  1. Always go for manual one, 4 door flat roof one has the highest market value. Auto gear vehicles has very low pulling power compared to manual. 1. Check the mileage and engine condition. Most of these vehicles are high mileage. If it's genuine mileage even 150,000Km van should have good condition. If you see something around 80K or 90K for this type of van, then it;s most probably altered mileage. 2. Check the body condition, some vehicle comes as nice pack and are altered one in Sri Lanka 3. Especially, ride around good 5Kms and feel the quality of the vehicle. Most of these vehicles need entire suspension overhaul. Pros of this vehicle ----------------- 1. Good fuel economy. Outstation 16Km/L, Colombo 10-12Km/L. 2. Very reliable vehicle 3. Cheap parts 4. Good market demand 5. Safter than normal van due to front bonnet Cons of this vehicle ---------------- 1. Very bumpy/rough ride (compared to a car) We had CR41, flat roof, manual vehicle with us and it's one of the best vehicle we had in our life.
  2. Vehicle Demand for townace are as follows from Highest demand to Lowest demand. 2W drive, flat roof, manual, 4 door CR42 has the highest demand. The lowest demand is 4W, high roof, auto gear, 5 door CR41. My advice is to go for manual gear one. I had CR42 auto gear one and it;s terrible in low gears. High revs and no pulling power. We had CR41 manual vehicle and it has more pulling power than CR42 Auto gear. 4WD has less demand due to high maintenance cost in front wheels and high fuel consumption (What people say, no experience on it). Those are hard to resell . (but upcountry people looking for 4WD vehicles sometime)
  3. What I do 1. Service my car 5000KMs or 6 months which comes first. You can see how much mud and other substances which leads to corrosion in your car when you do the under washing at the service station 2. Change Oil Filter with every service 3. Change Air filter after 2 Services (i.e. 10,000Kms or 15,000Kms). In Sri Lanka condition the Air filters get dust and will worn out very quickly. 4. ATF oil change at every 40,000Kms (modern cars give the indication) 5. At each service ask guys to check break fluids, battery water, Radiator coolant and any other checks IN addition to regular services 1. Check and Service AC system at every 20,000Kms 2. Wheel alignment at every 10,000Kms 3. engine tune up every 40,000Kms (cleaning plugs and throttle body) 4. Shock absorber test every 40,000Kms 6. Check tyre pressure every 1 month. If you treat your car well, it will treat you well. There were some test done on abroad to check the quality of the oil which we change at 5000Kms. They have said that the oil is only 2/3 worn out and can easily do another 3000-4000Kms. But in Sri Lankan condition 5000Kms mean actually 7000Kms when you consider the idle time at traffics and hard acceleration and breaking.
  4. I had CR41 diesel van with 2C engine and below is what I do, and it did around 16Km/L for long distance. 1st gear - maximum speed 10 2nd gear - maximum speed 25 3rd gear - maximum speed 40 after 40 change to fourth gear.
  5. Do you feel lack of power when driving vehicle? Do you think it doesn't have enough power in low gears especially when AC is on?
  6. I did it at Laugh gas Orugodawatta. They charged extra some extra amount in addition to the oil for the job (something around 1500).
  7. Also, you will worry about the conversion when you first drive the van. The smooth ride will no longer be there and there is a vibration of the engine you can feel inside the cabin. Also you will get black smoke and all related problems with diesel engines if it's a high mileage ones. These diesel engines surely have more than 100,000Kms on the clock. These 3C engines are very robust and reliable and can last around 300,000 - 400,000Kms. So you are taking chances if it's a high mileage engine.
  8. Has been using 1330CC for more than a year, no complaints, solid, reliable car. Haven't had a even a single issue with anything for 20,000 KMs used within the 15 months. Long distance it does 20Km/L with AC and load with normal driving. With careful driving you can get around 25KM/L for long distance. In Colombo traffic it is 12-16Km/L range.
  9. Suzuki Every mini Van. Easy handle, good pickup, good road view, comfortable seats
  10. Agreed 100%. We had a 2C engine Townace(CR41) bought from indra t*** Peliyagoda and it had 80,000Kms in the meter when bought reconditioned and we used it for more than 5 years without any issue and it had more pickup than 3C engine townace (which we bought as 3rd owner). When we sold it it had more than 120,000Kms in the clock and was still mint as when we bought from the sale. Earlier there were no JAAI or such thing to examine when you buy vehicles. But now, some owners at least keep scanned copy of their JAAI for records.
