  1. We had a C220 Diesel a long time ago. It was a very nice car but the C220 version suffered from a problamatic Diesel Injector pump. For some reason most of the C220 in SL had had the Diesel pumps fail and replaced. I would recommend you go for the C250 which was from what I hear didnt suffer the same faults with the engine.

  3. You can use a clay bar to remove tar and other contamination off the paint.
  4. In most old cars its basically an additional small gearbox (epicyclic gearbox) that is strapped on at the back of the gearbox giving an increased gear ratio to the output of the gearbox. So basically all gear ratios are increased when the overdrive is engaged. Its mainly used to let the engine cruise at a lower RPM when cruising at high speed for long periods (i.e highways) to lower the strain on the engine. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/automatic-transmission8.htm
  5. Yes it is. I would guess it would be atleast 40 Mil + in SL
  6. I think it looks stunning but the price has gone up significantly. Here in the UK they start at £71k whereas they used to start around £55k I think.
  7. Platoon (1986) Great Movie based on Oliver Stone's real life experiences
  8. +1 I can totally relate to some of those
  9. Yes the 520D does not do anywhere near the MPG figures that BMW quote. In stop start traffic without auto start/stop the real life figures are 25-30mpg (8-10 km/l) and highway/motorway cruising 40-50mpg or a bit more (14-18 km/l). Still quite good for such a big car with such a small engine.
  10. The BEng (Bachelor of Engineering) is a specialist degree usually leading to accreditation from professional bodies (i.e CEng). The BSc Engineering follows a broader curriculum and is not recognised by professional bodies.
  11. Thank you Sampath for the great info and thank you Mr Hettiarachchi if you are reading this for that glimpse of the past. Being an avid enthusiast of all things historical it was very nice to read through what you had written. Im sure there will be many more people here who would love to hear more.
  12. Anyone want to buy a car company? http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=26754
  13. Would be interesting to see how that guy got all those ladies in to that car MD, Is that a TC in your photo? The TF is quite a rare care especially in SL. Would love to have one
  14. Ripper, Wouldnt a 100-130amp unit suffice for general welding work. I think a 130amp is good for welding mild steel upto about 3mm thickness so its certainly good enough for body panels etc. There are also gas less MIG welders which use a wire with flux but I believe these are a bit messy (splatter etc) but does away with the need for gas. 15. The UK has the type approval system where the vehicle would go through a IVA/SVA assessment to check if it conforms to all the rules and regulations. https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-approval This is a faily good system and Sri Lanka should really have a system like this but I doubt the authorities will have any interest in developing a system. The MOT is carried out to ensure the vehicles are roadworthy. All vehicles older than three years have to go through an annual MOT.

    Bmw 520D

The F10 5 series is only made in Germany apart from the long wheel base version which was made specifically for the Chinese market. All the F10s coming to SL will be from Germany.
  17. There are lots of manufacturers using all aluminium engines these days and its becoming more and more common especially with increasing regulations etc. These have been around for quite a long time and they dont really have any major problems. http://www.autozine.org/technical_school/engine/tech_engine_6.htm
  18. Yes the Moss front bumper we got for our A has also started to rust now (although this is after almost 8-10 years). I also forgot to mention if you are looking for gauges and instruments try: http://www.caigauge.com/ - These guys manufacture Smiths stuff and still supply places like Morgan Cars http://www.thegaugeshop.com
  19. Hey MD, Great to see everything coming together so nicely. Keep up the good work. Do you get your parts mostly from Moss? Have you tried Rimmer Bros because they also supply all Triumph parts and sometimes they are cheaper than Moss. Also for carbs have you tried Burlen Fuel Systems as they actually manufacture all SU carbs now. http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/ http://www.sucarb.co.uk Malith
  20. I believe for a good regeneration you are looking at mainting a speed of about 100 kmph for atleast 30 minutes which is not gonna happen in a country like SL. Even people here in the UK buying these cars who only do town driving a getting into very costly repairs because of dpf problems. The dpf can be removed but this is a complicated process as far as I know as it requires ECU software changes and possibly other electronics modifications. There are companies who offer this service http://www.dpfremoval.co.uk/

    New F10 Bmw 528

Hi, Have you had a look at the local agents website. There is a brochure to download and shows standard and optional items. http://www.prestigegroup.lk/5_series/sedan/overview.htm According to this the pro nav, reverse cam etc are all optional. I have a uk 520d and the specs are pretty much similar to the uk cars apart from a few things (run flat tyres, ddc with sport auto box etc) according to the brochure.
