  1. Peugeot 307. I will start with the cons this car , there are “more” electrical components instead of mechanical components for functions like the throttle for example. It is a electric motor which drives the power steering fluid instead off a pully on the engine. What this translates is that there is a lot to go wrong in this car. Parts are rare and because of this they have high demand. Some parts will fetch insane prices while some will be reasonable. This also has the same AL4 auto gearbox which has a track record of failing frequently. Power steering oil, auto gearbox oil , very expensive. The blaupunkt CD changer brakes all the time. The good , it is well equipped, for that time things like a trip computer was a big thing. Most models comes with climate control. It is very very comfortable for it’s size. Very stable at high speeds. Decent pickup with the 1.6 engines while the 1.4 engines provide better economy. 5 people can travel in very good comfort. Boot space is generous. Since it is your first euro think about getting a nice 206. They are not as complicated and have much better reliability. This too suffer from the AL4 auto gearbox but if you get a manual you can overcome this. It is also a very comfortable car for its size. It is much More fun to drive than the 307, especially the manual one. Although it’s not fast (in the real world) with the 8 valve engines , one gets a feeling of accelerating very fast , maybe due to the short gearbox. Cons , the rear suspension is a bit complicated. It has a bar like thing which houses all the razors etc. rarely does it go wrong but when it does you have the replace the whole bar which can cost quite a lot. Rear passenger space is cramped. Most cars come with winder windows in the rear. The meter board has a tendency to go wrong and the speed meter has its own magic of working and not working. The 206 is a lovely little car if you can find one from a genuine owner who took proper care of it.
  2. I have already mentioned on things like comfort in my first post mate. Sound is something least discussed hence why I had a comment about it. It is not only about the audio equipment they use in euros , most of them have a woofer, midrange speaker and a tweeter separately , quite often the midrange is forcussed on another direction off the woofer to highlight it’s capable frequencies. Only a few people will appreciate proper sound. So so is this what you guys do ? Edit: A typical Japanese car on the other hand has a cheap tweeter and a equally cheep 2 way speaker, quite often weighing around a average Kandos chocolate bar. While 2 way or 3 way speakers design are economical and efficient , it also sacrifices SQ. Also there is something about the door design as well. The bass of the Japanese cars have this muddy and hallowness where most of these euro cars have precise "just right" tight bass. Even if you spend a lot on audio gear and replace everything , it will still be short in certain areas , sometimes the highs may sound harsh, sometimes the mids etc etc. also the time and effort to get it tuned applying all the settings under the sun. it won’t be as balanced or as pleasing to the ear as a euro design. Even the cheap Fiesta I had had far superior sonical experience to any of the japs i have been in including the ones which had a factory Rockford Fosgate audio system.
  3. Congratulations @Stryker!! Good choice ! Btw apologies for making your thread this long. Seems like you like sonical quality. Yes the sound system of most of these cars are worlds apart from the Japanese. Very balanced lows, mids and highs, You can hear all the instruments in a good song with one is these cars, soundstage is brilliant. Enjoy the nice lady ?
  4. Of course ?. Btw I took the liberty and checked the Jaguar service prices at the agents. ~60k for a diesel XF and ~45k for a old X Type.
  5. I don’t see why what I said was wrong , I mentioned a Jaguar and a Peugeot. Bother the x type gearbox and the AL4 gearbox has lifetime gearbox oil from the factory. If you don’t change it , atlesst in this sort of climate it becomes a lot dirty and start giving problems. Where in the world did I say that the Japanese don’t ? I simply was answering a question where the member was stating that a Japanese cars gear oil changers are “more” expensive and the euro cars don’t need this sort of change. I guess you also agree with this so no problem.
