastic job and I knew it when I saw drops of water coming out from the exhaust.
Took almost 3 hours for the tune up.

    Cost for the tuneup+labor- 12,000rs.
    Air filter cost-9800rs (including shipping).

Hi @K.o.N.o.S, Thanks for sharing the details with photos. glad to hear that the car is treating you well.

With regard to the tune up, the O-rings that are located near the bottom of the injectors are replaced when the tuneup is done at the Agent. I think I shared this in my earlier posts on the tune-up. Usually they last about 50k kms so if you had them replaced before, no issue. From the looks of your photos though, it seems that they are pretty burnt up. Suggest to get them checked in order to be sure.

The cost of Air Filter seems almost same as with the agent isn't it? I replaced mine two services ago (5 months before) and I remember the cost was around 10k.

I've been waiting to update few repairs done to my EX but could not find time. Will update them here if I get a free time.

    Cheers!

Yeah if you are daily runner this makes sense from cost standpoint. However Manufacturer strictly recommends using 95 octane for Lancer ex. So I have this paranoia that if i use 92 regularly then it will ruin the engine in the long run. 😁

I dont think so. But its always best to use the car according the the manufacturer recommendations.

So, 95 octane broke the 200LKR barrier... anyone else contemplating going for 92 octane?

I use 92 time to time. My car is a daily runner. In average I drive about 1700kms per month and hence I consume about 170 liters monthly. Cant say that I've noticed any differences with performance nor fuel consumption figures.

    Hey Guys,

Looks like I have missed quite a lot in this thread. It's been a while since my last post.Hope you guys are safe and sound and getting used to new normal.I have done quite a few repairs on my Car and thought of giving you short versions with Pics.

Replaced Rear tyres- This was done last year, I was looking for same Nankang S20 tyres as my front However due to unavailability of stocks I settled with Kenda Vezda Set (225*45*18). Not as impressive as the Nankang tyres but gets the job done.

    Tyres Cost-46,000Rs
    Wheel balancing and alignment-1,700rs.

An Engine oil leak was repaired- At first I thought this was from the Oil pan itself. However digging deeper the leak was actually from the Oil pressure plug.Since this needed to be addressed quickly I went ahead with a Local Pressure plug for just 450bucks. Needed some ground work to get this properly fixed though.

Replaced Rear brake shoes- My rear brake shoes were on their way out. This was spotted at routine service. Mitsubishi part Num- 4600A028. Roamed around kandy to find the parts,After a few errand runs found the exact match with a Nissan Bluebird shoes set (Model-JFBK KN-1267). Took both Rear brake drums to a lathe shop and smoothen the inner surfaces before fitting the shoes.

    Brake shoes- 5,000Rs
    Lathe shop labour charge-1,000rs
    Fitting labour charge- 2,500rs

Radiator Cap Essay was damaged and was replaced- Coolant was literally storming from the cap after about 3km run with AC on. As a temporary measure used Elephant Epoxy Adhesive to seal the leak. in the meantime ordered Cap-Assay- Radiator (Mitsubishi Part Num 1350A043) from Amayama for 10k including shipping. Arrived exactly after 2 weeks.Fitted and No more leaks. The old Cap Assay was in really bad shape and literally Cracks were visible inside.

With the exception of the Tyre replacement all the other services were done at home by my trusted mechanic. Yeah I am lucky to have the luxury of having a home visiting mechanic. overall a Very good learning experience for me as well.

    Signing out. Drive safe guys.

Guys I'm nearing my 2nd engine oil change in 500KMs.

Few days back i noticed reduced engine oil levels compared to my previous car(Toyota), of course it was still within the lower and higher marks in the rod.
I'm using 10W-30 (Valvoline) from UniMo continuing same as the previous owner.
During the last service i used the loose oil instead of the sealed can since previous owner had done the same way also when i asked UniMo tech guys assured me its the same oil with same quality but only one is priced higher due to extra packing.
I don't observe any oil leaks or any unusual smoke coming out of exhaust. And my drive patterns does not include major traffic congestions. Just 100+KM  trips twice a week and then 10Km drive once a day.
If the lower mark is 0% and higher mark is 100%, my levels are currently at 15%. Most articles say there will be some engine burn but could not find anything related to a lancer.

Do you think its normal for a car with 125k mileage to burn out 85%(within makers) of oil? and how's your ladies behaving?

Also what do you think about using the unpacked engine oil?

    Thanks

Mine at 174,000kms now and not burning oil at all. Using  Valvoline 10W30 plus Mitsubishi genuine oil filter (As the change is done at Unit#d Mot#rs). I too have opted for the can instead of loose oil.

