  1. Had 2 defenders(90 and a 110)..but none at the moment. Well today morning drove to office on a Micro Rexton.. But on a daily basis drives the office vehicle(A Vigo)
  2. Well I really did not know that such a huge responsibility was on me when I am to make a comment on this forum. I am really sorry for my irresponsible behavior and i beg my audience to forgive me for my jumbled up thoughts. I thank you Preveen for your valuable input and will keep your good advice in mind when posting my comments in future.
  3. ok...well the 156 Lusso is more suitable for SL coz it has more ground clearance whereas the 156 Gran Turismo has less ground clearance..and hence not suitable for SL
  4. Sorry if this is a repost...Thought you guys might like it... http://www.dreamweb.ws/index.html
  5. And BTW i was saying to think twice coz in some models, the ground clearance is very low...as an example on 156 lusso, the ground clearance is more than the 156 Gran Turismo
  6. @The Don...no i dont know...please enlighten me...was hoping to get one down from there when i had enough money saved..and i know top gear loves talking shit about it...but if you just drive one...u'll fall in love with it...hence my bias opinion...i tried searching you tube for the video i was talking above in my earlier post...but couldnt find it sorry. @pericles/VVTi/Ripper.....guys pls..i was at the office and was in a hurry to post it..hence the typos and the jumbled comment...but to pick on it...lol...u guys need to grow up (no disrespect) I was just trying to say i love "ALFA ROMEOS" and IMHO they are the best and the most stylish cars ever built...they drive better than beamers and mercs and are really fun to drive...BUT "ALFA ROMEO" is notorious for late deliveries and crappy services...anyway again sorry about the typos
  7. WOW bro...this is really nice...a job well done...btw a nice paint job wont hurt either All i can say about this unreliability crap is that Alpha's are far more reliable machines than even BMWs(at least the new ones). As I see the unreliability thing is just a gimmick by the Japsters to market their vehicles. Personally i would prefer an Alfa over any euro car. Even Jeremy C confessed that the performance of an Alpha is truly superior than any BMW or Merc. (@DON i really dont think that Jeremy will say sumthing like that) So for me Alfas are the first choice if im ever to buy a car. But considering the status of many roads in Sri Lanka, I would think twice if i am to get one. Totally off topic....If anybody wants to know, there is an Alfa Romeo club now in Sri Lanka and they will also help to import one if you need(Second hand Alfas are really cheap in UK). The guys name is Oshada if i can remember correctly.
  8. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_Rover This says Land Rover has been sold to Tata Motors India.
  9. Land Rover was sold to an Indian company. Not sure whether it is Tata or Leyland. But i dont think think have started as of yet. If they have, how come brand new landrovers ended up being in Tissamaharama and Matara and not in Colombo where there is a huge group of wanabe Land Rover owners. I smell a Frankenstein
  10. @Devinda: I was planing to go for the pre 95 model assembled at minuwangoda, but as Tikiri mentioned, I came to know about the poor pulling capability of the engine and decided to go for a 95-02 model. But would you believe that only 5 or 6 were imported to our beloved SL!! Anyway i haven't seen one of them. Now i cant import them coz their manu. year is not within 3 years that is allowed into SL. Anyway the reason i was going to go for a surf is that i gave up the idea of assembling a defender for myself. Would you believe that the going price for a defender in an army auction was around 2 MIL???!!!???$%#^ I couldn't believe!!! (the one Im mentioning had a chassis that was falling apart and the body was a heap of scrap metal) @Tikiri: Thnax for the info mate
  11. Guys, Do you think the Toyota Hilux Surf (models after 1995) is a good option for a person who wants to do some decent off-roading and also use it as his day to day work horse as well??? Has anyone used it and if so what are the pros and cons of it. And please please give me some good and trustworthy vehicle importers contact details in Sri Lanka. Trying to import a reconditioned Surf from Japan and is running into all sorts of trouble
  12. hey L board...I really think you should get your facts straight before commenting on our country's lack of engineering know how to even "ASSEMBLE" a LR defender. first of all ill just explain sum details about the land rover defender. If you have a chassis, gear box and the engine coupled to it, you can easily BUILD the remaining whole vehicle in sri lanka. The body panels can be fabricated in aluminum and be riveted together and fixed to the chassis. and all the other stuff, like coil springs, servo brakes, power steering and AC and etc etc can be produced within sri lanka or purchased in sri lanka. by the way do u think all the defenders that you see in sri lanka are directly imported from the UK People like osanda and another couple of guys bring down original parts from the uk and basicall assemble the defender from the scratch up. And some people even go as far as to modify the chassis!!!!! Basically in sri lanka all most 60% of the private vehicles that are seen on the road are assemble or even built by a common sri lankan garage "bas" who havent even completed his o/ls. So think what we can do if we start a plant and get trained technicians to work in it. It is is not just a dream as u say L board. If a common bas can build a defender IN Sri Lanka, then we can definitely can produce them in mass scale if we start a plant. We don't have to get tents from Timbuktu and erect them here and start selling donuts in it I know this is an automobile thread, but did you people know that we are basically BUILDING ships at Colombo Dockyards and our Navy build their own Fast Attack Craft (DVORA) and arrow gun boats? As an engineer living in Sri Lanka, I strongly believe that an assembling plant of vehicles(be it cars vans or lorries or busses) can be easily started in sri lanka. WE have built busses in sri lanka (LATEC AND D*MO) WE have built cars in sri lanka. If we can do that then, why cant we do it now. As I think, the only thing that is in the way is people like L Board who thinks that they have to go and lick a suddas ass to get everything, ranging from our vehicles to our education.
  13. Just saw this Article http://blacklightarrow.wordpress.com/2009/...he-transformer/ AWSOME Anyway dont know if its a repost.. If it is, sorry
  14. hey thanx a lot gummybr........do you know any place which has the complete independent suspension system(wishbones and the damper/coil assembly) for the likes of discoveries and monteros???? and also the CV joints for the drive shafts and the steering strut...
  15. Guys.........can any one please tell me if any of the numerous SUVs in our country use individual suspension apart from toyota harrier and hummer H3. And if possible, can any of them be used for serious off roading?????
