  1. Citroen, bumping this to find out what happened? Steering problems have been fairly well reported in North American Sorento's 2011/12. Just wanted to know if this was fixable and if anyone else knows Sorento having steering problems in SL. I'm looking at one .. hence the inquiry.
  2. It's on pre-order in the play store now (maybe not visible in Sri Lanka) $ 649 for 32 GB and $699 for 64GB.
  3. re-posting a question from another thread; does anyone know a garage/mechanic/forum member who has an "ABS sensor pinpoint tester"?
  4. Does anyone know a garage/mechanic/forum member who has an "ABS sensor pinpoint tester"? I have an issue with either my hub or the ABS sensor wiring harness - need to find out which without replacing the hub.
  5. If you consider fuel economy, probably yes. But you can get a bigger and better specc'd korean (crossover) SUV for similar prices. Specially the petrol variants.
  6. As fookie said above, we should be glad that Mazda is last on these people's lists - we get to drive those superior cars without the market pressure on pricing (well we're at a disadvantage when it comes to disposing/upgrading, but the driving-owning pleasure accumulated over the years, kind of makes up for that!)
  7. Well isn't Nexus 6 priced at $650 for 32GB and $ 700 for the 64GB? For me, the N6 is tad too big and a tad too pricey but if you compare with the apples and samsungs, it's massive value for the spec. The screen and the camera is going to be an absolute charm. Incidentally, I was reading below at geek.com yesterday; <quote> There are unfortunate costs associated with these business practices. Take OnePlus, for example. Their smartphone is an exquisite piece of hardware with some spectacular software onboard that you can’t just walk into a store and buy, and likely never will. OnePlus sells their phone at just about cost, and as a result can only afford to manufacture the device in small batches. Their “invite” system for purchasing is the result of this business practice, and on top of making the phone hard to purchase it makes the phone hard to replace. Ask someone who has replaced aOnePlus One how the warranty experience worked out for them, and get ready for a 20 minute sob story of how the process took weeks and in many cases required a second $350 charge on their card while the mess was sorted. Google has a little more flexibility than OnePlus due to having much deeper pockets, but at the end of the day this is where that race to the bottom leads. Motorola’s Nexus 6 is sold significantly above cost. We don’t know exactly how much yet, but much like the Galaxy Note 4 and the iPhone 6 there will be at least $200 in profit made on each smartphone. This means Motorola can pay for things like future research and development, support personnel for when you call in with a problem, and cover marketing costs for this device. Much like Apple and Samsung, Google and Motorola aren’t “lining their pockets” by charging more than the bill of materials for their smartphone. The Nexus 6 has more costs associated with it than just building the phone and putting it in a box, and even beyond those costs it really is alright for these companies to make a little money off of the hardware they are selling you. Nexus fans will need to recalibrate their expectations a little, but in return you get a lot more than just a cheap piece of hardware if you do. </quote>

