  1. It's like this what you have now, a Honda I believe and a W124 are totally two different machines. It will be a fact that you will have to spend more to keep the merc in good working order as they are now quite old. But the systems are quite simple. For example the door lock mechanism runs of vaccume lines instead of electronics. If rats don't bite the lines they last a lot more than any electronic mechanism. Parts(body and mechanical) are also available at the right places like Avinda. Due to the age most common will be a bush here and there once in ~4 months. Mechanical parts, one shock for example can be had for as low as 14k brand new (certainly not at the agents) . Every time you get up in the morning and put it on the road your going to feel special. Believe me I know cause I had a 190E. Your Honda on the other hand can be worry free compared to the merc. It will be more exiting to drive opposed to a more relaxing drive. Obviously more modern creature Comforts. Other thing I can think of is that if your in a hurry to sell it for some emergency odds are that you WIl fulfill that emergency in a short time. It can be quite tricky with the merc.
  2. Less reliable than the cars which came with Bosch parts. Market value will also be less, someone who knows them will know. Sometimes A good 124 will cost as much as a w203. Try to get a diesel, original or a proper convert. They will run like a good old Toyota.
  3. I think what is is referring is to a w124. The ones with Lucas parts were assembled in India.
  4. The X is not a big cat. Rear leg room is cramped compared to a 3 series or c class in that Era. They look brilliantly gorgeous though, inside and out. Specially the one with British racing green and baige leather with wood trim. Once Upon a time I really wanted to get one of these. Their Ford engines were reliable though. Pre 2004 models had some electrical issues and water used to get in some places where there were electronics. After 2004 they were much better built and equipped. 607, make sure you find one with the 3l engine and 5 forward autobox. Other models with the AL4 gearbox is prone to reliability issues. Tyre pressure sensors go wrong all the time. I think it's by far the most comfortable out of your lot. 407 nose is too long, make sure you find one with raised front suspension ( this was done to most of them). Overall reliability of either of these cars can be tricky. Save "maybe" for the big Nissans.
  5. I said small engines. Most of them require high octane fuel to reduce or eliminate "knock". Even in higher capacity turbo engines its the same principle. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engine_knocking A turbo sends pressurized hot air forcefully into the chambers. a certain compression ratio is needed to produce the high power outputs of these small engines. Fuel quality plays a major role here, low octane fuel might not damage the engine in the long run but it will lose it's quoted power figures and get worse economy.
  6. Most small turbo engines need 95 octane fuel regardless of it being Japanese or not. If it didn't have a turbo then 92 would be fine unless your manual says otherwise.
  7. If you want to keep the warranty i suggest you follow the instructions of the card you got. I got a car with Autocom warranty and it clearly says to service the car at Laugxx at the first 1000kms or the warranty wont be valid. I wanted to service it at the agents instead of what the warranty card stated. So i ended up servicing it at the agents and recently i had a premature failure of some bushes and they refused to honor the warranty. Personally i would rather maintain the vehicle at the agents than mess it up at some other place, but you might want to keep the warranty which came with the car. Up to you Normally for peace of mind servicing it after the break in period is good (~1000-1500kms on the odo form 0).
  8. Hi Guys, I have also got this letter a couple of days ago. Any advice regarding this is highly appreciated. I'm technically employeed overseas but staying here.
  9. The stock headlamps are LED, the Fogs are halogens, however i upgraded the fog lamp bulbs to Osram fog breakers.
  10. Yeah machan, both models (Safety and without) came with the original bird eye view camera system. Its an optional extra i believe. The car i got has the safety features but without the 360 camera system. I fitted a 3rd party 360 system locally. There is a big difference in quality however. The original system shipped with the car is of very high quality compared to the cheap systems they fix here.
  11. Still going strong :). I only put it in heavy rain so far in the night. You can search for 13" Led light bar 36W. It will cost 25-35$
  12. Lovely to hear that you appreciate good music ! All the speakers you have mentioned are made in China but genuine provided you buy them from a reputable place. Petxx , bxrx are some I know who has genuine stuff. I think the JBL s for 13k are three way ? To get the most of those speakers you might want to invest in an amp as they have built in crossovers to filter three separate frequency ranges. This filtering process absorbes quite a bit of power that is supllied to the speakers. The prices quoted seems to be genuine. The pioneers and Kenwood's are economical compared to JBL. If you can it is better to get them off the US.
