  1. Amen for that!

In the microcars website there is a link which directs you to the model designed in SL and theres a pic of it as well.

Micro should have tried to develope the locally designed model and after that gone into manufacturing busses and other models.

  2. maybe even a better option for people with low budgets who buy tuk tuks

Can be used for something like a budget taxi as well. :D

What ever happened to the new Micro model that was designed in SL.

They should develope that model and try and replace the 3 whelers or give some competition for the Nano.

  4. Hats off to whoever made it happen :appl::appl::appl:

I hope these cameras can survive the bus maniacs

Thats right hope the vehicles will keep clear of the cameras.

But on the other side even if any type of vehicles take out the camera posts the images would have already beamed back to the control room and recorded and stored and the driver will be in trouble.

That might make bad drivers think twice.

  5. It's good that this system is finally setup in Sri Lanka. But i'm a bit concerned about the way it is setup here. They may be able to identify the vehicle from CCTV camera's but can they identify the driver correctly? So, whom are they gonna penalize? is it the driver or the owner of the vehicle? How will they send the ticket? I think in foreign countries, the owner of the vehicle gets the ticket posted with the pictures of him violating the law. But in those countries normally the registered user is the actual driver of the vehicle.

But here in SL, there would be situations where people driving vehicles on open papers where the registered owner of the vehicle is some other bloke. In such a situation if they identify a guy violating a rule, who will receive the ticket? is it the previous owner? Does anyone know about how this is done?

There are more than one CCTV cameras at each junction and they face different directions.

So i guess they might be able to get the number of the vehicle as well as the driver.

  6. Over 300 errant drivers have been captured by the Close Circuit Television (CCTV) camera security network activated in Colombo on Wednesday, the CCTV department said.

According to the department most drivers were seen to have violated road rules including instances of passenger buses idling at bus stands in the City, obstructing traffic, jumping the red light, changing lanes in violation of the rules and driving on the pavement.

The CCTV department said that 150 errant drivers were captured on the cameras today alone and action will be taken against all these drivers in accordance with the law while images capured using the CCTV cameras will be used as evidence.

Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa inaugurated the Close Circuit Television (CCTV) camera security network in Colombo on Wednesday.

Over 100 CCTV cameras have been installed at 28 locations in Colombo as part of the initial stage and the cameras have been connected to monitors being watched by the police.

The police will maintain vigilance through 105 CCTV cameras to combat crime and to carry out surveillance and to collect information.

  7. Im really new to this field and planning to buy my first car....Would really appriciate all u experts help...

What would be the best buy in above mentioned price range taking in to account,

    1. Fuel consumption

    2. Best look

    3. Resale value

I have few options in mind like FB 13, FB 14, presea, Soluna, AE 100, Carina AT 192, Lancer CB 8...(dosent matter diesel or Petrol)

Am i within the range of these...

Would looking forward to all u guys help..

    Thanks in advance...

Were you able to find a car in your price range yet or are you still looking.

  8. I would say the Viva.

Considering options wise the viva i think is better with things like fogs and full option as well as standard alloys. Not sure if the other 2 cars come with all these options.

Friend of mine bought a viva M/T 1000cc and said that it was quite nice to drive.

I too called and asked the agents the price and the 1000cc M/T viva i think is one of the cheapest priced brand new cars in srilanka.

Not taking into consideration the Maruti 800 and the standard Alto model for somewhat the similar price on the basis of the options available in the Viva.

Another thing i heard that the agents for the viva dont give test drives which i thing is absurd.

Not sure if they have changed that policy or if they were out of demo cars to give customers to test drive.

  9. pls my friends

    help me in buyiing

    which is the best below,

    * micro geely 1.3 lc hatchback

    * perodua viva elite 1.0 manual

    * maruti estilo

    thanks

    I would say the Viva.

  10. I'll never buy an used alto since owners claim more than brand new price. It is very funny that 5 year old alto asks for 50k more than brand new price.

I have drove both VIVA and Alto, quiet fits to me. But don't know much about micro trend. I am afraid about trend because spare parts are not freely available and have to depend on agent. Can't guarantee what will happen in future. :violent-smiley-099:

Thats right, the used car prices are somewhat same or a bit more than a B/N car price sometimes.

Did you try getting details on the Maruti estilo and the Maruti A-Star.

Might be in your price range.

But given the choice for a B/N hatch i think the Viva might be a good option.

  11. Starlet is a better option, but It would not be possible to find a EP91 good conditioned car for 1.2mil. I noticed ep91 reflet owners are quoting 1.5mil. :( EP82 and below are bit old tho. Either I should wait and extend my budget or go for VIVA or Alto.

Theres not much of a difference in price between a registered 2005-2008 Alto. So its better to go in for a brand new car be it Alto or Perdoua.

Another car which falls in your range ould be the Micro Trend.

Try to go for some test drives of these cars and you can judge which fits your needs best.

    All the best.

  12. @cruise control:

There are so many other options for 1.2 million that will give you a safer more comfortable and specious ride than a Maruti. If you're willing to go for technology thats 10-15 years old why not but a 2nd hand Japanese car. Your Maruti will last you a year or so before that starts to fall apart. Plus A*W are known for pretty bad customer service, so if you DO want to buy a small 'new car' you might want to consider the Korean and Malaysian models too. I would think they'd still be better value for money than a maruti/Alto

There are other options as well for your price range in Brand new cars.

Friend of mine has a 2010 Perdoua Viva and the feedback is good on that car regarding MPG and drive comfort.

Also you can checkout the Maruti Estilo, not sure if that will fit in your range but worth a try.

I guess the new Hyuindai i20 might be a bit more expensive.

  13. Did you check out the Lancer C12 sedan and station wagon models as well as some nissan march k10 models can be foind in that range as well.

Another model that comes to mind is the charade and also there are some carinas (14sri) and civics (14sri)in your price range.

  14. Just checked out the microcars website and they seem to have added some new pickup, busses and hatchback models.

Are they going to replace the Micro Trend anytime soon.

Any info on the srilankan designed model that micro said it would produce.

Would be nice to see a locally designed model manufactured.

  15. Also interior is different. You get a better interior in Japaneese version. and there may be a difference in engine capacities as well.

Iam sure the price of the Indian Swift is less than the Japanese one New or Registered.

Do the agents bring down any of the Indian Swifts to SL.

Will be interesting to see how much a B/N Indian Swift will cost.

  16. With this there will be three companies that assemble cars in SL.

They being Micro, universal Assembly (pickup trucks) and UML (Zotye).

Not much heard of the Universal Assembly which is dome by IWS holdings. I dont think they assembled any Jags full scale.

If ther are any other vehicle assembly companies in SL please do list them.

  17. Zotye company from china is to asemble the Zotye Extreme SUV (Nomad) in SL under licence ith a subsidiary of UML.

Would be interesting to see how this goes. Also how they will price this vehicle.

Anyone with any info on this please do share.
