  1. Given your budget most of the cars in your list will be 8-10 years old and would have covered over 100K km needing attention in some areas. Since you are going to cover approximately 50K km annually why don't you look at something brand new with agent warranty which would give you trouble free motoring for 3-4 years. If you go used you will have to factor repairs unless you change your vehicle every year or so.
  2. I wouldn't recommend anything above 16" that would ruin the ride will be prone to scrapes. And tire replacement cost will also need to be factored every inch of diameter will increase the cost by 40-50%
  3. Hope you have deep pockets. Things go wrong with age. Most of them near completion of the warranty. Best is to check with the agent they have a comprehensive test which is not expensive. Macan would be a better bet if you want a Porsche.
  4. If you are using the car only in City, has no intention of going up country with full up. For you car is a tool to get from A to B and does not derive any pleasure from driving by all means go ahead Pay Rs. 500-600K less than what you would have paid for the 1.5L, that would be the price you will get at resale. I'm taking resale as that would be the priority of typical Axio / Premio / Allion buyer
  5. Only advantage i can think of is bird droppings and oxidization. Other vise a good wax will give a better look and dust and water protection and peace of mind not having to worry about your expensive ceramic coating.
  6. I do tend to agree. My better half drives a Corolla Sp. with CVT. When you are in sport mode progress is fast and the engine drone is acceptable. It does not have the 1st manual gear as the 2.0L so you cant have aggressive launch. It came with pedal shift which does not do much except when you want to slow down going down hill. Bloody thing has a habit of overriding you the moment you need that extra revs. But when you think of the issues with DCT/DSG and poor MPG of conventional autos in Colombo heavy traffic, i believe it is a small price to pay. I remember she has a March K11 with a CVT long time back and when you want spirited driving i used to put it on S and increase the audio volume.
  7. If it is Toyota Lanka imported and maintained and you like the car don't bother about it. You might lose the opportunity and will newer find a GLi again
  8. Good number of 141s were bought by doctors and govt. servants. Majority of govt. servants who brought them were entitled for official transport hence low mileage. Fuel economy no where near the 1.5L CVT (Axio/Allion/Premio) especially in heavy traffic. Manual a/c will also contribute to this as most of the time compressor will be running (not as efficient as the Auto/ Climate control) You get 175mm of ground clearance this is modern SUV territory when you compare with current JDMs Firm suspension one of the better handling Toyotas Bullet proof built quality and even if something goes wrong you can source genuine parts from Thailand for fraction of the cost. We have one for the last 12+ years with only a suspension overhaul.
  9. DX basic trim, GL better trim more options, higher price, better resale Go for the GL if you can afford it If you are buying the DX pay 10-20% less
  10. Finding a GLi in SL will be as looking for hens teeth only hand full around. Majority are post 2010 Thailand Manufactured Manuals. I have seen only a single GLi 2007-8
  11. ECU could be programmed keep the engine at sweet spot in a CVT. For instance in the economy mode it will keep the revs around 1500-2500 and in Sport mode 3000-4000 going up and over 6000 on full throttle. You do not get the kick in the but feeling of a DCT or conventional auto or a manual for that matter. But progress can be very rapid. This will most probably have the 1st Manual gear for quick take off available in some Toyota CVTs which might solve the launch.
  12. Have been looking for a MX-5 in SL. Only handful in SL, most of them are molested good ones are not for sale. ?
  13. Last i remember similar Toyota filters was on a diesel Caldina, original was with a plastic frame and a rubber beading, replacement frame was fully rubber with a separator. Even i have newer seen this glue strip.
  14. Not totally agree, we have quite a few Allions/ Premios used by our staff (personal vehicles) imported new maintained with lot of TLC. Most of transfer hands though personally without even advertising.
  15. Japan on picky on their funded projects mostly because of corruption. Generally their funding is with softer terms without ulterior motives compared to China. Most of the Japan funded projects in SL got scrapped because there were no room for corruption to the extent our politicians wanted.
  16. And this gets worse, biggest scam I've heard and the extent one goes to cheat. Buy a car give it on rent clock 50-60k per year Half way through change tires and keep originals Prior to emission check clock the car back to 6-7k, do a service at the agent. Do this for 2-3 years, do a nice valet, refit original tires and sell the car. A car with with perfect history low mileage 20-30K with agent maintained records and emission history, actual mileage 150-160K Oh by the way they generally replace the steering and the gear knob Hope this scam can be checked with ECU data
  17. Get agent maintained. If not inspection by the agent. 1.8T had engine sludge issues as far as i know. If you have a higher budget go for a Mazda 6, more comfortable and roomy, plus bullet proof built quality.
  18. You can't if you want navigation use your phone it is much better
  19. Most likely would have traveled to the moon and back These cars were used as cabs/ rented cars and by people who did long distances.
  20. Have not seen a single petrol X1 (2012-2013) majority are much older Diesel and were brought on permits.
  21. Plenty around if you really look around. Average car would have done 60-100K if you are looking at 2012-2013 I knew of few imported on permits in 2013 which were grabbed on personal sales and few hours after advertising. Combination of economy/ comfort/ reliability and resale has never been matched by any other car.
  22. Have a Canon G1010 with ink tanks Printer cost was around Rs, 17K Ink Bottles Rs. 2000-2500 each and can take quite a lot of prints
  23. As far as Octane is concern you should be ok You will need to decide factoring economy whether it is worth extra Rs. 30+ as you will not gain on kmpl. There will be higher harmful emissions and engine wear and tare due to high sulfur content in 92. Besides it gives maximum allowable as standard and not actual. Me I always go with 92 unless specifically recommended by manufacturer. Newer had any issues with any of my cars.