  13. Depends on the speakers. There are decent pioneer car speakers as well but I haven't seen them in SL. If your talking about the cheap ones which are like 5 or 7k a pair then yes there is a diffinete difference. That too depends on what type of music you listen , if you listen to music where "real" instruments and voices are used then you will appreciate the difference, if you listen to today's music majority being boom boom , fake instruments, artificial voices then no , you will not find a difference.
  14. If both are 6 inches you can use them for the front as well. You should tune the setup so that the rear passengers will hear the sound coming from the front. Normally a good set does this "for" you. Most new ones come with time alignment anyway. Its not that JBL, Infinity, Rockford ,pioneer or whatever you put doesn't produce bass. It depends on the door design of certain cars, Sometimes when you install JBL (more power and wider frequency than the pioneers and kenwoods you get) and maybe infinites the whole door vibrates and its difficult to hear bass or midrange. Also these speakers will never be able to produce low frequencies like a sub. adding a sub wont give you more bass per say, it will produce more notes in the low frequency range (which the 6"s or 6.5"s cant) provided you put the cut off at ~50-80Hz. I don't think you can just go to a shop and buy Bose speakers. They cater speakers as factory fitted options to premium cars. Tweeters can be easily found in SL , so many varieties as well.
  15. I got it done from A*W attidiya as it is close to my residence. Don't quote me, they quoted 35k but got it done for 25k. One may be able to do it much cheaper at another place but obviously A*W being the agent use equipment to put everything together precisely.
  16. Update Sorry for bumping an old thread just wanted to give a update for this problem. This is caused because the bushes in the steering rack doesn't support the road conditions in SL. The agents can repair it , the take the rack apart and replace 3 bushes on it (two on the edges and one on the steering motor area. They also check the steering angles with some specialized equipment. Once the rack is fitted back to the car they reset the steering position. 6 months warranty is given and they also say the new bushes are suited for SL.The problem can occur on miledges as low as 2000kms. i got the symptoms at 4500kms.
  17. Correct .DCT has two clutches to handle even and uneven gears. Example , 1st gear is handled by one clutch and 4th is handled by the other. During unexpected acceleration , say your on 5th and you floor it, the computer selects the best gear depending on the load. If it senses the car needs 3rd gear it will take off the clutch and engane in 3rd. It doesn't have to go 5-4-3 like a conventional auto (someone correct me) which has a little delay. Even changing from 5th to 4th takes considerably (in gear change time terms) more time than a DCT. I don't know the technical know how to explain why that is , but I have driven the vezel, Grace and have owned a GP5. All of those cars have the same DCT gearbox. In all situations, normal driving conditions , unexpected flooring , uphill , downhill,g gearchangers were much faster than any type of "other" auto. Have driven a couple of Audi's with a DCT and they too have the same characteristics. Using paddle shifters will of course give you some spirited driving experience in a car like this.
  18. DCT - It has two clutches. When your driving one clutch is engaged and the other is already spinning to select a gear. When it is on 5th for example, if you floor it the second clutch will select a gear intelligently within milliseconds. What your saying is correct in conventional autos. Touque converter / automated manuals. Even CVTs are a lot slower than DCTs @iRage if you could explain further
  19. For some reason I really like these old school fuel/temp gauges a lot more than the new ones.
  20. Most good brand new speakers needs some time to "burn in". You can't take into consideration 1000kms like an engine. Sometimes if you drive them in moderate volume for about a week they should sound their best. What you will notice first is more bass. Then the highs and mids starts to sound less harsh and more balanced. I swapped the cheap original ones which came with the car for some infinities and after a week or so they came alive. Edit : I have a different car though
  21. Congratulations Machan !! Now less status updates perhaps ?
  22. Seems like you want to get a new car. Spacia custom turbo is also quite nice in terms of a Kei. I think you can also get a Fiesta unregistered for that sort of price, probably a bit more with cruise. If your looking second hand , there are good options as well. As members stated. The GP1 is a very good car. GP5 (keep In mind on the premature wear on the clutch) . The rare GP4 if you want to sacrifice economy and comfort (on bad roads ) in exchange for performance , a smile on your face ☺
  23. Peugeot to Alfa ? Kabalen lipata ?
  24. I don't think the vast majority who buys SUVs use them off-road lol. They will go in a Prado,Pajero or whatever it is to yala and still use one of those rented jeeps , probably due to the paint being scratched for tree branches. I think No 2 and 3 will be more or less the same , just personal preference other than one being a diesel. No.1 is smaller, different league, should have worry free ownership since it's new.
