  1. My experience is with Singer and Panasonic Econavi (Inverter). I can recommend Panasonic because they take less energy and has many options too. and give fast and better cooling. I think the unit is controlled by a microprocessor or something more electronics. So you need to have extra safety to protect from lightning and voltage changes. (I think almost all new inverter types has this high use of electronics) I got my units from someone I know and PM me if you need his contact number. (Very reasonable prices and also good after sales service) Units still function as the first day and never had any problems. I don't pay double just to cover few years of warranty which mostly we don't claim ( 90% may be) and use that money to set up a solar system with grid tie inverter.
  2. Could you comment on the following text please? Min. Alternator Continuous Duty Output Amps (At your planned operating speed) = Maximum Vehicle Electrical Load (for vehicles, typically, 40% of max stock alternator output amps.) + 50% of Total Battery Bank Capacity (in Amp-Hours -- NOT cold cranking amps) + Average Current Required to Supply Non-Stock Loads (http://www.zena.net/htdocs/alternators/alt_inf2.shtml) Is it practical to use this formula to measure the alternator?
  3. Your explanation is highly appreciated. (Probably the best answer I had for this matter so far) The story is this. It's a 1974 j44 jeep that I restored to the best possible. I mean not as an extremely off road but somewhat in between. So I fixed a dual air conditioning (not myself but I got it done) and found that the power it needs is more than the alternator can produce. So the stator was changed and an IC regulator was added. Also changed the pully so that it gets high RPM. I know that this is not the best way but somewhat successful. Also I fixed an idle up switch (again not by myself but got it done). It gives a bit more high RPM and avoid vibration which comes with the high load at idle. The only problem having is that the insufficient production of the current at idle speed. Solution was to fix a new high capacity alternator which I discussed on this forum as well but didn't get time to spend for that. So I have seen higher capacity custom made alternators and also recondition ones such as 4HF1 engines alternators. Thinking of doing it when I get time. The reason I asked about idle time production is clear to I think. It is also an interesting topic.
  4. If we can increase the alternator RPM related to the engine idle (Ex: pulley conversion - http://gadi.agric.za/software/renting/pulley_calc.php), is it possible to keep the batteries fully charged? If so what would be the common (regardless of the engine model or any fact) RPM which the alternator should meet?
  5. It means that if the full load is needed at idle it gets from the battery? In such cases for a longer time (Assuming the engine is idle for some time while the vehicle is not in motion) the battery will get discharged and will have problems. Is it so?
  6. Isn't the alternator providing enough charging power at idle speed? Normally diesels it is 600-700RPM (Correct me if wrong) If the alternator doesn't provide the load it needs at engine idle time, We will have an issue in case if we keep the AC and Headlights on for some time when the engine is idle. Isn't it?
  7. Thanks for such a great detailed reply. Question: "Get the engine running at 2000 RPM with headlights and AC switched on, and measure the ripple AC voltage between the battery terminals." Why is that particular RPM? Is if for both petrol and diesel engines? Thanks.
  8. Very valuable information. Even if a battery shows the correct voltage doesn't mean that it has the full capacity. Although it is not the best way, I get the battery's ability to provide the load simply by monitoring how much volt it drops by the time it crank. Ebay has pluggable volt meters for very cheaper price and anyone using it can get a general idea of the battery. Though it is not advised as a good practice, I practically have seen fixing batteries by flushing and adding new acid into it. And had gained extra 1 to 2 years of life span extended.
  9. For what I know; Green : Good White : Recharge Red : Replace But I don't think you should trust 100% of what that inbuilt meter says. To see the actual condition, you need a volt meter basically to test. If your battery is in 12V-14V range, at low load, it is good. When load comes, it is normal to reduce voltage but it should not be below 12V. Test with AC, Stereo and Lights on in your vehicle. Also plug the volt meter and see how much it drops by the time you start the engine. That will give you an idea of how good or bad your battery is. Hope this helps.
  10. Check with the settings. You may find the OS details. Try every menu till you end up at the last node.
  11. You need to find out what the OS is because without knowing that, you can do nothing.
  12. Did you check whether power comes to compressor? According to my knowledge It could be a fault of the compressor. However you can only check whether the power comes otherwise bring the car to a good AC technician. Because if you try something the gas may leak.
  13. as per i know, this is normal. you can refill it. use the one you had used before. its good that you open the bonnet sometimes.
  14. Is your engine getting heated than normal? If not refill the coolant. Else you need to check what causes it to heat more. It is normal to see the coolant is reducing a bit with time.
  15. Could you share a contact number of Saman please?
  16. may have fitted an auto gearbox? not in SL I guess.
  17. Read these first; http://forum.autolanka.com/topic/13807-honda-hrv-owners/ http://forum.autolanka.com/topic/12479-rav4-crv-or-x-trail/ http://forum.autolanka.com/topic/15365-honda-crv-or/ Forum Search Hope that helps. Thanks.
  18. What do you mean by good car? please specify.
  19. I have seen a Tesla Model S here in SL but don't know how practical it is to use one of these in our country. We don't find any charging stations and no tests have been made yet to see the practicality of use such EVs. I wonder no member of this forum is having an EV?
  20. I tried to pm you but it seems you are not able to receive messages. I would like to inspect. How can you give me the contact information. ? Thanks a lot.
  21. Thanks guys, Could you please reply why you have mentioned W124 & W123 are better? How can I decide which one & in terms of what? Thanks and appreciate your reply.
  22. Hi Guys, I am looking for a Mercedes Benz W126 (1985) car & found very few on web as well as papers. Though they seem good I don't really know much about the things I should look for especially they are bit old as in 1980's. Generally what I know is to look for corrosion and mechanically smokes..etc like that. But relevant to this car, Could anyone help me to know more about Mercedes Benz W126 when it comes to buying one such as what things I should check other than regular things that we normally see. And some says its really expensive to maintain such vehicle but I really need advice from anyone who have/had such vehicle or at least having experience about their maintenance. So really appreciate if you can share some details. Finally, if it doesn't violate the forum rules, please share where I can get the repairs done as not every mechanic can repair this kind of vehicles, and what would be the fast wearing parts and give some idea about cost of replacement too. Thanks and appreciate your replies.
  23. The registration fee with the sum of licensing fee for 2 years will be the amount you will have to pay according to my knowledge. Correct me if I'm wrong please.
  24. Hi guys, Have you used a Digital Car Air Compressor like this one on eBay? I couldn't find it in the local market and thinking of getting it from eBay. It may be used for a motorbike or a Jeep (4DR5 - if possible). But before placing the order, I would like to know a real users view if any of you have used it. Therefore please post a reply with your experience. I am thinking of getting a digital one because I think that It could be easy to use and also could be more accurate than other ones. Appreciate your reply. Thank you. [http://www.ebay.com/itm/12V-250PSI-DIGITAL-ELECTRINIC-AIR-COMPRESSOR-PUMP-AUTO-CAR-VAN-TYRE-INFLATOR-/390679903351?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5af6563c77]
  25. Its a double cab. Not remembering whether Nissan or Toyota.