  6. 1. Alright if you say so not to worry about the color of normal oil. 2. I don’t worship anything. I talk on behalf of the people who wants Toyota’s because there nothing wrong with it. It is indeed their requiement. Nothing to frown upon them or laugh at them. 3. I said it it simpler than Other euros , namely BMW or Mercedes for example. Also the x type borrowed the platform from the mondeo. It didn’t use everything the mondeo did. ford engine , yes some ford buttons on the dash but it was a lot reliable then the mondeo. At the time of its launch I knew 2 people who bought them. Non of them were favorable. 5. Exactly that is you. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. But for someone with a different requirement of selling at a good price, it’s good if you can respect that.
  7. Crosswind that is your experience. I too like you change cars quite often. Namely, Mini , Peugeot 206(Auto), Peugeot 307 , Peugeot 406, Peugeot 206( Manual) , Suzuki Liana, Audi A4 1.9Tdi, Volvo S60 2.0T, Ford Fiesta, Honda GP5, Honda GP4, Suzuki Wagon R ,Mercedes 190E, Daihatsu Copen. As as you see majority of my experience comes from Euros. Peugeot’s by far has been the least realible. The Volvo and Audi follows , the ford since it’s new didn’t give me any trouble. The Japanese on the other hand none of the cars gave na any sort of trouble. I too adore euros too for their engineering and abilities but for someone who doesn’t have experience or someone who has been using Japanese cars I will never recommend a euro. They are just too costly to maintain and you lose quite a lot when selling , if you are in a cash urgency then your might as well put a bank loan cause it is faster than waiting for your euro to sell.
  8. Alright my bad, didn’t know you can run for such Long periods with normal oil, just curious how does the oil look after 10k? I also didn’t have any repairs for my Firsta other than the shocks (which was covered by warranty). A ford can be much simpler than the other euros. This also depends on the model , for example people at the agents don’t have good things to say about the Kuga. Do you remember the time when the mondeo which came here ? Quite often hearing cases of it catching fire. You bought the ford for something like 4.5 mil -5.5 mil ? How much is it asking now ? Another person gets a similar year cheaper axio and how much is it asking now ? You have had trouble free ownership , enjoyed driving it and I wish you will have the same for years to come ! Euros have their merits and weaknesses as well , weakness being quite often losing a substantial amount of money , either in maintaining or selling. This might not be your requirement but it is of the vast majority. They are indeed better cars , that is for the people who will make use of their abilities.
  9. Also not quite. What I have observed is that when someone asks of a comparison between a Toyota and a Euro , usually the Toyota is being bashed and laughed upon and for the people who use them and the list goes on. It’s like a cult in certain ways , people should also look at needs and wants. People also can comment with pros and cons equally.
  10. My goodness no ?. I do not wish to take this on with you as all you can do is point -> shoot. If you really think that majority of the people fall into a and b then I really do feel sorry for you. You are the authority of automobiles in Sri Lanka and a and b should change everything accordingly ?. Also You should know that I have absolutely nothing personal against you , exchanging words on a online forum Edit : being judgmental on a product and being judgmental on people are completely two different things. Oh anyway , what is the point of all this , we live a short life , Good night. ?
  11. You have a tendency to shoot like a machine gun without a target. Try to be more of a sniper ?I was answering his question when he said that euros don’t need to change oil necessarily when the Japanese do and much more expensive. Euro auto tranny oil is cheap is it ? Especially for those advance ZF units ?
  12. No problem ? My bad I was also under the impression that it costed 13k but he was giving me a overall figure. The labor will come down overall as TL offers him labor free services as you mentioned. I took photos of the actual invoice and that was it, I didn’t see a vat component. The cost for the Jag is impressive , I think it being British is more economical than the Germans.
  13. Alright, so I made the mistake of forgetting about the handbook, but what I have stated is in line with your book. In this climate to have a shorter oil change interval. I didn't need a book to tell me that, its common sense. The book of the swift says to run 10k on full synthetic, being a JDM it wont have a clause as the Ford but I change it on a shorter interval anyway Btw do you have the one which came with the Sunroof and 17" wheels ? Loved that car back in the day but couldn't afford it. Anyone else got tired of the match after the hat trick ?