  11. You can't, they will ask for MT6 A(RMV copy), but you can try trial and error method. If it passes through the reception and few clerks, then nothing to worry.
  12. The word "Bad" mean relative. A bad vehicle for me can be a good vehicle for you.
  13. It's not that fuel efficient as Alto or Maruti.
  14. Go for manual gear Indian car. Alto will be a good choice for you. Buying a 1993 starlet will be having lot of time wasted in garages. Definitely it will be more than 200,000 KMs driven.
  15. definitely a good quality job.
  16. Recently did a carpeting job for Rs. 5000 for my car. from a place near Kolonnawa and their job was good. Let me know if you need the details.
  17. My advice, Go for Kia Sorento 2011. You will save your time going to garages, Injector pump repairs, and lot of diesel engine related repairs. I have seen many Pajeros with lot of black smokes in the road.. Sri Lankan peoples think pattern is bit different. I had Townace CR42 diesel auto gear vehicle, 1999, it has poor acceleration and deadly pickup (Which coudn't corrected for company also and they said it's the normal with that model), but within half a day of the paper advertisement the vehicle was sold. It has nearly 100,000Kms in the clock and I was the thrid owner (not sure meter reading is genuine or not) I had spent lot of money after buying that vehicle to repair suspensions, injector pumps, radiators and low pulling power. I got the emission test failed 3 times out of 4 years. and with lot of spending on injector repairs, replacement and injector pump service, it got passed but problem again comes in next year.
  18. none of fuel additives worked for my diesel CR42 van. It gave lot of troubles eventually. Stay away from those.
  19. Has driven Fit Hybrid, Very good pickup and good driving pleasure. not sure about Aqua. If I were you, I will go with FIT.
  20. Agreed, SL insurance take minimum 2 weeks to get the claim. averagely 4 weeks (if you don't find out what is going on) They will tell 1.file is still at branch, hasn't received that 2 file is with clerk, 3. file is with audit, 4. file has been sent to manager for final approval 5. file is ready for check print(this will be tell whole week) 6. check will be printed soon (2-3 days) 7. money deposited (after 3-4 weeks) also, if you have hand over any documents to insurance person who came to see your vehicle, it will be lost and you will be in big trouble. Don't hand over claim documents and bills to that guy. To expedite the process always 1. go to head office to show the vehicle after the repair 2. Hand over the damage parts on time 3. hand over all the original documents and bills on time (keep photo copies with you) 4. Ask for claim breakdown after you get the cheque.
  21. Sri Lanka Ins*** - worst when come to getting the claim money on time. If you don't go there and bother them, it will take minimum 2 weeks to get the payment. One of my claim (Only Rs. 19,000) took more than 1 month to get the money in my account. MBS* - Only took 3 days to get the money. Not undercutting any quotations. has good experience with them.

    Air Filters

I had CR42 diesel had a terrible acceleration issue and low pulling power and once I replaced the airfilter to genuine toyota one and there was a considerable performance improvement and there after I only used genuine ones. But for my Honda Insight there were no difference with air filter brand because they had good pulling power. So no noticeable improvements when using originals. Also, some of my friends are using K&N filters ordered online through web and they say it's having around 5% improvement over any other brand.
  23. 100% agreed, Go for Honda Fit Hybrid. I am using Honda Insight Hybrid for 2 years without a single issue. Has driven more than 45,000Kms in Sri Lanka.
  24. Bought Nankang tyres few months back, now 12,000Kms on the clock, still look new. Bought from tyre shop in front of Sugathadasa stadium. Also, I have used cheap Chineese tyre from well known alloy wheel shop in Mt. Lavania in my van and they lasted for 30,000Kms without any issue. That was only Rs. 8,000 for a 185/65 R15 tyre The best I have used in Dunlop Japanese very good Tyre I used it in my FB15 and when I sold it it had 20,000Km done and looked like that it can done another good 20,000Kms.
