  1. If you look hard you will find vehicles without open papers. I bought the E200 from the original first owner who has refused to sell under open papers for a month.

Same goes with me. I sold all my cars with duly completed MTA 06 and copy sent to DMT. If they forge my signature that's a different story which i think is a common occurrence in all those open paper vehicles.

  2. One day transfer is not a hassle. I went two weeks back and got my long overdue transfer (With penalty of course). If you go with a prior appointment and if the documents are in order i handed over at 11.30 and collected sharp at 2.0.

Best would be to put a small lease (May be 10% of vehicle value.) So that the leasing company and the seller will be liable for any illegal stuff whilst all tax issues etc will also automatically get settled. There will be a stamp duty cost.

    Yes.

Sorry typing mistake. It's form 40. It contains company address. Form 13 contains change of registered office address. So you can submit either 40 or 13. Form 1 or 20 contains Directors details.

If its a pvt ltd company, No need of JP sign.

    Simply what you have to submit copy documents to prove following things;

    *Company registration details

    *Company address

    *Directors Names and Signatures

You will need the ID copies directors who have signed the no objection and MTA 06

  4. Hi all,

There was this Austin car that was owned by my Great Grandfather and then handed over long the generations to my Father. We fell in to hard times when my Father was down with cancer and had to dispose the vehicle. I am interested in finding the vehicle again and purchase it if possible, Any suggestions on how to locate the vehicle is much appreciated.

    Vehicle Number is EY-6304

The steering wheel was on this condition and the gear lever + dashboard had some minor discoloration and now as I posted above the leather looks top notch. I did my upholstery work by a place called Lal cushion in Mount lavinia which a car salesman recommended me saying "Malli japanata wada hondata gahanawa"

Can i have the contact no of this place pls. I have same sorta work to be done (Not that bad though)

Not so...the newer smart keys are better...but when you look at 2006 - 2012ish smart keys..they sucked...managed to lock in the the baby inside the car thanks to the stupid smart keys...not sure if they are still the same...I have not tried to do it recently...

My car got locked from inside. Some how ignition switched off due to idle stop and my wife kept the key inside with my dog and gone inside to make the payment to the Vet. Dog has stepped on the lock button.

Had to rush with the spare key. This was a 2019 Audi. So i don't think they are better

Thanks..great to hear from your personal experience.

I would like to know what i am looking at. A regular service at stafford would be around 15-18K, at 5K intervals. What will i have to expect extra in services?

Also could you please share some examples for the cost difference in regular parts, such as shocks break pads etc..

Agents - Service cost somewhere between 25-40K @ every 10K. (They now charge even for cleaning clothes, Excuse given in Covid and clothes are neatly packed and handed back to you )

Break pads wear out somewhere around 25K and cost me 65K to replace.

Also had a petrol leak. Cost me 5K for the repair and 38K for carrier charges )

Mind you the vehicle imported through a friend and serviced by Bosch and then at the Agents.

My last two vehicles were a Vezel and a Mazda 06. The Audi maintenance cost is higher than both vehicles combined.

So overall you need to have spare cash in hand and since yours is a used one be ready.

Just out of curiosity, do you transfer the car legally to yourself at the point of purchase, disclose to the buyer that you bought the car for the purpose of resale and pay relevant taxes on the profits to the government? If you don't do any of that, you are being neither ethical nor legal.

The car is already transferred to my name and as i said earlier i will not be selling the vehicle any time before me owning it for six months. I do pay income tax as per returns filed by me but no i have not estimated the profit from vehicle sale because at that time my estimated income was from employment and deposit interest. so may be if and when i sell the vehicle, i may have to increase the tax payment during that quarter.

In sinhala, they say balala mallen eliyata Panna.

Congrats for admitting that you are one of those a$$holes who contribute to jacking up car prices (in your words - 'a good investment')

Well i do not understand (Of course, me being the a$$hole) how prices can be jacked up by me buying a vehicle and then selling. There is a supply shortfall resulting in high demand. This is a cycle that has been occurring in Sri Lanka. Of course prices will drop when the supply normalize but not in the near future due to issues with BOP.

Reality is vehicles are a good investment for the next 06 months. I don't mind some idiot in UK calling me an A$$hole as long as i speculate - invest and gain or loose a few bucks from money ethically earned and ethically invested.

Spot on ! ..and this is rooted in to society's values itself and how we judge our fellow citizens in a very materialistic manner (not to mention people falsely believing cars are a better investment than keeping money in a bank...thus who cares if the FE reserves drain out :D ). Colonial era and tribal mind set I tell you

At the moment cars are a better investment. That's why i bought it for cash. Money at bank yield only 5% max. and will drop after the end of quarter. property market is also dropping and is not liquid. Investment funds are yielding at 9-10% and will drop further. So in the current context i pre-empted and bought a car and the return at current rate is 10%.

Personally i do not need to show off with a 2010 Benz as i own 2018 Audi A5 as the daily runner.

I can only laugh at these generalized comments of the pundits

Thanks for the feedback, Quiet. Msg well noted. Since I read very bad reviews on Vishwa Motors,  I thought maybe I'll try out Bosch, but now after reading your feedback, I've changed my mind.

I called Sunway Motors after member "Kadsa98" recommended it, they said it can be done and it'll cost about maximum 15k for service, with filters changed. I've also read lots of positive reviews about the services of European cars and also Members "Peugeot407" also recommends it, so I'm more inclined to try this out (Sunway Motors)

Yes like "Peagout407" said, Lalana is Ex Vishwa Motors.

@Quiet if you dont mind, may i know how much it cost you for the sunroof repair?  The solar panel in my car is functioning,  but sometimes the sunroof doesn't respond well. I went to drive one today for the Ac compressor, unfortunately they do not have parts for this vehicle as it is old, they stopped manufacturing parts. Tough luck.  And also job wise, once they give a quotation for a certain job, we'll have to pay 10% of the quoted amount, if we are not going to do the job. (The only reason we might not do any job is because it is too expensive for us, in other words, not within our budget) I inquired about the service too, he said it'll cost about 50K with filters changed. Is this okay? They use Castrol Oil. Sunway Motors quoted 15k with filters changed and they use a Mobile Dev Oil, it's cheaper. Do you have any idea what is the difference between these two services?  And what is recommended for my car. Btw if mine was a brand new car, whatever the manufacturered year, it won't matter cause I would prefer the Drive1, I dont mind spending a bit more. Since this is my first car and also an old car, used by 2 owners before me, I'm in a dilemma right now.

I think You should try the other joint recommended by the members. Not worth spending 50K which is what they charge for the initial service. Subsequent services will cost you far less. My sunroof repair and assemble cost me somewhere around 4K

  12. I have taken my Audi to D*MO Bosch/Vishwa and then to Drive 1 for various requirements and decided to stick with Drive one

I would not recommend Bosch - Shitty service

Vishwa is okish. Mind you i have done some minor repairs with them for rat attacks. Observing their work it seems they have lost focus on quality.

Drive one - I did vehicle service plus some minor repairs (Sunroof and few other stuff). They did a good job plus cost was not that inflated i thought.

lalana is also ex Vishwa motors i think but not sure.

I'm also just finished lease of my car and got the deletion letter.

Instead of visiting RMV and deleting absolute ownership, can I just handover deletion letter to future owner when selling the car few years down the line? So, that person can do it when transfering the vehicle ownership.

    yes you can
