  1. It was a diesel filter and I normally use VIC. But it was out of stock and then used a sakura. The filter did not function properly. Then i took it out and saw the material differences. However, later i went to panchikawatta and asked the seller to come with all filters in the same model. He bought 3 and you will be surprised when you see the filter quality inside. So i decided to stick with VIC. You can do the same and see in real.
  2. Simply stay with VIC. I had terrible experience with sakura. After that, i never use that even if i re-use the old VIC.
  3. Guys, Anyone knows a place I can buy Nichrome wires? I visited few electronic shops and no hope. I can use it (may be a 18AWG). If you know a place, please post. Thanks.
  4. Correction. Its 42 years now. And still looks young. Yes. its 24v. It is a simple cable that is getting noticeably heated when the ignition key is turned to left side. I prefer to fix it rather than adding a new sensor. Any idea about the coil please? Attached the 42 years old grandpa below.
  5. Hi Guys, Could anyone suggest me how or where to find the coil of the engine heat indicator of a 4DR5 J44. It was burnt out. I attach the image herewith. Thanks.
  6. Hope fueling a gasoline car also won't be forgotten. "Lady driven" is not an option.
  7. AFAIK there are two types in the market. One is concentrated and the other is ready to use. The concentrated coolant need to be mixed with water may be 50% : 50% (You can find it in the product label) Ready to use means it is prepared and you can directly use it. You may choose any as per your requirement but if you are to flush the radiator and refill from the beginning, use a prepared branded coolant. If it is water in your radiator and you just need to add some coolant, use the concentrated.
  8. Its a 4DR5 J44. The one in my profile pic.
  9. Initially i thought of connecting it to park light or to the blinker. But ended up having a separate switch at my custom dash board so that anytime it can be on and off. Yes 3 wheels and bikes never come close.
  10. My bible says never touch the chassis. So i never think of drilling it anyway. The vehicle is used for both on and off road. Even in Colombo and i don't do hard core off roading.
  11. There are pre drilled holes in the chassis. So i used them.
  12. A little DIY project for my jeep which I had this in my mind for sometime because, it bothers me a lot when I turn in extremely narrow corners at night though its on or off road. So I mounted these 18W LED spot lights each side of the chassis and now its bright enough for me to see where my rear wheels are just by looking at the small side mirrors. It's worth to have.
  13. First, I have no idea how N16 engines work. But commonly I can suggest below tips for you. Hope that you don't get any sounds from the engine that causes from a loosen belt? Check the power steering oil level and make sure its full. If its empty, then you have a problem and you need to get the PS pump inspected. Your belt that drives the power steering pump is broken. Inspect it well. Your power steering pump is giving problems. In this case, you need to get the PS pump inspected. Hope this helps to detect the problem at your level.
  14. Normally we don't keep the cooked food for 3-4 days. So any special reason why you suggest me to go for a conventional fridge? Is it because the higher cost of purchase or expensive parts if broken? Thanks.
  15. Did you find any noticeable reduction of the energy consumption? (May be from the electricity bill)
  16. Any hint why? Because it runs all day?
  17. Hi Guys, Apologize for posting this question which has nothing to do with autos. But I think some can answer with their own experience. I need to buy a refrigerator and thinking of an inverter model. I have experience with inverter type home AC (Of course they consume less energy) but not with the refrigerators. I assume the technology applies for the refrigerators is same as on ACs (continuously running compressor with some electronics inside) 1. I would like to know if anyone uses it already, what brands (or models) can be suggested for home use? 2. Any known problems with inverter refrigerators (With SL operating condition such as variable voltage supply, weather condition) Please help me decide. Appreciate for sharing your experience. Thanks.
  18. Mostly happened reason is said by twin turbo. Diesel engines vibration may also results the battery to vibrate a little and to have a loosened terminal rarely. Make sure you fixed the battery tightly to the casing. There are corrosion preventive rings that you can purchase from a local battery shop or spare parts shop. May cost you around 100 rupee for a pair. Place them first and tight the terminals. What Romesh88 said also works fine. No matter any reason, it's always better to inspect the engine bay once in a while including the battery condition. May be you can use a volt meter.
  19. By the way, I was bit concerned about what will happen if an EV gets flooded. Will it effect to the battery? Hope it's not water proof. And the motors? I know some people left their cars at home and now the water level is above the the roof of their houses.
  20. Well, I don't own either one but I can suggest you to go for the prius 2010. AFAIK the insight is discontinued vehicle but prius is not although there are different variations from year to year. When hybrid cars come to Sri Lanka, people were so afraid that the battery will cost you a lot when it needs to be replaced and bla bla. But see what has happened now. Better you inspect the car well ( May be you can bring it to Toyota Lanka with the current owner to obtain an inspection report . If the owner doesn't agree to that, then you may need to think about it) Hope this helps
  21. How about a Tesla Model S or X?
  22. Well speaking about fuel consumption, I don't think you need to go in and out of petrol sheds all the time even if you drive a chrysler or whatever falling in to that category. All you need to do is to make it full tank ( As such vehicles equipped with the matching fuel tank) and maintain as you drive. Anyway, Let me kindly share an experience I had with a diesel hybrid car. One day, someone I know visited my house with his Mercedes-Benz car which was recently bought with Blue-tech technology & it was Diesel. The car was luxury but I hated its noise because it was quiet until EV mode is on but very ugly sound when the engine is powered up. To be honest, it was a bit lower to my 4DR5. LOL. I kind of disappointed with Mercedes-Benz engineering about Diesel hybrid. ( I don't know how fair it is to others ) If I had your concern, I go with Premio Or Allion or Leaf (Upgraded version with longer range)
  23. I decided to keep the originals because I or my mechanics are not good enough to calculate the actual air flow needed for the condenser to cool down as it is designed to be originally. Twin Turbo > Thanks for your suggestion. I have done the drum to disc conversion (Front & A bit recently) and PS (Long time back) but you made me think something else. Originally 4DR5 comes with a Hand Brake lever next to the Steering (Left) and what we need is to lift it up harder. Normally, The lever is locked when it is lifted up and rotating a little to anti clock wise (Or clock wise ) releases it. My concern is that, if in case it was touched and rotated like I said before, it goes down which means the Hand Brake is off. I was thinking about this because after I fitted the Dual AC unit, In the cases of I leave the vehicle while others are inside and AC is on, Only this handbrake provide the safety. So in case if it releases (I have a 2 year old kid and I am really concern about this matter now. ) the vehicle looses the control. Since this vehicle has a hand brake shoes mounted to the drive shaft, I kind of thinking whether it is possible to have an electronic pull type solenoid (Or something similar to that) which I can switch on and do the same as the manual lever does. So If you guys have any idea about it, please share your thoughts. You know the requirement and suggest me something better. That will really help me. Thanks a lot.
  24. Well, you need to get the injector pump checked? I guess.
