  1. There was a nice Toyota Mark2 and a Cresta for sale recently in the 2.8mil range. Also there was another on FB a two tone one try that as well. Maybe a Galant will also be in your price range. @iRage there are still a few unmolested Primera P11's around but hard to find them.
  2. For me for that price point those days it was one of the best dashboards. Was sporty as well. I thought the AC controls would have helped. A guy I know did a full restoration of one, asked him if he wants to sell says no chance.
  3. Right on @john cooperThey were like lorries they say, imagine how the non turbo Bluebirds would have felt.
  4. Ooh... I thought this would be easy. Lets say they like this, you get up inside coffin and when you open the lid this would be the dashboard you see. The engine in the car that I wanted to go see was a 1.8l straight four with around 115hp I would say. The dashboard is illuminated. This is the second generation of the this particular model of which the first gen can be seen running around with 2.0l turbo Diesel engine. I presume we have a performance version of this in Sri Lanka with 4wd and a 20l Turbo engine. On the topic of the dashboard early exampled of this gen car had a dashboard similar to what you would see from a car from its family (one which I owned) So there you go 6 clues. If its still difficult I may share a pic of the head light
  5. Ok then have a go at this, lets see if I can confuse you people. I wont post the steering wheel as it will be a dead give away. I nearly bought one of these back in the day, simply because I loved the look and how rare these what threw me off was the 1.8l engine and the broken dashboard bits which were difficult to source.
  6. Oh boy, were they under the influence by any chance. Have so many such instances in my life having worked in the automobile field. Once a secretary of a big campus called and asked if we had a Puche, I was working with a guy who starts to laugh at the drop of a needle and you can imagine the whole office at that time. Another instance I was visiting a guy outstation and we were talking cars he was talking about some car and I was nodding as if I knew and my colleague was also playing along. When we came to the car to leave he asked ado machang did you know what the fellow was talking about and I was like no I dont, he was like why bung he was talking about a Porsche.... I dont blame the guy but he always gave us something to laugh about when we visited him or he visited us. So many stories of "vulchas kukulas", Karisler, Farking etc.. Those were good times.
  7. Because the Loom manufacturer is so good at what it does and brand name does a lot for purchase intent.
  8. Brightest star in the Hydra Constellation (Gen 4)
  9. Let @iRage go for it.
  10. Well I didnt zoom it earlier and the door lines looked like the ones found on Volvo / Fiat with no slant and another window to accompany them. Later on only I saw that its a double cab from looking at the pic.
  11. Oh its a double cab. That goes with July 20th.
  12. Luckily for me my brother has no plans of migrating although his wife has so much opportunities overseas rather than work in the government sector for a very low salary considering her specialty. I had to run it by him and confirm that he doesnt want to move out as my parents wellbeing was on the line. I wasn't expecting my bro and my parents to say ok to my plan. A lot of my colleagues in the aftersales have left for greener pastures, they get their visa in two weeks and are doing very well in New Zealand and Australia. Its just in my line of work we dont have that opportunity and we have to work to get the visa and wait for approvals. On the topic of the brain drain, we as Sri Lanka are talking big of bringing down EV's manufacturing cars locally etc, but the truth is all the experienced guys with proper training and certificates in new EV systems have left the country. Only the older guys have stayed. I dont know when our idiots will understand that EV's cannot be maintained by roadside garages and need special training and tools.
  13. Am sure there are lot of people who does this trip. Those elephants have not bothered people for all I know, unlike the ones you find in Kataragama side. You just have to drive carefully (means not going too fast and paying attention to your surroundings), if you encounter elephants just wait for them to move away do not honk they will be cool and calm if you dont bother them. If you happen to see a bus or lorry you can always go behind them, those guys know the area like the back of their hands.
  14. Interesting looking thing, I would say that its more European looking. Any chance of giving us a glimpse of the headlights?
  15. Whats the car you have? AGM batteries are used in vehicles that have these auto stop start systems, like the Mercs, BMWs, Audi's. They come as standard.
  16. Well let me say it for the first time here, I am also considering moving out. A lot of things are taken into account and what pushes me is related to my professional life. I have been in the automobile industry for almost 2 decades (yes am that old). I havent seen any good happening to he industry in Sri Lanka rather than it going down in the coming years with no legal imports (SL doesnt have money). It has been a frustrating 4 years, you do not get a salary increment, your earnings are limited, no career advancement. I have tried for other industries but sadly in Sri Lanka, most consider only the experience and contacts you have in that industry when considering your application (this was told point blank by a customer of mine) although they talk about diversity blah blah. Its just that it is difficult to start at the lower rung in another industry (not that I cant) where you will not have access to the current salary levels and it is better to stay at current. In the event you travel abroad you have a lot of options and can start your life again, even as a sales executive you can start life and work up the ladder. They will not ask you for specialist experience in a certain industry, if you have the qualifications and you can do the job thats all that they care about. I am still hopeful for the country but seeing all the bad that is going around I dont think Sri Lanka will emerge from the current corruption any time soon.
  17. Saw two unregistered EV's on test plates running in Battaramulla. All the badges were covered and couldnt find a vehicle to fit the design yet, any ideas?

