  1. Don't install the siren which beeps for all the vibrations. Once I installed Grodon brand remote key and security system, but it keep barking for all the slightest movements (vehicle passing, thundering etc etc) and finally I had to remove the security system. Some systems comes with vibration adjustments. ADvice Go for good quality one with few options. Don't put one with many options. same as original NOKIA phone vs Cheap Chinese phones with lot of features.
  2. Just to add for this topic, I had a long journey from Colombo to N'Eliya, Bandualla, Mahniyanganaya and back to Colombo by a Honda Insight. With lot of aggressive driving. Has done 19Km/L for entire trip. Even I had used Sport gear in some locations to overtake drivers who doesn't give chance you to overtake. Most of the trip, have past many corollas, axios, allions and max speed was 100 Km/h. I don't know why people scarifies driving pleasure and time just to save 1 Liter of fuel out of 45Liter tank.
  3. Wanted to share some information recently came across. I was using Ethisalat mobile broadband with 10gp package and most of the day it was very slow (less than 100KBPs) and disconnecting every second. Has to unplug the dongle everytime to reconnect. Later thought of moving out from this trouble and bought Dialog 11GB package for Rs. 950 monthly rental. It's far superior to Etisalat connection. Has been using it for more than a week and never had any disconnection or slow down. Most of the time it;s giving more than 2MB download speed with the speed tester.
  4. Had experience with 4 insurance companies. S*** Insurance: worst company in claim processing. It take about 1 month to get your money after the repair. If you have ask for a partial payment upfront it also take around 3 weeks to get approved. Lot of auditing and bureaucracy. Hard to get hold of the accounts department and the person handing the file. You have to visit the place in person. No response for emails or phone calls. Jana**** insurance: Moved to them few months back. Already claimed 2 minor accidents. Cheque got ready on second day. 100% satisfaction. If the cheque amount is not sufficient for the repair, we can provide another valuation and can get remaining money. Only prob is the inspector take around 30 - 45 minutes to arrive to the accident location. MBS* - Easiest when reporting incidents. there is a click and go option where you don't have to wait till the inspector come, you can take your vehicle home after taking some pics of the location and the damage. I had claimed few times using this insurance company and they never asked for photos which I took. So it's very easy process. Cheque normally get ready within 3 days. But the amount got approved is far less than Jana . e.g. Buffer paint they pass only 6000 where as janasha pass around 9500. SL also give only 6500.
  5. With the current exchange rate of 1.33 it will be Rs. 29.0 - 34.00 Lakhs

    Brake Pads

I recently brought brand name "ADVICS" and it lasted around 20,000Km for Hiace KDH van, the dealer said that even Genuine brake pads of KDH van will last only 20,000Kms. Is that the normal mileage for brake pads?
  7. Two guesses, 1. pulley or belt giving the sound or 2. you have to do an engine tune up. I also noticed similar sound few years ago in my diesel van and it went away after injector service.
  8. One of my friend owns Panda 1.3 and he was telling that it;s terrible in fuel. It's only doing 8Km/L in Colombo and 12Km/L outstation.
  9. Recently I changed my Dunlop set in car (which came original) to NanKang Comfort tyre 15 size and it has lot of road noise. Also it look like gripping the road heavily. Can't recommend.
  10. Jana****thi Auto collision Repair Center

    Engine Oil

Just give a try "Motor up" from teleseen. I have seen good reviews about it in the internet, especially for old cars.
  14. Some people say that, its the best vehicle Japanese has ever produced.
  15. Mazda browney is very bumby and they are used in many cab services and delivery services, so, you will not be able to find a good one. Hiace Shell model is far better vehicle and you can find supergl version with full luxury seats with Dual AC below 17 lakhs Keep in Mind ---------- Buying a old van mean lot of trips to the garage. Vans are commercial vehicle and if it's genuinely low mileage then it's definitely a worth buy. Most vehicles need full engine overhaul, suspension overhaul and full body paint which you have to spend another 3-4 Lakhs to bring the vehicle to good condition. We have hiace shell model 1982 one and it still good as those days. Can compete with any new vehicle in the road. None other vehicle would have lasted that much with the amount of load and distance we have done with it.
  16. Yes, it was a diesel engine from a Toyota CARINA car. We got it for cheap price with the gearbox also. That was done in 1990, but due to low pulling power and lot of black smoke we did a rebuilding but we later changed to original Hiace engine in 1994 and we still use that engine even after 21 years without an issue. and we still use that van. It was 1982 built Toyota HIACE shell model van. We used Petrol engine for around 1 year and later thought to move to diesel. That petrol engine we couldn't sold for a good price and it's tarnished now. That petrol engine was one of the quietest van engine I have came across.
  17. We had same issue with Diesel Carina engine which we put to our HIace shell model van. It had very low pulling, can't climb uphill, black smoke. Later we did engine ring replacement, It did well in couple of years and after around 50,000Kms or so again the problems came. Then we had to go for original Hiace engine. We put it from an abandon vehicle which we found at a gurage yard. Now that engine has done over 100,000Kms and no problem of black smoke yet. I am sure it has more than 300,000Kms in the clock. I guess, you have to do it with proper place like Auto court or place near Gamini hall.
  18. Don't go for CEAT, It's not good for comfortable ride. Also don't put rebuild tyres, they will kill the fuel economy. try few places for cheap tyres. 1. Tyre shops near Sugathadasa. I got my 185/65/R15 tyres Nanakang comfort and it cost me only Rs. 8800 per tyre. There are lot of tyre shops and you can get the brand you want. 2. JJ at Mt Lavania. Few Taiwan, Thailand and Chinnese brand starting from Rs. 7000. And they give warranty as well. Last time I put Thailand made brand for around Rs. 9000 for Hiace KDH and even after 25,000Kms, I can see it can do same amount of Kms from the remaining threads. 3. Universal in front of Aquinas - has most brands, but there prices are average. 4. Tyre shop in Kirulopona - can't remember the name, but they quoted cheaper than Universal 5. Tyres shops in Malay street - expensive than all above places.
  19. The best option for you is to go for a white car 1. Geely 2. Prius 2nd Gen used (3.2 minimum budget)
  20. Have you found a solution to your problem?
  21. Most probably sensor got busted. I don't think reverse camera guys has messed up the wiring as it is very straightforward few minutes job. Don't recharge battery, buy a new one, it;s good for the car and you.
  22. If you don't worry much about the speed and the mileage calculation, 1. Use same rim and go for tyre with large balloon size 2. buy 15' alloy and tire Pros: You get good ground clearance Cons larger the radius higher the tyre price
  23. AGREED. Once I went to service my vehicle and they are making lot of promotions to do the engine wash and all those nonsense which actually no need for new vehicles.
  24. few years back there is a huge demand for manual than Auto (Even-though the actual import value of Auto is higher than manual). But now, most people are looking for auto gear vehicles. If you are thinking of reselling, don't worry even a single second. I had auto , five door, high roof which sold at 1.25 of the value we bought 4 years ago.
