  1. 3.5 million should actually get you into a new Japanese Kei car as well, don't write them off as they do really well in most conditions one is likely to encounter in SL, especially if you get one with a Turbo.
  2. Depends on many factors, such as condition of the engine, maintenance, driving style etc. Those figures were for a car in good running shape.
  3. 8-9 sounds fairly realistic for the 1.5 turbo as long as you don't drive it hard. Remember that the 1.0l has to work harder in most situations (even with the turbo, it needs to be on boost more of the time) as the Civic is a fairly large car, so 10 or so is acceptable, as it's basically the same as an old 1.5-1.6 non turbo would do (slightly better actually). Just because it's a 1.0l doesn't mean that it will do Alto level fuel consumption, I do hope nobody bought Civics thinking that as it would be hilarious! You can expect similar performance from the CRV, the 1.5l is an efficiency/emissions focused replacement for the previous 2.0l engine so fuel figures will be slightly better but you can't expect it to be amazingly so as the CRV is still a fairly big vehicle and the laws of physics still apply.
  4. Wow, so much discussion and you end up with something not even considered in the first place. Talk about Yanne Koheda Malle Pol. Anyway, glad you've finally made up your mind. Best of luck with the new car. I hope you do realize that it is absolutely NOT going to do 32 KMPL in Sri Lankan conditions btw.
  5. Attitudes like this basically sum up why two decade old Toyotas with half a million on the clock still sell to ignorant fools for millions in Sri Lanka. Mazda is a Japanese company with a very good reliability reputation over years of service, the only issues they have had consistently in the US are related to rust in the snowy states where salt is used on the roads - which is a non issue here in SL. Consumer Reports generally rates them quite highly as well, so I don't quite know where your data is coming from (Not 100% sure I don't have access to full CR data, so please do correct me if I'm wrong.) Also Scotty Kilmer is a loudmouthed hack who is more about the drama than actual substance, so maybe don't use him as an authoritative source.
  6. If that is the first question that comes to your mind, then you shouldn't be buying a Skyline V35. And to answer your question, it will be around 5-6 KM/L in the city.
  7. A Civic 1.0l turbo does NOT have the same engine as the CRV. Also, "Only 10-11 Km/l"? In the city? That is actually very good fuel consumption. What kind of fuel figures are you expecting?
  8. Best bet to check the conversion cost will be to ask the local operation that does it on a limited basis for re export. I believe it is connected to Edirisinghe brothers. I'm guessing they will quote a couple of million at least because to do it properly is neither easy nor cheap. Might be better if you check in Japan if an RHD Camaro is sold there.
  9. What a waste of a BMW.
  10. LHD cars cannot be imported to Sri Lanka, so it will have to be Japan (or australia if it is available there.) The duty and freight calculation is straightforward and is mentioned in Kush's comment. So you need to look at what the cost will be in one of those two countries and add the stated figures, which should remain consistent for now.
  11. In short, avoid it.
  12. Kindly stop replying to ancient topics. This was last active 4 years ago.
  13. Interesting that it was that bad. A good friend (and former regular here at AL- @Devinda_Z) had a brand new imported 2004 Montero IO from new up until about 2 years ago and it was absolutely stone cold reliable. Just needed oil changes basically and about a year or two before it was sold it needed some brake and suspension work if I remember correctly. Of course this was the basic Non GDI model, steel wheels, didn't even have airbags.
  14. To second what The Stig said, with rubber parts buying used is never a good idea because it's not just mileage that degrades them, age and climate does too.
  15. The cause is most likely the gearbox mount. For things like mounts if you go with non genuine parts, there's always the likelihood of them not performing the same way as the originals. For what it's worth check that the mount is correctly installed anyway.
  16. dude, if the car is well known and has been cared for, 112k is nothing... Get it checked out at the agents or an independent inspection place to be on the safe side and go for it, eyes closed. The FD civic is a fun car but finding a good example is getting tougher now. And the Axio will definitely be more comfortable overall than the Civic, though the Civic may have the edge on handling perhaps.
  17. They've just barely got here, the first ones have JUST been registered, how do you expect to get any meaningful comments just yet?
  18. Get this into your head first, A VEHICLE IS NOT A "FUTURE INVESTMENT", IT IS A MODE OF TRANSPORT. Only the quirks of the Sri Lankan market have created this ridiculous situation where cars don't depreciate but one fine day that train will reach the last station so depending on it is a very stupid idea. If you insist on looking at it as an "investment", then buy the newest Toyota Corolla 121, Axio or Allion you can afford, make sure it has "winker mirrors, allow wheel, beige interial and push start", then park it safely in the garage and light some incense sticks near it every day while praying to whoever god you believe in to preserve the status quo of the Sri Lankan car market. Then take the bus. Or a tuk/some other form of Taxi.
  19. What on earth is with all these Apples and Pineapples comparisons on AL these days?
  20. Maybe give us a bit more information? What size of car do you want, what factors are important to you, what kind of running do you do etc. You cant just put a number and expect us to guess the rest, not like anyone here can read your mind.
  21. As far as I can tell, there is absolutely no unregistered Japanese Sedan option in the 4-5 million range. You're going to have to look at registered options if you want a Sedan.
  22. Pick whichever one you like best and get that. End of discussion.