Burning 85% of oil is a serious issue. My previous lancer even at 225,000kms didnt burn oil.

Are you sure that there are no leaks?

My advice to you is to get this checked ASAP through a proper mechanic. Drop me a PM about where you are located. If you live nearby to my mechanics place, I'll share the details with you and get an appointment with him. I'm going there this weekend to get my ATF changed and engine tuned. If possible you can bring the car during that time.

Didn't you get your OEM cooler replaced once back in 2019? I mean Tzars gazettes last longer than your AC coolers. What the hekk are they made out of, Swiss Dodol?

Yes man.. the replacement was an aftermarket one which obviously is less durable. All the more reason why I wanted to go for an original at that time. unfortunately I couldn't get a one. Those guys said that these coolers will last about two years at the time of installing. This was confirmed by the Agent as well. Apparently since the Genuine one is too damn expensive now, most go with these aftermarket parts.

The cooler has lasted about 45,000kms. Anyways, I do have a bitter history with coolers as you pointed out. Lets see how this will turn out.

  18. Small heads up on few coming maintenance work,

    1. The Auto Gear oil change is due now. I've shared the details about the previous instance in this thread before. Will update the details of prices to get a comparison.
    2. Engine tune-up - will share the details if something new comes up.
    3. Need to replace the horn. I think one is busted. Now the horn sounds like a horn of a scooter. Thinking of putting a set of BOSCH Europa horn. Yes, yes, too loud and not suitable for a sedan, but I'm fed up with these lane hogging morons who wont give way. Need the big guns to chase them off. f**k em!!!

    Two repairs are also due.

    1. Looks like AC cooler is busted. Noticing a hissing sound from inside the dashboard and gradual reduction of cooling.
    2. Need to replace the rear brake cylinders as the repair kit has had its time.

Here's some captures of Mylady 😁

Tried adding on my profile and link it here since i didn't want to spoil the thread but could find such a option.

Car was almost in stock condition when i bought. Since then i've add below mods

    1) Spoiler (Fiber) - 14K with paint from Sampath Stickers ( had to redo the paint job with another 3K). Original plastic spoiler would cost around 85K.

    2) Paint alloy wheels with gloss black and calipers with red - 3K for paint job (local shop). Before this 16'' stock alloy wheel were silver color. I'd love to go disc brake on rear wheels but as any once done that on a Ex? and how costly would it be

    Car1.jpeg

She is a beauty. Black on Black interior rite? Being a newer model than mine, car has the wheels of newer design. From where did you find the spoiler? I too am looking for a one. Not this variant though. I need the one that came to the Lancer specifically (Not the Evo version). Please share the contact details if they have more spoilers.

Treat the car well, she will not disappoint you. Mine is a daily runner and now clocked almost 175k, still she is like the day I bought her three years ago.

    CV Joint replacement

    Hello Gents!

Here's my story short. I've been a Toyota car owner for 5 years and decided to give a chance to car enthusiastic inside me to go for a Lance ex. So i've done it (special thanks for wife's approval :) ) and now I'm a proud owner of 2014 Lance Ex . I've bought the car 2 months back with 121K mileage on it. It was with 2nd owner and most of the running repairs were completed. So far its been a pleasant experience with the car for me. However i am missing the low maintenance cost on my Toyota given that i'm tight on budget after insurance payment and all.

Going  back to the thread, Kudos to everyone who started this and your information helped a lot for me. So it felt like my duty to add back my experience here so one day it will be useful for someone :)

One month after i bought the car, heard some *tuku tuku noise on hard slow cornering. Initially thought it was from front shocks but as per one of relation who owns are garage told me it was definitely the CV. I had him inspected the joint, previous owner has replaced the boots but not the joints. I wanted the change the as soon as possible since I'm driving long distance often & sometimes in windy roads.

He (my relation) told me that there would be spares to be easily found ,but without knowing the inner no of teeth's/groves its hard to find the exact part. So i found this thread and found that @trinity has mentioned the exact outer and inner groves of the CV. But as per what i read his was CY2 where as mine was CY1 and the Mitsubishi part numbers were different for the two models

    CY2: 3815A169/3815A170

    CY1: 3815A454/3815A459

So i had no choice other than cutting open the cv to check the inner groves, for my luck/unluck its the same grove number as CY2, so i called WIMAL MOTORS MORATUWA where Trinity got his and guess what!, they dont have the part in stock. They checked with their supplier  & informed me they would get the part within two weeks and it will cost more than 20K for once piece.

