  1. Dear All,

My CLA 200 2019 pops up below errors time to time and does not shift to P. This occurred after a week after battery done through the agent, several references obtained indicate this is due to a damaged door lock where the door wasPHOTO-2024-04-08-15-15-10.thumb.jpg.e1bc86955b1db91caf1ab5a35c9d17e1.jpg opened while vehicle is in D, any one has experience ofPHOTO-2024-04-08-15-14-46.thumb.jpg.b55349c237b2b5ff62bff1d91a8a7015.jpg this

  2. update - i got the job done at Borelasgamuwa and was there for the entire process, seems to be they are experts on this while i was there BMW Z4,X5 Audi A4 and believe it or not an Aston Martin also got the same job done, reasonable price and very fast and professional service.

  3. Hi all,

I bought a CLA 200 about 06 months back, suddenly vehicle is having a vibration at speeds exceeding 100Kmph when checked it seems the two front alloy wheels are slightly warped.

Two joints, one in Borelasgamuwa and another in Dehiwala said they were doing the relevant repair/correcting through a machine that takes around 4 hours.

I obtained two opinions from known reputed tyre shops, one guy said it is not advisable to correct it as it will harm the structure of the wheel while the other guy said there will not be a major structural impact.

As it stands i do not have a choice , much appreciated your advice on this

  4. used Mazda 06 for 2 years and merc for 2 years, driving pleasure - Mazda all the way, i used to go to Colonial for service and repairs back then (up to 2017) services provided was pretty decent. those cars did have a issue with front suspensions so better get them checked, also most of the cars were maintained by agents and used by people who loved cars so mostly shortcuts were not used.

Good luck once you own a mazda you will be a fan for life

@wildwise I am responding to a question you asked in a different thread.

Please do not cut the roof to fit a sunroof. You are going to botch it up. Our guys simply are not good at it. If you must have a sunroof....find a an entire roof (yes a half cut) of a car that had a sunroof and fit that on (remember...you need to get the entire roof (with the upholstery, switches, etc...) and then weld it at the factory weld points. If you weld in a roof at various points it can significantly comprimise the safety of the car.

Also...a sunroof is not that as it is hyped up to be. It effects vehicle cooling...and then maintaining it is another pain. Water leaks in to the cabin everytime the water drain holes get clogged...sunroof glass gets stuck and unstuck...etc...long and hard about getting one installed.

plus no functionality unless you are in Nuwaraeliya, owned two cars with sunroofs, may be opened the sun blind only three times in the last five years, that was my kid.

Firstly you seem to be downgrading, what year is your E200?

The C180/160 would be all 1.6l if you are looking at the 2016 model and the C200 would be a 2.0l, the CLA newer version was as you rightly said a 1.3l but with respectable horsepower figures.

A lot of people bought the second gen CLA for its looks and the price (first gen was closely priced to a C so buyers would have preferred the C to the CLA) hence the reason you will see a lot for sale. As I have always said the market is manipulated by the car sales people as they push only what they have.

The only issue I would foresee is the fact that the CLA with all its pretense is still smaller than the C Class with less headroom and claustrophobic rear seats. Some tall people who have a larger top frame will find it difficult to get in and out due to the rake of the A pillar. Some might feel the gear lever to be slightly cheap compared to the C Class

For the good things, the entertainment and displays are top notch. clear instrumentation and those customizable colour schemes and settings are still unmatched. Makes you feel younger and will definitely be a chick magnet (there I said it)

Thnx m8 mine is a 2011 so i thought its time for a change, in fact this is a for my wife, size etc. should be sorta ok,

  7. HI guys,

after 24 months 50K Km's later i have decided to part ways with my E200. my options are C180/200 2015-16 ish or CLA200 2018-19. CLA 200 is 1.3L engine and so many vehicles are currently put on market for sale. Can any expert give me feed back, are there any issues with the vehicle as so many are listed online for sale.

  8. Hi all,

My check engine light lit up after running about 100Km after recent service. Agents carried out a scan and said error is shown in the catalytic converter and was due to poor fuel quality, as per them about 30 vehicles came with the issue recently, They showed me photos of tar like substance clogging. error was deleted and they recommended to use an octane booster(Liquimoley) once and then a fuel tank additive injector cleaner to see if it will clear up.

