Im back! What did I miss?
-
Don't think you've missed much. I login from time to time and see the active threads and go "nope" and logout. 😆 Not a single technical thread or a resto going on. Apart from what @matroska mentioned, I guess everyone has moved on to mainstream social media which has made traditional forums like this a bit quiet. AutoLanka is not the first forum that I've seen this happen to. I'm a part of many other forums and it's dead quiet in most of them.
Also... why am I now a "newbie" again? An update has screwed up the badges by the looks haha!
Anyway, I wonder what we can do to boost up engagement a bit. Maybe start an interesting poll or thread.
@iRage, I can announce of my new (well old) acquisition. That might bring some old souls back onto the forum. 😉

Just wondering why the updated topics dont come on the main page like it used to.
-
Definitely not working because the threads that I posted in today are not there.
I rarely visit the AL homepage. I simply go to forums.autolanka.com and directly land on the Forums homepage which has a button to show unread content. Saves a few clicks.

I'm wondering what went through the heads of the marketing team at Nissan when they were naming the Nissan DayZ, "Lets call it Daisy, like a flower! But no young male adult would like to drive in a car named after a flower so we'll just swap the S to a Z to be cool" *Flashbacks to school when we would write Rockz next to our name on the desk*. Honestly everytime I see the name DayZ I can only think of the Zombie game

Gentlemen the Allion Premio group is fun again! Head over if you want some cheap entertainment.

Hi, quick question, what's the cheapest and best tyre for Vitz (165/70/R14)?

My Montero Sport Saved my life today.
Took a T bone collision to the rear quarter panel, from a lorry, the thing came straight to the drivers door. I accelerated and saved my self, just got discharged from the hospital after a checkup,
No matter what new fellas say about crumple zones and what not, this thing is proper weight to weight. Just realise how strong these suvs are. Just a large bump and I drove it home. Amazed realising it took tg awhile weight and was shoved to a side.
The lorry was a proper mahiyangana sand lorry, full load, the c**t was driving on a learners permit, couldn't control his reverse into the construction zone, lost control and rolled right onto me down a slope, face first. If I was in my vitz or a smaller car, I'd be in a morque now.
Cops took over the lorry momentarily but I deferred them.
Repair cost approx 100k, given I need a new wheel arch and tail light. And its pearl white, expensive bitch to paint.
Despite my parents and friends deciding to ruin his life legally, the driver is in the hospital after negotiations but I am not pressing charges or taxing him for the repair, as he will loose his livelihood and be in jail.
Best part is, if the car rolled over, I would be in the mahaweli river.
Dear friends, please give up smaller cars when money permits. Get something large and safe.
Due to privacy concerns I am unable to share pictures.

Nice! It's the best Rally simulator out there right now IMO. The original DiRT Rally was very difficult, but DiRT Rally 2 has more realistic physics.
You need at least a mid level steering wheel to enjoy the game at its fullest though. Suggest you get a G29 if you are into sim racing. You won't regret it. ?

Any one has replaced side mirror glass only without the full set? How the quality and accuracy of the local mirrors. Where to get done?
-
Did once at Darley Road. Was okay and pretty close to original. But there was a difference in size of the objects in the mirror when you compare it to the original mirror on the opposite side of the car. At least in my case. But you won't notice unless you look really closely. I did and I couldn't stop seeing the difference and my OCD got the best of me. So ordered a replacement mirror (just the glass) from eBay.
Charges to cut the mirror was around 550 back in 2012 or so. Was a 15 minute job.

Can someone tell me why we have a bunch of spammers popping up?
-
Probably Chinese hackers now bored after being in containment at home and looking for random websites to spam.
But seriously, we get spammers all the time, and moderators delete and ban members as soon as we see them. It does seem like there have been quite a few during the past couple of weeks.@MADZ, have there been any changes in the forum registration process lately? It's been a while since I registered, so I'm not sure how it happens now, but I assume there is an email verification step before people are allowed in?
We encourage members to use the "Report" button (on the bottom of each post) to report them as soon as you see them.

Has anyone here played either DriveClub or Project Cars 2?
-
Agree with what @□AVANTE□ said. The last NFS I played was NFS Most Wanted. Lost interest in the game after that because handling and physics was becoming too arcade-like. I'm more into simulation, and I play a lot of Rally Games.
The best Rally game that came out recently IMO is Dirt Rally 2.0. It's an absolute masterpiece when it comes to physics, handling, car tuning and most importantly, breathtaking stages. The original Dirt Rally had it's quirks and really difficult to play (reminds me of Richard Burns Rally - so much realism). But Dirt Rally 2.0 is so much better. You really need a good steering wheel setup to play it though.
Make sure you watch this on 1080p @ 60fps

Effin' pickup driver reversed onto the rear bumper while I was parked ???
Luckily the damage is minor, I'm on two minds whether or not to get the bumper repainted or leave it as it is
-
Missing out on activity on the forum these days as I'm preoccupied with family matters. Sorry to see the damage, but that's not a big deal IMHO. Just touch it up and don't bother painting the entire bumper. Painting over the original paint for a scratch as small as this is just not worth it.
I'm not sure if my eyes are deceiving me, but I don't see any exposed metal. When clear coat is scratched, it does turn white or an opaque colour. So might be that?
Since you've already touched it up, now use a light cut and polish to remove the roughness of the touch up paint. Do the same for the bumper as well. This will minimise the "untidy" appearance of the touch up paint because it will cut down the paint to the level of the paint of the car.

Hi @Davy
I think you would not mind if I share an advert and expect your advice.
I test drove this https://######.lk/en/ad/mazda-demio-2010-for-sale-gampaha-17 .
Exterior Body and Interior were ok according to my basic knowledge. But as per your instructions, I drove it on a rough road. I'm not confident enough regarding the rack sounds. I'm not sure weather it's a minor repair or not.
Is it possible to check this in a normal garage? I hope to check this by a technician in kandy (which I usually do my repairs). As we come from Kandy, we hope to check this issue (by raising and checking underside )from a garage around kelaniya.
what's your idea? Can we check this by Carmart or any specialised location around Kelaniya.
Your advice is highly appreciated.

Sorry for the late response. Was away from the forum for a few days as I was attending to some personal matters.
The car looks good on paper. If you don't mind spending a couple of thousand bucks, take it to CarCheks and get a full inspection done. Their reports are pretty thorough and they even check for evidence of mileage tampering as well. 70K on a car of this age is a bit suspicious.

Are there any sports cars/supercar owners in autolanka or are they not exclusive enough to join the AL club?

@Andrew_GTR @darinwrxsti @Komisiripala @fuzzo @dillongt to name a few from memory. All of them inactive now or rarely login. The forum used to be loads of fun with discussions about Katukurunda Drags and Night Races and so on. Good times.

Sorry just seeing this.
Spot on tiv! Leyland is better than TOA in my experience too.
If you apply clear coat on the wax, it'll probably drip and not stick to the headlight. You can use a pre paint cleaner to remove the wax.
After you apply clear coat, you'll have to polish it lightly to get rid of any "orange peel" texture.