  18. 1st vehicle in Europe to achieve NCAP 5 stars. A racetrack in the USA very popular in GT and other online races with the famous cork screw corner has the same name.
  19. Yes the lights, I wanted to post is sometime ago. There were few examples for sale so wasnt hard. Lets wait for the others, what happened to the newbie?
  20. Made by the European company of a US major manufacturer to AVENGE moRe sales from the Brit cars.
  21. I still cant understand how a leasing company gave a lease for something like this, surely the valuation guy should have raised a red flag. Go ahead and give us a new one to search.
  22. I just checked now. Thats shocking, and it has a lease as well. Who would do that? I mean you have to be a complete idiot and whoever buys also has to be an idiot.
  23. Yes interesting indeed.
  24. Just like our banana republic with organic fertilizer, Ethiopia has become the first country to ban ICE vehicles. The reason just like in us they have a huge Foreign exchange deficit and fuel is very expensive. How will it work out without no infrastructure in place? They claim they get 97% of electricity from renewable methods.

    1. iRage

      iRage

If I am not mistaken, Ethiopia produces A LOT of its energy from waste and biogases...so the whole 97% generation thing is quite true. However, like you said the problem is reach...I believe only a small % of the population actually have access to electricity (50% or so). Partly due to infrastructure spread and partly due to economic reasons.
Now considering that almost every car you see on the road are ICE cars, in the city and in the villages, I wonder how this is going to work. Heck there are many villages where people don't have electricity but do have some sort of run down car to get them to the nearest market/city/etc....

      Gummybr

Thing is iRage, this stinks like the recent fertilizer ban by you know who. People dont think on the long term, if countries like the US, UK and even China cannot cope with the charging requirements with the existing infrastructure how can a country like Sri Lanka or Ethiopia overcome these challenges? The so called experts have so many stories to say about EV. I presume you didnt see the FB live of a so called EV expert in Sri Lanka after the carsguide Australia testing of an EV vs ICE (same make and model) where the EV was more expensive.

    3. iRage

      iRage

Oh yeah...I agree with the fact that this sounds completely stupid as a large percentage of the population simply cannot run without petrol. Outside of Addis it is going to be a huge issue. Especially in the farming/industrial regions.
The very few rich people will be able to run EVs and that is about it. Heck...the government it self..they have  HUGE fleet of the usual cars...are they going to replace all of that ?

They do create most of their electricity using renewal sources...and they did have a sensible electrification plan which involved changing over to electric and hydrogen busses and other public transport systems. They even piloted EV busses and offered commuters free transport as well. Sad to hear that the government took such a drastic step as this is going to derail whatever chances their "original" EV strategy had.
