The first Rolls Royce Spectre goes to drum roll please...... Ukraine! And a Minister as well. Supposedly $600,000/-, reminds me of another country where the story is the same where people suffer and the politicians enjoy themselves.
-
Still wondering how in the world Ukraine is going to be paying back for the weapons they have been asking from the EU and NATO. Maybe they could ask Russia to repair the buildings and compensate for the lives and livelihoods lost if Russia loses. But for sure they wont pay for the weapons from the US and the NATO.

WRC is going to ditch the hybrid systems and go pure ICE to reduce costs. They will save on weight and save money building cars making it easier to get into racing. They will however look at full EV rally class later on.
-
Saw two unregistered EV's on test plates running in Battaramulla. All the badges were covered and couldnt find a vehicle to fit the design yet, any ideas?
-
Just like our banana republic with organic fertilizer, Ethiopia has become the first country to ban ICE vehicles. The reason just like in us they have a huge Foreign exchange deficit and fuel is very expensive. How will it work out without no infrastructure in place? They claim they get 97% of electricity from renewable methods.
-
If I am not mistaken, Ethiopia produces A LOT of its energy from waste and biogases...so the whole 97% generation thing is quite true. However, like you said the problem is reach...I believe only a small % of the population actually have access to electricity (50% or so). Partly due to infrastructure spread and partly due to economic reasons.
Now considering that almost every car you see on the road are ICE cars, in the city and in the villages, I wonder how this is going to work. Heck there are many villages where people don't have electricity but do have some sort of run down car to get them to the nearest market/city/etc.... -
Thing is iRage, this stinks like the recent fertilizer ban by you know who. People dont think on the long term, if countries like the US, UK and even China cannot cope with the charging requirements with the existing infrastructure how can a country like Sri Lanka or Ethiopia overcome these challenges? The so called experts have so many stories to say about EV. I presume you didnt see the FB live of a so called EV expert in Sri Lanka after the carsguide Australia testing of an EV vs ICE (same make and model) where the EV was more expensive.
-
Oh yeah...I agree with the fact that this sounds completely stupid as a large percentage of the population simply cannot run without petrol. Outside of Addis it is going to be a huge issue. Especially in the farming/industrial regions.
The very few rich people will be able to run EVs and that is about it. Heck...the government it self..they have HUGE fleet of the usual cars...are they going to replace all of that ?
They do create most of their electricity using renewal sources...and they did have a sensible electrification plan which involved changing over to electric and hydrogen busses and other public transport systems. They even piloted EV busses and offered commuters free transport as well. Sad to hear that the government took such a drastic step as this is going to derail whatever chances their "original" EV strategy had.

Lewis Hamilton broke the internet last night! What a story, what a change.

Did a camping tour to Hulangala on Sunday, its amazing how far the small Alto will take you where some so called SUV's bottom out.

Considering indian roads filled with meteor craters and that the Maruti alto is India's favourite little car, I think the ground clearence was prioritized. The Kwid, Celerio, S-Presso,and such indian-market targetted cars always have a higher than usual ride height (compare a Maruti Swift and JDM Swift side by side)
And also the overhangs are low on the alto. Every wheel is close to the corners of the body, that makes things easy as well.
Nice pic and happy miles ahead!
-
Had one in 2015 (14.25 bnew… good times)
Thing was plucky. Could really shame a lot of crossovers. Ground clearance was almost suvish. Prado who?! 😅
I even took one up a rock in kekirawa next to a big lake, and I almost left it there because I drowned and almost didn’t make it.
Will post a pic sometime

AL forums have lost out the regulars and seems to be spammed by businessmen/women from Sri Lanka and the world over.

being a petrol head in Sri Lanka is not as fun as it used to be - plus most of the regulars have migrated. Still this is the last online community in Sri Lanka where sanity prevails. The communities on social media are the domain of buyyas and cut-price influencers and their 'jeewithya jayagatta' posts that involve a picture of a dodgy (almost illegal) defender.
-
Car hobby is now a fools errand in Sri Lanka with the current situation. There is practically very little ways to enjoy it without losing your sanity or large amounts of money. I really dont want this site to die because of the tons of valuable knowledge and resources saved thanks to it and its one of the only place where realists and people with sense meet.
I have made some close golden friends/brothers here as well
-
@AVANTE when did losing one's sanity and large amounts of money becoming mutually exclusive ?
-
After three months of ownership I took the Alto for a 1700km drive, with 3 people & luggage for 4nights onboard it didnt miss a beat and was quite happy to sit at 100kmph on the highway from Mattala to Kadawatha. There were no complaints from the occupants as well. I think its a good stop gap car

MotoGP comes to India this weekend, its the closest we have of seeing a live MotoGP race but its very expensive, more expensive than Malaysia.
-
Sold me Rav4 because of certain future plans, now I am wondering what to do? Should I rent a car for a few days or buy a small cheap (reliable) run about that I can sell quickly. Not for daily driving but to go about the weekend shift and probably one or two trips. Heart says rent, but its going to be quite expensive.

