    Car Cool Box

Hi Guys, If you are using a cool box (Not the one came with the car) could you share the details. It seems they use at least 3 AMP or higher continuously to keep cooling. When it is being used, Do we need to keep the engine running to provide the power needed?because otherwise the battery will be drained. Do you get 0 °C (Zero) and how long does it take to get zero? Could you suggest a brand / or what's yours brand? Appreciate your replies. Thanks.
  2. Never been questioned about the lights because I never turn them ON, on main roads or if not needed. It will be very difficult for Car, Bike and 3 wheel drivers.
  3. If this is for me, Yes I will. Give me few days.
  4. Wow. Congratulations. Finally you will have something that you can drive proudly no matter how old the car is. It is what you feel when you drive a vehicle which is built (restored) by yourself. I am not an expert but believe me body parts are the hardest when it comes to restoration. By looking at the pictures posted it seems the car is in a good shape. Depending on the budget you can start from the body work such as tinkering and painting. Meanwhile collect the parts that are needed for the restoration. Consider suspension, brakes, steering system, engine, gear box, electrical system and finally interior work. If you go beyond original restoration, things like disc brakes are also possible. However we like to see the progress and please post some pictures while you do it.
  5. This could be true. But it doesn't say any limitation of lights. (I don't know the law ) So is there any limitation (Any LM value or so?)
  6. Flood is no use as it spread the beams all over. Spot isn't that much narrow. Believe me its better than original head lights. I have never used them on main road unless its really necessary. Legal Requirements: Question : 11. I am a frequent traveler to Nuwaraeliya area in order to avoid the mist, fog lights are fitted to my vehicle Can I use fog lights in other areas too? Answer: Extra two lights could be fitted to a motor vehicle parallel to the head lights or below. It can be even a fog lights. http://www.police.lk/index.php/traffic-police/55-traffic-police-frequently-asked-questions
  7. Have installed two of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/27W-9Led-Trabajo-Luz-Camioneta-Todo-Terreno-Spot-Lampara-Land-Rover-SUV-12V-24V-/281526984601?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_186&hash=item418c50df99 its bright and uses less power too. Got it from eBay (Cheap) and found locally too (but expensive).
  8. For me this seems not correct. About Leaf, so many discussed about it in the forum. I am not a leaf user but keen to know the experience from those who use it. Are you using it just to travel shorter distance or even been on a long run? What is the real no of kms you get per single charge? Though it seems a stupid question, is it possible to plug a higher capacity battery which may be we buy from the market. ?
  9. Very good technological facts given to AL developers. Agree with what you say. Having heard the same thing from many friends who are car lovers and also Auto Lanka daily visitors they happened to ignore visiting the site unlike before and complained me to post it on the forum too. However, its NOT the technological enhancements but the visitor's point of view, the new design and pattern is not really impressing the viewers. I think its good to consider about it too. Hopefully I point out such things just with the idea to keep improving AL with time because as a form this community has solved so many problems in the past and would like to see it grows. Thanks.
  10. Agreed. Having too many functions make things complex and previous site was clean and easy to navigate. Personally I visited AL at least once a day to see what vehicles added recently and things like that. But now I don't feel visiting because of the look. Few of my friends at office also said the same. This is only my personal view. It may differ from what AL needs to be. So hopefully it will be better soon.
  11. Guys, Here is a good youtube channel that you will find it interesting to watch. https://www.youtube.com/user/JayLenosGarage/videos It is really an interesting to see how they have done such great works and also don't forget to watch this which is a bit funny to hear.. Hope you will enjoy..!!!
  12. Thanking you for posting your first reply to this thread which I started. It is actually good that you spoke the truth of Mercedes because you own one. I went to see 2 cars which are W126 Both advertised on AL as I remember but was not good as they appear on pictures. Simple and little things were forgotten to repair and that had made the whole car not worth for the amount. ( Of course I pay a little high if the condition is better. These might be repaired but should be good in quality) Why I went for the merc is because I like bigger cars. ( of course within a budget too) and getting an old car and restoring it is not possible at this time because I had done a J44 restoration for longer period of time. Another older vehicle to home will make me be killed by my wife LOL )
  13. Pls ask him to join this forum and share his experience with that vehicle.
  14. Have seen few (may be 2) around Colombo and heard some has bought for tourism purpose. Have you checked the spare parts availability. Found this on internet;
  15. Honestly speaking; for me the older site was much better because of; 1. It was simple and very easy to see the vehicles 2. Search was simple 3. Did not have a long menu and kept it simple enough to understand a basic user But I try to say the effort is a good way and if possible please try to simplify it further and minimize the number of clicks that is needed to find a vehicle. Good luck and change for the better. Hope you don't change the forum.
  16. Thanks. It is ideal to have a 24v one. Will there be any compatibility issue such as lack of fuel flow or any other? Thanks.
  17. You mean the ones which came recently? Will it be possible to get it fixed to the place where the current diesel filter is located? Else do I have to add another filter in between fuel tank and the original oil filter. ?
  18. Hi guys, Happy New Year to all of you. I am looking for a way of fixing a water in fuel sensor for my J44. I have heard some vehicles have it but have no idea about those and never seen a fixed one. I had a terrible experience of having water in my fuel filter recently and most probably it's from a well maintained fuel station Please share if you have any idea about this and also the possible ways of doing it. Thanks so much in advance.

    Cruise Control

A suggestion, Sell the Axio Hybrid Buy a 4DR5 J44 Transfer rest of money to fixed deposit Drive around 70km/h even in high way LOL
  20. The humidity is the main concern here. Colombo we have around 80% and up country it is around 50%. As I wrote earlier, the temperature is not the key point but the humidity. If we can reduce the humidity, we feel comfort even in Colombo. Air coolers work well on low humid places. Read this for additional info. I don't think having an Air Cooler is effective at high humid areas such as Colombo ( You may get a bit of a difference by adding ICE to the water tray but it is not always practical.) Another problem is that, an air cooler will increase the humidity level which facilitate bacterial organisms to grow faster. Nature provide us the protection by killing the bacteria using O3 (Ozone) and that is why we need a proper ventilation. So the first thing at home would be to have a proper ventilation system even if it is air conditioned. (At least an hour for a day should be opened to the outside to flow natural air in and out) To overcome these issues for sealed environments such as labs and medical institutes, Ozone generators are used BUT those are handled by professionals who knows the facts. (Because Ozone is harmful to us)
  21. Is this based on your personal experience? Could you mention the agent? Because it will be really useful to us.
  22. It's not the temperature that makes us uncomfortable. It's the humidity. Colombo we have around 80% while matale is 50-60%. Temperature difference is around 2 degrees. Dehumidifier can work too but they are more expensive than air conditioners. Panasonic does control the humidity (though all acs does that) level and it keeps the rate inside the healthy zone which is around 55% if you set the room temperature to 25 or 26 °C. So it's better than dry cooling. Find out how other brands are. Only way I think is to ask someone who has tested such details.
  23. You really think an air fresher is needed? I don't think as far as the room is clean and has no bad smell. ( Of course you need to have better ventilation though an AC is fitted)
  24. Also you may consider buying portable air conditioner (Only one company that sells such items as I know and its http://www.cesolutions.lk/ecofrost.html) for rooms that you don't use much so that you can switch them as and when needed.
