    Ads

Actually you can just not apply the filter.. and all active adds show up as in the past...

    Ads

I too think this is the reason... The oldest add right now is less than 30 days. It's a business decision the site owner makes on add expiry, so I dont think we can/should try to influence anything there. After all we're all freeloading off that ad-money in the end
  4. Yep, if 50 years ago you asked your grandfather about buying a car with an automatic transmission, or a Korean made car he would have insisted you didn't. Come back to modern times, if your grandfather stays in touch with modern automotive technology he would recommend a 'decade old allion' too rather than a cutting-edge hybrid or a Chinese made car. The point is there are some brands(countries) and new technologies that take time to mature and be reliable. So if you're on a limited budget, and you're a newbie to cars do you want to be experimenting with unknown technologies or unreliable brands?
  5. Your "if it was not for the tax scheme..." hypothetical is pretty obvious. But the issue is your fantasy is just that, a fantasy. But at the same time your basis for buying "something else new" is a mechanical issue that was detected and sorted out in 4 days? (less if the 1st mechanic did the job correctly). What's the "something else new" you propose? Micro Panda? An alto? Have you spoken to someone who's bought a Panda? I genuinely feel bad for them. Micro takes people's money and indefinitely delay delivery. And when inquired the customers are treated like dogs begging for leftover food scraps. And once they get their precious 'new' cars they can be assured to face door handles that break off, head/fog lights that stop working, rattling body parts, hand-brakes that jam after 3-4 days of idle, premature clutch replacements, premature fan replacements, and my favorite, ants eating rubber parts. And you think the warranty on your 'something new' is great? Numerous owners' door handle started breaking off.. You would think that since its "ape dei" which is locally made they'd just swap it with a new one right? He was asked to goto a service centre report it, after with the center will write to HQ get approval issue the part after which the owner can go get the new part. All of which they estimate would take a few weeks. Doesn't the Allion issue you quoted sound like peanuts now? Clearly all cars break down... So if I'm gonna goto a garage eventually, I prefer to drive a older nicer car than the "something new" you propose..
  6. seriously?!?! I stand corrected then. I guess there's a CarinaLover out there too
  7. Contrary to belief, even self-proclaimed presea lovers after years/months/weeks wake up one morning and sell them in a heartbeat. So it's not impossible to find. And let's be realistic. An MP doesn't use his permit to buy a Maruti 800 right? Thats the same reason one wouldnt waste a blue permit on a Presea. Anyway, with the intention of not dragging another thread to the dump by splashing Presea all over it, let's drop this. p.s: I'm not using green fonts for fun. If you'd observed, we have (or had) a practice of using green/blue for OT discussions on threads as to not loose focus on the main topic. In this case, the OP's issue of number-plate conversion (aka not-about-a-presea) .
  8. Dude, relax! You don't need to go deep into the Sinharaja to find the hidden temple of RMV to submit the forms. I'm sure there's enough signs directing you and people you can ask once you get there
  9. I'm going to presume you used random years the the example, but in reality even back in 2004 you couldnt import a car that was 9 years old; there's the exception of someone who may have used a blue-permit/gift-permit but it's quite unlikely that someone would waste the permit on a Presea. And I'm with TIV on the out-of-the-norm number plates. The first thing that comes to mind when I see one on the road is "ohhh something illegal or dodgy must have happened with that car".. That being said, as a buyer I dont think it would discourage me from buying a car I like as long as everything's legit.
  10. It was JC commenting on how unnecessary passenger airbags were Oops, i realized I didnt add the link to the video... I editted my post with it... I guess this should give more context...
  11. Interesting how perspectives on "optional extras" have changed in the last decade (or two). Especially on airbags. Though i still agree with some views such as the reverse camera/radar
  12. I dont think they are colourful enough. Since it was taken with a SLR it should show more colour and brightness. Else it looks like a camera-phone photo.
  13. It seems to be the fad to blame everything on the yahapalane now you do realize the government itself has little to do with maintaining the road right?
  14. If the odometer by design lets people arbitrarily change the reading it beats the purpose of having one! That's what the trip meter is for Pontiac, you're reading WAY too much into it. Just let it be!
  15. No offense, but this thread has gone a bit downhill; not that it was "the" place to learn digital photography at the beginning. It's the story of the ganrandiya that got into the house through the remote gate, slithered along the marble floor and hid behind the 55inch LED smart TV. And NONE of the photos shared can be considered a benchmark for performance. Shooting still objects in the middle of the afternoon hardly pushes a camera to the limit, so people should stop judging camera's based on this. There are dozens of photography FB groups to learn skills and be inspired and dozens of real experts like ken rockwell who will give you objective reviews of camera. Sharing general info and price comparisons is one thing, but if you're serious about buying/learning/using a digital camera, this isnt the place to be. Take it leave it that was just my 2 cents..
  16. It's not illegal. It's unethical. But someone knowingly selling a car with a tampered odometer probably can be sued for selling goods under false claims. Rather than waste time in court, you're better off being a more vigilant and educated car buyer. Remember, even if the genuine mileage is low, that doesn't mean the vehicle is good.
  17. Why dont you just give the next buyer the old Odo, tell him that it was replaced and the new odo started at XXXXX km. I'm sure he'll appreciate it more than a tampered reading.
  18. looks like there's some crazy Gen-2 guerrilla marketing going on on the quickie site! And some very bad experiences too!
  19. It's fairly straightforward.. Just popping out clips/screws to undo the caliper from the mount and the pads from the caliper.. rookie mistake was to think that letting out Brake oil would be the easier way to widen the gap between pads. What you should do is pry them open with a screw-driver.
  20. Do you know if your mechanic loosened any valves to let out any brake oil to make space for the thicker new pads? It's possible that this let some air into the system. I made this mistake the first time I tried to change pads myself. You'll need to bleed the system. IMO, you shouldn't need a expert to resolve this. Just goto a competent mechanic that you trust. Good luck!

    Nissan Leaf

I dont normally go with with seasonal fads like the axio, allion, pius and aqua crazes.. but the leaf seems to be quite something. The design isnt one you'll droll over, but you can grow to love it i guess.... I should recommend one to my dad. He installed solar panels at home and says the electricity tariff's gone down quite a bit. This might compliment the household energy use nicely.
  22. If you have a ca worth 2 million and I have a SUV worth 5 million, and we want each other's vehicles, we'll exchange vehicles and you will pay me the value difference of 3 million in cash.
  23. It's probably way too early to tell (because of Rumesh and Arun mentioned) Drive a few hundred Kilometers and see if it has come back to normal. Unless something was seriously messed up during the brake-pad replacement, it's a fairly simple and straight forward procedure.
  24. So I have been a fan of podcasts as of late and I came across this. It's on how GM wanted to bring the japanese car manufacturing culture/practices to the US. http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/403/nummi Oddly I see so many similarities about the work mentality between the american trade unions and those in Sri Lanka.