As per them octane boosters should not be used regularly and Eco tablets is a big no.

I pumped 95 petrol throughout from IOC even during the peak of shortage, so now i think it is not possible to use Euro vehicles in Sri Lanka due to shortage of spares as well as poor fuel quality.

  9. Can anyone provide any guidance on using 92 Octane on Euro turbo engines. Merc and BMW agents strictly recommend not to use 92 or Octane boosters.

Will there be permanent harm to the engines. I have been pumping IOC Euro 03 for the past month.

  10. HI all,

My E200 suddenly would not start. There was no issues with the battery or starter motor. As per D*MO this is a common issue with 2010-2011 models, around 6-7 similar vehicles has come to them for repairs.

The repair cost quoted is around Rs.250K for the unit and programming.

I suggested to them that they should have at least sent an SMS to the registered owners from the system giving a warning to owners to take preemptive action.

Just shared in the forum if there are other owners and also any advise on the cost quoted by D*MO, it it reasonable. (Anyways i have told them to proceed with the repair)

There are number of assembly plants coming up. Mostly for  motor cycles and scooters. The govt policy is to encourage the value addition in Sri Lanka so that  to set off excise duty proportionate to the value addition.   Tyres, battery,  seats etc.  are locally sourced and in some light trucks bucket and silencer are also manufactured here. There are plans to get down bare body to paint here. So hope this policy stay for a while to establish an industry.

I know a guy who has got orders to manufacture some parts for local assembly of motorcycles of a reputed brand. I would think there would be more such SME's if local value addition to assembly is made mandatory

Shouldn't these guys be spending their time in working witht he government to actually come up with strageties to improve the country's economy (like..for example...trying to build up tech services, etc...) rather than waste time on compiling lists of vehicle prices ? Easiest is do what we do in pharmaceutical supply chains...set it at cost + a %

There is a bubble in the vehicle market. Finance institutions are funding people purchasing these vehicles at exorbitant prices. The debt burden on vehicle buyers are too high and down the line when vehicle prices drop they will stop paying.

These institutions are already stretched with Moratorium contracts. I would forecast a high Non performing asset ratio come March 2022 when debt moratorium end so the entire finance industry is at risk at the moment. If one company fail there will be a run on the deposits.

Bit too late by CBSL i guess for corrective action. Bunch of theorists who act as if they know everything but no practical action.

When you think that these jokers stop joking around this happens.

    https://www.dailymirror.lk/business-news/CB-to-propose-resumption-of-car-imports-paid-via-foreign-currency/273-222729

Its just a way of telling people to bring in their foreign currency. IMO there will be a lot of background work to be done. This statement has been going around for sometime and this has slowed down the used car market a bit as well. Thing is he never says when it will be implemented, just goes to say that he is suggesting to the government (and who exactly is he? the Central Bank Governor and not the Minister, and no vehicles doesn't fall under the central bank purview).

This will just invite the crooks and underhand people to bring in vehicles and not the people who need them. I saw a video of VIASL talking about getting two years credit from Japan if they are given a chance to import.

Being in the industry with manufacturer agents it has been very disheartening to see what is happening around, we still dont know what to do, we dont know what to tell the principals and dont know if they will revoke the authorization given by them to be their agent. A lot of agents had to dishonour the L/C's last year. Most have gone into the buying and selling business to stay afloat but these kind of stories create chaos in the market.

There has been a talk about the prices of these models, hence the reason the Wagon R's which were quoted at 7.0mil have dropped to 4.5 - 5.0mil range now. The vehicle valuers had started giving lower values in line with the Punchi Car Nivasa guys video and there was a talk of the CB changing the LTV on vehicles.

Do you think people in Sri Lanka will stick to the price controls? They couldn't even stick to the price controls on essentials such as sugar, rice, coconut etc...

I think there is a LTV cap coming on selected vehicle models, CBSL is collecting price and LTV data for last 03 years

Thanks everyone. Well, got some good news. Long story short, the dealership has agreed to refund the money back. However, they will have to sell the car again. we've requested the dealership to pay 50% of the car sale upfront and have an agreement in place for the balance with a timeframe set in place for them to sell the vehicle.

I would think they can sell the car at a inflated price now and get more profit
