  1. Hi Experts, one of my friends has a Toyota Premio, the car's 'idling stop' is not working. the car engine keeps running when it's idil where it should cut off.

    • The 'Auto cut off ' button is on.
    • Car's battery has 65% energy left

What might be the cause? any similar experience? please share

    Thankx

If you are considering the eco sport I think your looking at a registered model which came in around 2014-2015 or so

The Good, it's comfortable, very stable in the highway, a lot less wobbly than something japanese like a CRV. Much less body roll, excellent ground clearance for its size, suspension is a bit on the firm side but in a good way, feels heavy specially when closing a door, if you can find a titanium model things like cruise, climate Control, keyless start are included. Really nice factory fitted sound system. Fuel economy is around 7-8. Overall compared to other vehicles in its price range this is really good value. The agents are really good too!

The bad, it has one of the most frustrating 5 speed automatic gearboxes that I have come across. Not sure if it's a DCT or AMT but either way shifts are painfully slow when you want it to change, for example when you overtake, it makes all kinds of grinding noises when it shifts. But if your traveling in the city or just cruising on the highway it's quite alright. Secondly it's made in India. There are some minor quality issues which you won't find in something like a Focus.

If you can live with a annoying gearbox it's a very nice car. Resale value might be alright since it's a SUV regardless of brand.

Thanks for info. The not so smooth transmission will be an issue. I also came across Ford Fiesta Eco boost 2016. Any thoughts on this specialy the gear box compatibility on our local roads.

Ok I am getting it tomorrow! Thanks for the advice!! Civic sucks

Hi, did you buy the Elantra? It's been 6 years down the road. Any openions on fuel / spare parts and maintenance?

  4. Hi Experts

Need your opinion to choose a family vehicle. I travel around 60 KM daily to work and back mostly on the hi-way and make long distance trips ones a month with family. Preferably a car that's manufactured after 2011. Should be able to stretch the budget a bit more if it's worth it. I'm trying to keep away from the Hybrids at time.

The Toyotas seems over priced so I kind of selected the following models:

    • KIA Sportage
    • Ford Ecosport
    • Korando
    • Honda FD4
    • Hyundai Elantra

    What I'm looking for

    • Comfortable/ Reliability
    • Maintains and spare parts
    • After sales value after 3 years
    • Fuel above 10 Km/L

However, I'm not fixed with any particular model If there are other options which you think I should explore please let me know. Will be great if you'll shed some light.

    Agreed.

But over time we always want to try something new. Maximum I can hold on to a vehicle is 5 years because we are living in a revolutionizing world. It's my personal opinion ?

    Hi Dasunh,

3 years passed by since you made the above comment, did you buy the Tevoli, if so which one (diesel or petrol) how were the maintainance and repairs did it meet your expectations? Im considering to buy a second hand tevoli or korando, so your thoughts will help to make a decision.

Though people try to downgrade non-japanese/euros, reality is quite different. For example Korean Vehicles. I used a SSangyong Korando for 6 years and sold few days back. The vehicle did not trouble me at all,  given services, gear oil changes, fuel filter change were done timely. Though I did not earn a profit by selling the vehicle I fully enjoyed its use during past 6 years. Frankly, it gave less troubles than the Honda Fit we use as our second vehicle......

The problem of Sri Lankans is expecting unbreakable vehicles and considering the purchase of vehicle as a profitable investment!!!!!. We have totally got used for second hand/recondition parts from Japan for repairs and consider the use of a  Genuine part as a burden.

Hi, tell me more about the Korando, how is the fuel economy, comfort compaired to honda fit, and how much did you loose after 6 years. ?

  7. Hi Kira,

I won't be able to answer your question because I have not got any experience with the KIA sportage, but seeking your opinion on the KIA sportage, I'm hoping to buy a 2011 model so your input will be highly valued as a KIA user. Do share the pros and cons please.

Swift, Vitz or second hand GP5

I recently purchased the new swift. Having owned a GP5 as well, here is my take on the suggestions.

