Yeah it’s smaller than the previous model. But with the new booster jet engines it’s apprently a fun car to drive. I also think this will be popular. It has the looks to back it up unlike the s cross.

Do not buy this if your this hesitant :) You will have to forgive this car for various things from time to time! Car like this, you have to love it to own it. When i bought my 190E i fell in love with it, didn't have proper AC, central locks didn't work cause some rats had bitten off the vacuum hoses, various other things but i didn't care and the main things i looked for was there (80% original paint, original interior and a good engine). Had to have a lot of patience and time to fix everything up, once everything was sorted it didn't give me any sort of trouble.

  7. Isnt Sikkens paint better than Debeer paint? Most workshops in SL seem to be promoting Debeer

      TheFlyingFox

It came out just fine if the painter is a “wada karu “. Using a good quality lacquer on a middle grade paint can actually make it look much better.

No, you can use a different lacquer. I have used Sikkens paint and Debeer lacquer.

i have heard that the environment needs to be indoors to paint with Debeer and Sikkens doenst have that problem. the lacquer quality also plays a major role.

@tiv Yeah true, just like the Copens and S660s. Of course the Jimny is a bit better

@Magnum Great news! I should dig into this further since there is a 660CC

Hard to believe. Old Jimmy with the 660 engines goes for like 3.5-3.8. That is with the 1000cc tax benefit. Thought the new Jimny comes only with a 1500CC engine which puts it under a heavier tax bracket. Spoke to @iRage and it apparently costs around 2.2M yen there, quite more than the old one. Put everything together and it can become expensive. If it’s in the early 4mil range I would love to jump at it :D

Oh yes, thought of selling the swift and getting one down. The prices seems to be really high cause of the tax bracket. I think it will come close to the new Civic's price. I love it's rugged looks (Some ways like a G Class :D and upgraded interior.

  14. Thinking of shifting from Honda to Mercedes Benz. Is it a wise decision ?

Handbrake is not an issue. It is where it is placed , different to other cars more like a lorry. You will get more or less what you will get with the Honda in terms of mileage. but a 2.5 5 cylinder doing 12 in traffic is kinda hard to believe. A merc maintained properly wont strand you anywhere lol. I have been all over around the country in my ancient 190E petrol and never did it give me any sort of trouble other than a fuel pump fuse once. Diesel mercs in that era is even better in terms of reliability, provided they were maintained properly. YOM I really don't know, condition matters in these old cars.

@PerfMad If you are indeed looking for a Diesel Merc of that era either go for a 2.5L inline 5 or 3L inline 6. The 2L diesels are really slow, It is not painfully slow but you really have to have patience to get it going. Also you get get used to the lorry like hand brake, clutch balance should be practiced a lot as its very difficult to use this sort of hand brake. Auto will fix that of course. Also none of them gives "pretty amazing" figures. They are know for their bullet proof reliability and not excellent economy. Economy is decent for those times though. The diesels are very noisy on the outside as well . You should also get used to the slight steering play in these cars at this age which can never be fixed. If you can forgive all this it is a very rewarding car, few cars today will live up to a good example's ride quality :)

  17. Any of you fellas have any experience with the Daihatsu Copen ? 660 hardtop convertibles

    Ideas?

The only let down with the s660 is the vinyl top

Sold it for 3.3 Mil. Why ? I got married :D. Anyway couldn't afford to keep two cars so sadly had to give up this.

If you are the right size, the car will reward you well as a weekend car! I have no experience with sports cars and the closest car i had to a sports car was a Honda GP4 around 3 years back. I can say this thing handles better than that, the steering is very precise, the car feels agile and really fun to drive! For this price, i don't think you can have more fun in any other car (Hood down or up). Only things not so great are the brakes (Maybe due to drums in the back) and the dreaded CVT gearbox (Off the line its very weak to pick up speed, after ~40kmph it really goes). I now have a Swift RS and although its quicker off the line than the copen, there is body roll around the corners and no where near as fun to drive!

Owned one a couple of months ago . Handling is brilliant. Acceleration is worse than a Aqua or FIT (Maybe due to it being CVT more than the 660cc turbo). Very bad on bad roads, great on good roads, you don't really feel the speed on a good road. Resale value, very very poor. For a second car, it is really nice! Once drove it to Nuwara Eliya where it really shines with the hood down. On those twisty roads the car just hugs the road on any corner at high speeds. Practicality wise, it has a very generous boot for a car of it's type.

The Vinyl top is not the only let down. Practicality is ridiculous on that car. The only place you can call a boot is the space where you put the folded down roof. That too is really tiny. Interior is more cramped up than the copen albeit a much better driving position for a sports car than the copen. It is of course faster and handles better, but for someone like me, sacrificing a bit on performance and getting a lot more on practicality is much better !
