So began the tedious process of paint removal. As some of you know from before, I have a paranoia of using sand blasters-hence the use of hand grinder, paint remover and elbow grease method.

While the gearbox was out, I had the interior gutted out for re-upholstering. The wooden floorboards(marine plywood) taken out too. There is some surface rust on the frame where the paint has peeled off but nothing serious. Floorboards too are re-usable.

The car is in good mechanical condition as it was a constant runner over the years. Engine has good compression and the gears engage well. So nothing much to on that side before paint. I had them change all oils, replaced with new steering rack boots, brake cylinders and shoes, clutch plate, new distributor and plug leads, replaced all washers on master brake/clutch pump etc....

It was always possible to export all cars 1 SRI 1 onwards. The ban was for all cars registered before that. This was brought on by the Vintage Car Club's heavy lobbying in the 80s,90s after a lot of rare cars were exported. Now they are removing that law and allowing all cars including single and double letter 'english number cars' (Z,CE,EN...) to be exported. We stand to lose a lot of very precious cars and models if this proceeds. for very short-term, very negligible financial gain.

As I said, The car has been with us for nearly 50 years. It was bought by my father in the early 70s while it was in original red colour, who then painted it black in the late 80s. Some photos over the years.

Most older members here will remember my MG 2 sri 355. The car has been with us for almost half a century. It has been in many of late Lester James Peiris movies most notably 'Delowak Athara' where its basically a main actor alongside Tony Ranasinghe.(The plot is based around a hit and run accident caused by my car). I inherited this car, So I didn't buy it...And I'm paying other people to do it up. So I sure am not building it either. I know it looks good in black, but I want it in original red which is the colour on reg book.

This list needs to be updated. I sold the Frederique Constant and Cartier. Added a Speedmaster 311.30.42.30.01.006 aka 'the moonwatch' aka 'sapphire sandwich' Also got a 2000s Datejust 16234 with WG bezel and diamond hour marker dial.

I don't know why this deserves a separate thread. Especially one with my name on the title. Post whoring would have sufficed. I really don't have anything else to say on this matter.

Writing is not really my profession, Just a very,very fulfilling side hustle. Owner of the Batmobile is a good friend. We are both second generation car collectors as our dads were among the first to start collecting cars as a hobby in SL back in the day. So that,and the fact I also have a collection myself, with experience in ownership and restoration helps other owners be at ease when handing me the keys I guess. Just to be clear I didn't "thrash" the car. Just drove it fairly hard,at a decent pace that I was certain to not have any adverse effect on the mechanicals. I know how to show respect to the machine and have fun at the same time, especially when in a classic. I think that's what separates me from most other auto journos. Trust me, I was well aware that it was a super rare and worth 400,000$. Edit - Found a pic . Mods pls remove if it violates forum rules regarding other publications.

I got to drive this thing hard for a good 50KMs on twisty mountain roads. A peach of a car. Handles like a gem. Engine and Gearbox were just sublime. Cannot give enough praise.