I called UniMO and yes it is still correct, they dont have the "CV joint only" they only do the front axle replacement which cost 187K for once side. so for both sides it should be close to 400K with service charges. Well well well! at that point i though no way im going to pay my honest money to these buggers no matter what and decided to go for ordering the part from FEBEST (part number 0410-CY2) special thanks to @Hyaenidaefor the link and part number. But guess what!, you are correct trinity these things don't work out easily in car business, that's not how it happens lol.

So FEBEST guys got my VIN and said the mentioned part did not match my vehicle :( . Now i had no where else to go. I had already contacted almost all the part shops in Sri Lanka and non the part matching my car. Then i was looking for a reconditioned part and  reconditioned parts almost don't exist for this vehicle.

Now with my car in garage for two days i was getting tensed and started  measuring the dimensions of the removed CV joint and just like that It was exactly matching the description provided by FEBEST. So at this point i had to take a chance either to wait for WIMAL motors to get the part and do it myself. I took a chance, went with my instincts and ordered the part, they shipped via DHL express.

    2 x CV joint with boot/greese/rings : LKR 16000

    DHL Charges: LKR 14000

Taxes :D : LKR 22000 (with extra DHL charges for documentation)

I got the part within 9 days of order placement and this mostly depend on the time taken for custom clearance in Sri Lanka.

I was so nervous(couldn't sleep lol) until the part reached here and i wanted it to match dearly. My chance paid off and it was a exact match (sigh!!!!). I replaced both my joints, altogether it cost me around LKR 60000 for the whole job.

    Summary

    CV joint for CY1 & CY2 are same (Inner teeth = 30 / Outer teeth = 28/ Diameter = 59.5 mm)

So that's my tale! hope someone find this information usefull!

Oh! and almost forgot. Original CV joint had 8 balls and the new ones only had 6 balls. That was one of the reason i decided to change both joints.

Noticed from the photos that there were only 6 balls in @trinity's new CVs as well, given that you have changed only once side, have you noticed any difference or issue with running on 6 ball CV?

    Thanks

Wow, what a thrill ride of a story you've shared @De_ja_vu. Reading this gave me 100 times more thrills than watching F9. I'm glad the information you found in this thread helped you to solve out the issue and thought you few lessons on maintaining a car you hold dear to your heart. This was the intention I had when creating this thread.

As Hyundai 😜 rightfully said, you will surely cherish this experience for a long time and I'm sure you now feel more appreciative of the car and proud about the bold decision taken to import the part.

With regard to the the question you've asked about the difference count of the bearing balls, I've noticed that only after you've pointed that here. And can confirm that this has not made any difference in driving dynamics of the car.

As @iRage requested, it is customary to share the photos of the car and if available photos taken during the repair. So don't keep us waiting to see the gal behind the story 🙂.

Finally, thank you for sharing your experience, which I'm sure will help many more EX owners in years to come.

    Cheers!!!

    5.Rear Brake Cylinder Washer Replacement

After almost 9 years the washers of the rear brake cylinders had busted. I noticed a small reduction of brake oil level and asked the agent to check it while doing the wheel alignment as i know that the issue would be this. And  I was right.

Yesterday got the repair done at Unit#d Mot#rs - Orugodawatte.

Not going to post much details as all info is available in this post made by Hyundai :P . However I was charged Rs.8,358/- for the job> Will check the bill when I get back home and update here.

    Edit with the price details

    Labor Cost -                                       3,450/-

    Cup+Boot Kit  * 2 -                         2,677/78

Mitsubishi Genuine Brake Fluid - 1,611/30

     Vat -                                                    619/12

    Total -                                               8,358/20

So in comparison to what @Hyaenidae paid, the labor cost is slightly higher but the parts are slightly cheaper.

They've done a full brake oil flush as well. Wonder why it wasn't done when yours were replaced @Hyaenidae

The price difference is the brake fluid and the vat.

Update on this, during the last service I was informed that the cylinders are leaking again. Just one year after spending 8k for this. f**k me!! However I've driven 27,000kms since the repair. Now the car is at 167,000 and this has been done at 140,000kms. As most of these kilometres were driven in city the brakes are employed exorbitantly. So I presume under regular driving conditions these would've lasted much more.

Anyways, there's no repairing now. I need to replace the entire cylinders. These are expensive at the agent and even expensive to import. If any of you have a source who has these, I appreciate the heads up. Gonna run like this as the leakage is not severe. Eventually have to replace them.

@Hyaenidae& @K.o.N.o.S keep a close eye on your brake cylinders as well. You Never know when they go bust again.