    Swift Pros and Cons

    Pros,

looks very good with the RS trim

It’s fast, Excellent low down torque , very good steering, good 6 speed gearbox, 4 disks and light chassis

handles well for a family car, low engine noise even at high revs

lots of goodies for the price, adaptive cruise, auto led low\ high beams with high beam assist, only thing it lacks for a car of its league is lane steering assist

    cons,

suspension is a bit on the firm side, bit bumpy on bad roads

    less resale value

fuel consumption 11 at best in city

    Vitz

    Pros,

    its a “Toyota” resale value

    comfortable, quiet

    very good fuel economy

    cons

    boring to drive

    basic features

    GP5

    pros

Its a Hybrid, will give you the best fuel economy

Fantastic dual clutch gearbox (Silky smooth changes where you won’t even notice, gear changers are much much faster than the swift)

It is fast , faster than the swift provided the battery is charged fully

Handles well , comfortable , due to the suspension being less firmer than the swift it’s more comfortable

    good resale value

    Cons,

engine can be very loud at high revs

low down torque is less and have to rev it a bit to come to speed

    less goodies than the swift

     hybrid battery ?

Which one would you pick first from the above Shift, Vitz or GP5?

  9. Thankx Flying Fox the informative write up.

I heard the Honda GP5, Grace and Vezel have the same clutch issue, In fact a guy who bought a Vezel sold his one after coming across this issue in 2015 and another replaced the gearbox on his Grace last month the mileage was 30k. Stafford had mentioned it's due to the city traffic that these gear box fails. However not heard the same from GP5 how far this can be true?

Thanks zeem for your recon on Suzuki xbee but it's not my style. ?

  10. Yes are correct A1 is 55m. It should me KIA Sportage 2011. Today i test drove Boleno the pickup was impressive. The breaks were a bit hard which resulted in more stiff ride compaired to the smoothness on my current honda fit.

  11. Hi Guys,

Thinking of selling my Honda fit GP1 -10th Anniversary and looking for recomendations for a family car / suv between 4-4.5M. Few models caught my attention was Kia Rio, SWIFT, BOLENO, AUDI a1, civic 2008, KIA sportage 2011. Not worried about fuel but concerned in safety, power, reliability and handling. Drive 60Km per day on week days to work on hi-way. Ones a month to Kandy.

Please share your thoughts. I would sell it off in 3 years.

  12. Thankx tiv. Can you share your experience with Leaf when you traveled to kandy. How was the pulling power at Kadugannawa? a guy told it will not climb hills, is it true?

  13. Yes, i did read that. Which was a good read. He was addressing 'G grade' I need to know about the other models aswell because they are priced differently with different options. Appreciate if anyone can help me.

  14. Hi. Im planning to buy a Nissan Leaf 2013/2014 but Confused with all the models like S Grade, G Grade, X Arrow, Tecna, azeo ect. To add more confusion there is Uk and Japanese ver. Can anyone tell me the difference / features of these models.

  15. Hi,

Today Unimo quoted following prices for Viva,

    Pressure plate:Rs 9627

    Clutch plate: Rs 9850

    Clutch Bearing: Rs 9612

Where as I inquired from Panchikawatte they quoted me both pressure plate and clutch plate Rs 7000 from Valeo . Does any body know what is the OEM brand for perodua?

May I know your mileage and the month & year you purchased the car?

Did you check the parts with Janatha Motors, Panchikawatta( 071-3190234) or with Thai Motors (077-7919777)?

Hi. Did you buy the above mentioned clutch/pressure/bearings? If was it from uni motors or any other brand?

  16. Hi Guys,

Thanks for the quick reply. sorry about the "K' / km[/s and all that suff.

Anyways, few stuff to clear out. when I mentioned 'Low maintainece' it does not mean I'm looking for a Maruti. If you guys can give me a figure (Rs.) for an average - full servive for an Audi / Mazda I should be able to decide. And I heard the europien model does not require service for every 5000 km is this ture? correct me if I'm wrong.

  17. Hi Guys,

Seeking for your expert openion in buying/ changing my car.

My budget is 2.7 M and my expections are

    • Low maintainance
    • Economical (around 10 - 13 kmpl)
    • Resale value

My initial idea was to get a Honda Fit Hybrid (2nd hand) but thought its maintainence and battery replacement will cost me a foutune.

Audi A4 - 2003, Mazda - 2004 caught my interest, will be great if anyone out there who is using a older model give some pointers on the Fuel / Maintainence / Spare Parts cost on these models or on similar range.

I'm looking for a somwhat bigger car.

Hope to see your expert openion on this.
