  1. lol. Owned by a Doplomat! haha! 4. You're the owner
  2. I'm still finding it hard to believe that it's a conversion... If so, the mod was done perfectly and it had to be finished with baby blue... some people have very strange taste.
  3. I’m assuming you meant the angle of the distributor when you said “timing is changed”. The distributor angle can’t change if the adjustment screw is fine. Check if the adjustment screw’s thread is worn out first. You might want to check the contact point adjustment screw as well. Secondly, I doubt a 1mm play makes a huge difference in timing. Besides, if all the distributors you checked had this play, then it’s probably normal. Finally, why on earth would anyone sand the distributor shaft? The shaft has to be VERY smooth and lubricated (with the special grease supplied with the contact point repair kit), and if this was greased properly, I don’t think corrosion would have happened in the first place. The rough surface on the shaft might be causing the “follower” of the contact point set to wear out soon, rising the need for re-adjustment. Just my 2 cents without actually seeing the distributor… Hope this helps.
  4. That has got to be the first air conditioned TATA 909 I've seen. Maaan...
  5. Happy to hear that you isolated the issue. And most importantly, I'm glad that you didn't go for the electric pump solution as the workaround. Good luck on this LancerL, I'd love to see some photos of this!
  6. +1 on this. I'd always advice against going for aftermarket timing belts (and equally critical engine components for that matter) unless you've got no option.
  7. There are some paint threads on the forum: http://forum.autolanka.com/topic/14034-rock-paint/page__hl__%2Brock+%2Bpaint http://forum.autolanka.com/topic/14220-low-cost-paint/page__hl__paint And forgive my ignorance, but this is the first time I'm hearing the name "Roxy". Do you mean "Rock"?
  8. That's a bit disappointing. I was thinking of going, but couldn't make it. Guess I didn't miss out much. Saw some photos on FB of what looked like a Humvee. Is that what you're referring to? Looked real indeed.
  9. I remembered a recent Top Gear episode on the E Type Jag when I read your question. Apparently a small company in the UK is manufacturing a car based on the E Type and they call it the Eagle Speedster. Let Jeremy Clarkson himself explain...
  10. Hi again guys, I’ve finally managed to find the time to paste the badges on the car and thought of finishing up the DIY. While thanking everyone for their comments and suggestions let me explain the steps I followed to paste the badges on the trunk lid. Things you need: Masking tape | A pair of scissors | A sharp blade | A marker pen | Measuring tape A small note: The most important thing for me was to paste the badges on the exact locations as they were pasted originally. Therefore I made use of the workshop manual which had clear indications on the locations on the trunk lid to the last millimeter. Might sound crazy, but I wanted it to look as neat as possible. First, clean the area using a cloth to get rid of the water, dust etc. I started to do this on a chilly morning right after it started to drizzle a bit, hence the water on the car. I’m going to paste the three diamond logo first and it goes on the middle of the trunk and 73mm (± 1mm) below the top press line of the trunk lid (as per the manual). Paste a straight line of masking tape across the top of the trunk lid. Mark the horizontal and vertical measurement points. To avoid pasting the badge even slightly rotated, we need a perfectly horizontal line. Hold the badge on the place where it will finally be pasted (as perfectly as possible), mark the lower edges of the badge on the vertical masking tapes. Now we have a horizontal line, the badge will be pasted relative to this line. Do a trial paste using masking tape. Spend as much time as possible perfecting that horizontal line and bringing the badge to the correct location. Carefully remove the tape from the 3M double sided tape on the reverse side of the badge. HOLD YOUR BREATH… Don’t tremble… Done Thanks for reading. And again... your feedback is appreciated.
  11. I think trinity is referring to what "whatever" has said about the glare from the windscreen.
  12. While this is true, there is a significant improvement when the centre rear view mirror gets out of the way. I have also not encountered a scenario where the rear light reflects from the front windscreen. I guess it can happen in vehicles were the front winscreen is almost vertical.
  13. Good one! The bugger must have felt like his rear end is on fire! This is the reason why I keep myself calm most of the times, there's always someone in the front passenger seat ready to scream as if though I am trying to kill them. lol. So I kind of release all the stress when there's no one else in the car.
  14. Looks good so far. I'm a little concerned about the balance of the wheels going haywire after this has been done. You would have to grind the extra metal from the welding and test the rims thoroughly to determine if they are in perfece balance (and not warped). Any special way of doing this?
  15. For the drivers tailing you on high beam, the convenient solution is to use the functionality of your anti-glare (center) rear view mirror. Almost all cars since the 90s have an anti-glare center rear view mirror. (Some modern cars have this for external mirrors as well.) For those who are unfamiliar with what this is...
  16. I'm not sure how I missed this thread. GTAm, Hope I'm not too late. I should recall the fact that all the variants of this model are rear wheel driven, hence the rear axel is rigid as already highlighted by others. The suspension setup is pretty basic with the front being independent strut type while having asymmetrical, semi-elliptical leaf springs at the back. As for steering, I am not aware of any of the variants having power steering, it was just a good old variable ratio steering box with recirculating ball and nut. Hope this helps. Good luck with your article!
  17. Hmm… I haven’t come across one. In my case they're those new three wheelers machang. Instead of one light on top of the front mudguard, now they have two lights mounted onto where the signal lights were. And they are directly on the eye level of an average car driver. Those things blind you for a few seconds sometimes. Some of these buggers probably don’t even know that there is a low/high beam switch. Totally agree with you. I too have a feeling that there will be certain “exceptions” when it comes to enforcing this law on the general public. Just hope this doesn’t turn out to be something like the 100km/h speed limit on the E01 where only the “high powered monkeys” are allowed to over speed.Edit: I must have been typing my reply while you posted this, saw it only after posting. So it's not just me then.
  18. If your concern is having to remove the parts again, then I can tell you that most of the parts will not get in the way of the cut and polish procedure. In fact, the initial cut and polish in my case, was done after all the parts were fixed. The only parts that were not mounted were the badges, and the windshield water sprinklers on the hood. Masking tape is used to cover the beadings and moldings so that the sand paper doesn't damage them, and to bring the polisher across the edge. As for the wait time, my painter says that a mild cut and polish can be done 24 hours after the paint job if and only if it was done inside a proper booth (and left for at a couple of hours under heat). If not, a one month wait is standard time for the paint to settle in. Even in the former case (paint booth used), a full cut and polish is done after a minimum wait of about a month.
  19. Wish you a very happy birthday Schiffer!
  20. Sorry for reviving an old thread, but this is something that I've been waiting for. Wonder how they're going to implement it. http://lankadeepa.lk.../articles/72363 English translation: Police headquarters says that they are planning on charging a fine ranging from 3000 - 5000 from drivers who continue to ride with their high beam on.
  21. I remember that someone from the forum was going to do a DIY project on getting them custom made. You might want to run a search. Edit: Found it: http://forum.autolanka.com/topic/14325-banded-steel-wheels/
  22. Three happy faces... Probably the only thing that still looks the same from that photo is the car (except for the number plate).
  23. I have a quick question: Have you changed your fuel filter by any chance? The default fuel filter comes with a non return valve inside and looks as follows:
