  1. Sorry to hear about the accident mate, but it's great that no one was hurt. Hope you get the insurance stuff sorted out soon. On another note, if that Demio was in Sri Lanka, it would be back on the road in a few months as if nothing had happened to it. @Ripper, I'm able to see the pics except for the last one.
  2. lol! Seriously!? But it looks to me like that's PhotoShop'd. The shade of the mirror has not fallen on the text. I might be wrong though; you never know Sri Lankan three wheeler drivers and the stuff they come up with these days. @Schiffer, yeah I think it’s a new trend. I've seen more than a few with some TOA cans or aluminum flasks connected with chrome plated tubes (hand shower pipes?) and flames and stuff pasted on them to make them look like fire extinguishers.

    Fuel Efficiency

What exactly did you mean by "normal pump gas"? Please let us know what the "abnormal" ones are so that we can avoid them. Thanks!
  4. I have a little experience with Rock because I used it on one of my old cars. The metallic black (code 205) lasted for over 8 years without any issues. Good compared to most brands available in the country. Not sure if Toyota uses it, but I’m certain that it’s manufactured in Japan. I bought the paint from a place in Negombo. There is a place in Wellawatta right in front of the Roxy cinema; they have Rock. Apart from that, the paint shops in Slave Island should be having. Maybe other members will shed some light on other places. As for the discount, you will have to find that out yourself.

    Express-Way Updates

Damn... looks like a Hyundai H100. Wonder what caused the fire.
  7. Traffic lights at Malabe gone haywire (captured last Saturday):
  8. There was a thread exactly like this created a few days back. You might want to run a search for the word "wind" instead of "air". Edit: Found it: http://forum.autolanka.com/topic/13930-how-to-find-and-fix-leaks-in-your-tubeless-tires/
  9. Any update on the tail lights? If I were you, I'd lose a lot of sleep on that.
  10. The clicking is the sound of the solenoid switch which is within the starter motor. It feeds the armature of the starter motor onto the flywheel to turn the engine. The solenoid does not require as much power as the starter motor, so I’m guessing that your battery has a little bit of power to activate the solenoid, but not sufficient enough to crank the engine. First thing to do is to get your battery and terminals checked from a battery shop or auto electrical workshop. If the battery is faulty, you might have to replace it. They should ideally check if the battery is being properly charged by the car as well. Hope this helps, Good luck!
  11. I'm sure Madz and the team will be happy seing autolanka.com on that screen.
  12. For the 4G33 engine which is 1439cc, it's 92hp @ 6300rpm as I remember.
  13. Drove my Lancer A72 on the expressway from Kottawa to Dodangoda and back a couple of times. Stuck to the speed limit most of the time but put my foot down a just once to see how far I can push it and it touched 150 km/h. The ride was fairly OK because the drive was after overhauling the engine and most steering and suspension components were new. This car has a 4 speed gearbox and the engine revs high when it catches speed.
  14. I thought as much, but wanted to know about the exact reasons and chances for it needing to be taken apart again. Thanks for the explanation!
  15. That engine sure sounds like it gives a roar even when it's idling. Great job on putting it back together MD! Maybe I missed something, but any particular reason as to why you thought of assembling it without painting and deciding to take it all apart again for the paint job?
  16. Toyota Altezza Catalog Direct Download Link (PDF): http://www.4shared.c...a-3_200208.html [Thanks for the PDF c1nder] Continued to next post (exceeded max number of images per post)...
  17. Ah the "Global Team"... Worked there for over 3 years and my observation was that it became strict by the day. And as someone has already pointed out, it has to do with Information Security. The aforementioned company deals with a lot of global clients who need their IT service provider(s) to adhere to strict guidelines when it comes to dealing with their data and business processes. So they are at CMMI level 3 and adhere to most Intellectual Property and Information Security standards. As a result, they are able to label themselves as a company with high standards, thus attracting a lot of clients. I'm not aware of other local IT companies which are at CMMI level 3 or above apart from this one, so it's unlikely that most restrictions imposed by this company are followed by others as well. It is the employees who suffer great inconvenience due to these high standards and I can definitely say that this particular restriction is just one of them. There are so many rules and regulations implemented internally in order to adhere to the security standards. We can't really say whether it's a growing trend or not, if a certain company decides to adhere to some sort of information security standard, they will be compelled to implement these restrictions.
  18. I was wondering the same thing. The Dinamina news article says that it was the chassis; had a good look at the photo, and you're right - it's the bumper.
  19. I guess you’re right. Just read the Dinamina article; Who on earth would have thought that the chassis of the truck would come off? To the victims it might have felt safe at the time. It's just unfortunate.
  20. The desperate kudda boys are very smart and they use a sharp tool like a broken hacksaw blade to remove the badges because they don't care about the paint. Some idiot while trying to remove my "LANCER" badge had ended up breaking it after the "L" and left me a badge saying "ANCER" + a badly scratched trunk lid for a few months. So if you want to have the badges up, I guess the only option would be to rivet them.
  21. Oh man, that's just tragic! So there were two victims (video shows two)? Excitement aside, these kids do need to be more careful. Anyway, may the deceased rest in peace.
  22. I was under the impression that it was L light because of your post quoted above. If I were you, I'd do a clean sweep of Panchikawatta and every place I know of to get hold of a tail light set before doing any of the other modifications such as the dual carb and so on. If you fail to find a set of "Flat" tali lights, then it would be better to switch to either "L", "Tube" or the other type for which our Sri Lankans havent formed a local name. Oh and yes... drag the friend who rear-ended your car as well.
  23. Was typing an answer when Watchman's reply popped up, kind of what I wanted to say as well. amilaart, If you ever wondered how you're able to stop such a huge pile of metal just by the use of your toe on the brake pedal, you'll begin to realize that there is an underlying mechanism to assist you do the job easily. That's what Watchman's link is all about. This underlying system (servo brakes) works only when the engine is running. Therefore there is a significant difference in the pressure that needs to be applied with and without the engine running. This is normal. Since you're new to driving, I suggest you use the hand brake if your car starts to roll downhill. The hand brake works regardless of whether the engine is running or not. It comes from the intake manifold. I modified the brake system with a servo in my old Lancer and the vacuum line was fixed to the intake manifold. There was even a "tap" on the manifold to connect the line (I assume that the same manifold was used by Mitsubishi on models with servo). I think the system is different on diesels, they have a vacuum pump, not much experience there since I've never owned a diesel. I'm not sure why the brakes stopped working when the alternator got jammed though. Hope this helps.