Really, you can get Pirelli 15"s for 11.5k? Wouldn't mind knowing from where. TIA
  9. I second what rashmikad said. This sort of system will take extensive testing before being implemented. I'm sure it's a pretty good job and they made the SW based on the data and footage provided by the Highway authorities .. the biggest variable they need to tackle will be how they would treat overtaking vehicles differently. Before you make a call on the speed or the lane assignment of a vehicle, you would need to know if the vehicle has recently (time frame to be defined, say within 10s) overtaken another vehicle OR is about to overtake another vehicle (in the next 5s). Even if 100% of expressway is covered with CCTV capable of providing a seamless tracking of every single vehicle, getting above right is quite tricky. Afaik, cops have never copped anyone for reaching 105 while overtaking another vehicle travelling at ~95 - I could be wrong. And since I've dealt with moving image processing a bit, I can safely say that computing resources needed to accurately track all 1,000 (say) vehicles in the expressway simultaneously is NOT 'any ordinary computer'. But kudos for the guys - hope they get to take this to next level.
  10. Forgive my ignorance, but who's that dude with twin earrings? He seems to be driving all the bloody fast cars I've seen - be it AMS, UGR or HKS tuned
  11. Even though I said I'd love to see VET and ALO in the same car - I now realized that it would take a team with deeeeeeeeep pockets and a team principal with steel balls to realize that! Don't think McLaren has the dough, don't think Ferrari has the balls ... so What do you guys think of closed cockpit cars as being touted by some in F1 circles. I don't think they offer a real solution to driver safety in a crash like Bianchi's, plus will add more issues to contend with;
  12. Well both Vettel's and Fernando's destinations are bit in the dark even now isn't it? The vibes in the F1 blogsphere gives TWO possible 2015 destinations for each; Fernando either taking a sabbatical or going to McLaren, while Vettel is still in talks with BOTH Ferrari and McLaren. Of course, Fernando still holds the option of remaining at Ferrari - and it's unlikely that Marnello will pay $60M just to kick him out but I also think it's unlikely for him to remain. Looks like Merc is not an option for any of these guys as ROS and HAM has both been more or less confirmed in their announcement yesterday. I still have not discounted the option of seeing Fernando and Vettel in the same car
  13. Cheers. Got it - I was wondering because my car felt a tad under powered with a/c and the cooling system out of whack just a week after replacing the drive belt. I know the belt was extremely tight going in (it is the correct replacement part) but don't think the said bearing problems could be evident in a week?
  14. Davy, would this have a drastic impact on a/c, engine cooling system behavior? (not hijacking the thread, and thanking all for the very informative info here)
  15. I was surprised at the percentage of non-Japanese things in a JDM Axela (stock, unchanged here). I don't know about the engine but at least 50% of the body, suspension and other components seem to be european, mainly from Ford plants. Of course, they shared a platform for a while but I thought most parts were from Japan.
  16. That's true, but that doesn't mean it's not safe as well. You were lucky that you were hit from behind. Gently nudge it from the front and the front crumple zone will literally crumple. That's safe as hell for the occupants but not so nice to repair
  17. Ha ha .. lots of people are changing the lights the otherway, interesting to see OP wanting the red lights. Mazda seems to like that too, as they bought it back for the new 3 / Axela.

    Mazda Axela

I'm no expert in ride height but according to the formulas available on the net, your new wheel choices would change your clearance by 6.5 mm and 8.95 mm respectively - that's less than a centimeter. Furthermore, do you really have an issue with the MZ3? I've been driving the (stock) Axela around Colombo for three years and never have an issue on the regular roads and most residences or parking spaces. I did have an issue with the raised entry of the previous office car park but I learnt to manage that by being patient and going in/out at an angle. I have bottomed out on various humps on road - but those were the ones I chose to ignore and drive over at a higher speed. If I have the patience to slow down (which I mostly don't) I think those are easily managed. I've noticed that the side blades of the chassis (beneath the doors) takes any impacts and the underbody has never been affected at all, even minutely, in the 3 years of driving the Axela.

Slightly OT but I would like to know if you had issues with new tyres and ever used a 'tyre warranty'? My father had a blowout out of the blue in a 3 month old (~ 500km) tyre. The agent is closed now and tomorrow and there's no warranty specifics noted in the invoice. TIA
  20. What about noticing a flat but driving 600m to a tyre shop because you're a lazy ass in a hurry Guilty, but the tyre and wheel survived.
  21. Mate, there was a paint shop quite near to the Roxy cinema in Wellawatte (same side) which had a Sikkens board. Plenty of other places around Colombo as well as Don said. I thought A*W had their own paint stock and matching systems?

    Mazda Axela

Damn, here I was thinking all Mazda 3 / Alexlas had HID on low beam. Turns out quite a lot of them even in US and Europe have halogen projectors. Thanks GayanR for clearing that up (at least for me). And any simple conversions using the halogen projector headlight would not work (properly) as the halogen lens is optimized for H7 bulbs and not D2x bulbs.
  23. Solution to too small parking spaces?
  24. Gayan, were your previous repairs (incl. the coolant reservoir) also done there? They helped me to correctly diagnose a water pump issue on my Axela which had been misdiagnosed by someone else. I was late to spot this post, otherwise would hv commented on my experience before which was a bit similar to yours. Plus, my fan control unit had a few capacitors blown which had reduced my fan speed from stock and that made my issue worse - replacement of water pump and FCU solved mine. It was a pain to check all the elements of the cooling system!

The best I could find for Maxxis 195/65/15 around south of colombo was 11,800. As per chan5 it was 10600 down south. Anyone found a better price in Colombo recently?