  14. Not our country. These reports , what Srilankan people think , their expertise and experience , none of them matters in this forum. The common man is frowned upon, rude and sarcastic at times for people who want answers, a good old doctor who buys a premio or axio for his liking is a fool and the list goes on and on, instead the doc should think about something which the forum likes. That said there are few others who are genuinely interested in helping one another without being biased or being judgemental with a nice touch of humor if I should add. This is what I have come across in my short tenure over here ?. Don’t know if I will be expelled now ?
  15. Agreed , also gray imports mainly come from the UK. Tailored for their climate. Time will only tell how they will fare in ours. Even if you buy a model which is released by the agents , like a Q2 for example, they won’t allow you to service it at their premises.
  16. Mate, most Euros like Jaguars and Peugeots etc stated their auto boxes have life long oil which doesn't need to be changed. Look where they ended. They might survive in their respective climates but not here.
  17. I don't have much trust on agents when it comes to these matters mate, I used to have a Daihatsu Copen. Fully maintained at the agents. When I brought it in, although the handbook said specifically to use 5W-30 oil the gentleman at the agent told me to put 0W-20. Why I asked " Its good for our climate condition". Little that he knows that a turbo engine heats a lot more than a NA engine, higher the viscosity, the oil would handle high temps better. Along with our hellish condition using a lower viscosity oil can break at high temps and ruin the engine in the long run, the turbo unit will suffer first with insufficient lubrication. Even for a stingray turbo the recommended oil is 5W-30 and for the non turbo variant its 0W-20.
  18. As I recall it specified only the type of oil (viscosity) for the condition, not how much it can run from it. One of our company directors use a Discovery, although the book said 15k intervals after about 50k mileage he started to change it every 10k. Anyway it's certainly up to the individual , changing oil a bit early is not going to hurt anything, especially in this climate.
  19. I think the Euros have such long intervals mainly due to the premium oil which they use. Intervals are what the book says without taking into consideration things like very high rate of stop and go traffic , harsh climate, dust etc etc. If one puts premium oil to Japanese cars they can also go for long intervals. I personally use Mobile 1 5W-30 and although it can run for 10k I tend to change it every 7.5k.
  20. Will PM you in the evening , meeting my friend EDIT : Hi Mate, Please find the attached invoices. He had given me a overall monthly figure which was 13k. Each service varies between 6k ,9k, 13k, 14k, 16k. Looping @peugeot407@iRage
  21. Wow , a member stated that comparisons like this are done only in Sri Lanka. I guess it’s also the only country where European cars are easier to maintain than the Japanese ?
  22. The added peace of mind of having some ground clearance will vanish. An important aspect in SL. Tech features of the Civic might not be the right reasons to change. As other members have stated if you really want to upgrade get a CRV.
  23. I think it’s humor more than an insult. The fuel ⛽️ figures you claim are outrageous. GP5 owner sometime ago.
  24. Mate I gave that example on the type R civic which has a lot more firm suspension than either the Audi or Mazda. I agree that the Audi overall is much better than the Mazda as a drivers car.
  25. iRage , maybe you can’t process things I say, my English is not good as yours I admit, maybe that’s why. . Maintenance is not just oil changers I know. It’s the overall services , repairs. I never mentioned that I know better than you , on the contrary , I have always mentioned your knowledge and experience in a number of my posts. I meant it as a compliment and not as a joke or sarcasm. You seem to think otherwise. S60 shock was at a 3rd party place and if you said that the mark II shock will cost the same then I don’t have anything to say. Anyway, knowledge and theory won’t alone make everything right. You need experience as well. But if you say that maintaining a euro and Japanese will cost more or less the same I will accept that I’m wrong and your correct no problem ! I have stated my experience. So I hope most people will drive euros than Japs in the future. I will get a TL invoice tomorrow and get the other members who asked for proof on the service cost ?