Okay...did some digging.....in 1992 the model was not discontinued. Production for a lot of export markets was discontinued in Japan and a convertible was added.
In 1995 the GA series (i.e. 3rd gen Cultus) was released but in Japan they sold it alongside the AA44 series (i.e. the 2nd gen as in the advert). Only thing is the 3rd gen was sold as Cultus Cresent and was sold as a larger sedan/wagon/3-door hatchback and this was retained as a smaller variant. So this Cultus was in production till 1999

Seeing all these mega horsepower vehicles coming into the market (not in Sri Lanka) it makes me wonder if we need all that horsepower? After all most cars will be driven around town in traffic as poser vehicles just like how people used to parade around in massive 4WD SUV's. A future where you dont drive your vehicle wont need all that 1000hp
-
RIP Dietrich Mateschitz, what you did to the motor racing community is great with all the support that you have given in all kinds of motor racing.

We Sri Lankans are a crazy bunch I tell you. Everyone is now jacking up the prices of EV's. Before the 9th of May people were wondering how to charge their EV's and looked at going off grid, then with the diesel shortage they were trying to sell the diesel vehicles and go for petrol, then the petrol shortage happens people again start looking for diesel and EV prices started going up. Now when petrol is back and diesel ques are eminent they want to switch back. I just checked the market for a i3 and they are now quoting 14mil+ for a 2013 vehicle (atleast you can still do around 100kms) and the Leaf that can achieve only around 40-50kms have also shot up in price, are they worth the trouble you have to go through finding charge stations if you want to go outstation?
-
I wonder if any of the governing types have an ounce of common sense. They restrict imports of spares, lubricants and then do not carry enough fuel to run one of the main sectors in an economy. They talk about electric cars when there are 10 hour power cuts, they should jolly well know that electric cars are more expensive than their fuel powered siblings apple to apple.
-
Yeah I think right now the most ardent supporters too have switched sides - I mean anyone with an ounce of sense remaining would - only those who are indirectly benefitting from the chaos still are in favor. The EV boys were quite vocal during the first few days of the fuel queues - but now with the power cuts have gone silent. Not quite a queue but there's more traffic/movement near the charging points too

Was browsing through the quick site, and lo and behold a Toyota Celica pops up. Funny thing I typed Subaru and this pops up.

Anyone watched Clarkson's Farm? Leaving aside the man, it shows how other countries have grown in terms of farming and makes you want to start a farm of your own.

Well you see he would have made more money if he didnt have to spend money on the hired hands and his other ventures. His costs included the Farm Shop (building), fish pond and his vegetable patches. Also you got to understand that bad weather hampered the crops and lost about GBP 90,000/- there compared to previous year.
-
Yes. But the thing is when you have a 1000hectars with literally dozens of fields to farm, you do need hired help don't you ? The previous guy who ran the darm also gad Caleb to work for him and Gerry or whatever.
Yes. He did waste a lot of money on his antics for showbiz value, but even cthen most otherc armers do not have such large farms. So their crops will be smaller thus their intake.

It was a nice scene yesterday when I saw 3 mint S60 Toyota Crowns in convoy on the Ministry of Defence road, looked a spectacle.

I wonder if there is some sort of update interval. Tried clearing the cache at my end..but nothing...no change what so ever -

So yesterday I was heading home in my Samurai whilst stuck in traffic near Thalawathugoda I saw a 32sri G Wagon on the opposite side of the road, I turned to look at it and lo and behold the guy was admiring my Samurai.

http://www.dailymirror.lk/99265/tax-on-vehicles-will-not-be-changed-lvia - So this means the general public has to buy the old stock at a higher price. A customer once told of a tale of how a vehicle in the showroom which he verbally confirmed went up in price by more than 10mil when he went to pay the money.

Never knew that WTCC was this interesting. Old guard vs the new, super exhibition of driving.
