  1. Mercedez the one with the vertical lights? (W115?)
  2. Was wondering whether they'll ban Lamborghini selling their hardcore Balboni editions in the US... They have less gadgets right?
  3. Yes there were quite a few. But in the hands of experienced drivers the story is different. Once Navy toppled a Defender after just two days after delivery. But it shows as you pointed out earlier that its the driver who controls the vehicle not the vehicle that controls the driver.
  4. Hmm, I thought the new Prado was supposed to be better equipped than the Disco when it comes to cornering. (Atleast thats what they said in their promotional Videos showing how well the Prado corners against the outgoing Disco3) Stability control is what keeps the vehicle upright at fast cornering, and if it rolls like that then problem is in the Stability Control not working. Devinda how does your Defender corner at speed without any electronic help? Or for that matter any of those PSD / MSD Defenders.... And who ever brakes in the corner should be shot as what it does is it brakes the momentum from the corner, your supposed to brake before the corner and accelerate in the corner.
  5. Defender will be roughly about 11mil. Last time I checked Toyota quoted 19.5mil for Lower spec Prado (2.7l) and 27.5mil for the 4.0l.
  6. Happy birthday Bugatti, have a good one.
  7. Machang it must be better to drive than the others. Its classed the best by UK auto journalists. 2.5l engine with 170bhp should be good enough even in auto form. Its a 5 speed auto aint it? I was wondering why they dont bring the 4x4 version, so at last they are bringing it down. I saw the Mitsubishi L200 smart cab and it looks kinda odd. don't think it has the same room as the others in the back.
  8. Sorry for earlier comment but macho scrutinizers cannot actually check the standard of the roll cage right? I mean they will have to go through a series of testing. So its all upto the competitiors to make their machines safer for them. Sending you a PM on roll cages.
  9. You will have to wait till May, but I think it'll be only for vehicles below 1600cc. We'll have to wait and see.
  10. You have to mark the wheels of the car before you move it off the road. Yes you need to call the police (better you than anybody else). And the insurance company has to be notified. If you are fully insured then the insurance will pay the other party if not you can come to an agreement then and there and pay them or go to courts. (Normally insurance will pay only if your at fault) All in all its good if you can settle the matter there itself or you will face a lot of trouble and waste a lot of time at courts.
  11. I have seen one of these on Ward Place and recently in Koswatta (Nawala) driven by a lady, had english numbers. Also I believe Dilantha Malagamuwa raced one of these in Sri Lanka. Not sure if there are any for sale and for your price.
  12. Lets hope so. But is there anyway that the scrutinzers check these things? I dont think the scrutinizers don't check these things so a Hora roll cage can be put in.
  13. Woah machang, I think they have more 110 in cab services than the Nissan's. So expect them to be clocked. In both cases it will be very hard to find properly maintained ones like Peri says. And its true. You can get a 110 for around 1.2 - 1.3mil in nasty condition. Even the ones going for higher prices will have issues if they aren't properly maintained. Its all the same with popular japanese cars as they just mean a mode of transport from a -b for some people. Toyota maybe the worlds most sold car but keep in mind that until the end 1990's they were no where near Nissan's in Sri Lanka. Due to the lethargy of agents (or sales and marketing) during the late 90's they lost a lot of the market. (Maybe because they were doing good with Maruti) I do hope they get their act together and come up with the newer models coming up. that ends history. I personally drive a Corolla 110, but I wont say its the best car but then again I do have a soft spot towards Nissan's. So in this case, what matters is what the person buying the car wants and its very hard to choose between the two for me.
  14. Mayb a "hora" roll cage...
  15. Maybe because mine's a Jap spec and yours a brand new import? It had 185/55R14s when I got it but changed to 185/65/14s there was a change but couldnt match my friends who was running the same tyre size. Must really check on this as I have seen older 91 series and 100series having the same clearance issues. Shocks maybe?
  16. Two good cars. Yes it might be easier to sell the 110 but the FB15 is a newer model (right?). From experience FB15 has better ground clearance than 110 (I find my 110 grounding if I put 5 people and try to go over a hump, but not so with B15. FB15's generally do around 8 - 9kmpl (from experience vs my friends car) mine does 10kmpl. Happy hunting.
  17. Tried too hard to get back his position? The first race was interesting till the 1st corner where AP decided to play safely with the dust. 2nd race was very much interesting until Pasindu did the turtle. I think AP did the right thing by getting ahead before 1st corner to avoid driving in the dust. The presentation ceremony was a real laugh with people getting their trophies before actually completing the 2nd race.
  18. From what I heard; 1st Indika Sanjaya - LR 2nd ?? - LR (some new name) 3rd ?? - Jeep
  19. What exactly do you want to get? Also there was another thread that gave all the pros and cons of vehicles in that budget range. Speaking on experience the Liana is a good spacious car, good value for money and is ok on fuel as well. If you are looking at one try to get the facelift (the one with the conventional dash board as opposed to the digital) as it looks better. Brand New came with 15" alloys and was fully loaded. Swift also is a good buy, good ground clearance and good on fuel and power, you maybe able to get hold of a Brand New registered at that price as well. Its best if you could specify what your actually looking at (comfort, space, fuel economy)
  20. If they do not have an agent they will check it on the net (yes they do have an IT branch, and some of them are very good with the www) You cannot get the tax rates just off any site or anything as the site will only show the customs duty which is about 28% but it grows due to the other levies such as excise, PAL, SRL, VAT, NBT......... and so on. Its better if you get hold of a guy who knows the subject. There is no tax difference for cars and SUV's its all taxed according to engine capacity as per my earlier post.
  21. I think xxx has answered your question about Petrol. Therefore it will be less than 1600cc 217% and more than 1600cc 287%. Diesel it doesnt matter as it will be 515% for either 2300cc car or 3000cc SUV. racerx; it goes like this; ex: vehicle value given by agent (brand new value in 2001) is Rs.1.3mil (exchange rate converted at todays rate) into duty 515% - Rs. 6,695,000/= depreciation is 60% - So you will need to pay Rs. 4,017,000 as duty. Hope its all clear.
  22. There is no below 1500cc its now below 1600cc and duty comes to around 217% Diesel I'm really not sure about the below 2000cc capacity or whether something of that kind exists. But on vehicles like the Defender and so on it'll be 515%. Above 1600cc I presume would be in the higher bracket of 287% or so (need to check)
  23. Its now 3 1/2 years not 5 years.
  24. The duty on the Diesel vehicles is 515% of the CIF value (not what you give but according to agent valuation) and it is then depreciated 10% for each year upto a maximum of 60%. So in your case it will be just 60% of depreciation. But just see if its financially beneficial to you first before you import. Speak to Toyota and get an idea of how much they valued the Prado diesel in 2001 and then do your calculations. Also I dont remember for sure but sometimes you cannot transfer it for a certain period of time.
  25. Happy birthday Grand Civic, have a good one.
