  1. Hello Peeps! I was wondering if you can install a after market stereo in a Suzuki Swift 2010(Beetle)? I have given the picture of the unit below. Its a decent deck but I rather install after market and fix the tunning problem. Thanks
  2. To all you guys wondering if the "unlimited" clause still exists. It does not. I know this because I just applied for a new phone connection with ADSL recently (Dec 2010) and they do have a cap as the SLT sales rep explained clearly. I was happy to leave the horrible AirTel 3G connection behind so was not complaining. Can't remember exact cap but it was somewhere close to 10GB per month then you get charged per Kilobyte on the 512K down package, with the 'lite' package you get charged Rs.500 and they bump your speed upto 1000K down but the cap is very low, think it was 2GB per month and charge you per additional Kilobyte after that. My connection clocks about 55-60K.

    Hyundai Getz

Well bud I am in the same shoes as you. I am looking at a late 2003 Getz. Took it to Hyundai Lanka today for an inspection and sure enough there were some issues with the suspension, they said it might cost between 60-100K. The owner admitted replacing spares outside of company. From what people have told me most problems with Hyundai's are the result of spares mismatching since most mechs are not familiar with the cars. So you have to go through the company for your work; or so I have been told by some Hyundai owners. Negotiated the price down by 50K so the car would cost 14 lahks. Well its got some engine work as well. Hyundai's suspension is nice and smooth but it comes at a cost of faster wear and tear from my experience driving Hyundai's. The 3 cars I have driven all had some sort of front suspension problems. But can't deny the smooth drive that is lacking in most Jap cars in this price range. The agents said that the 1.3L engine is the same 1.3 that comes with some Accent models and they have most fast moving spares in stock (roughly around 80%). I think with the unreg duty hitting close to 340% prices of registered cars have risen a bit. Hope this helps.
  4. Hey! Thanks for the post. Some interesting points here.
  5. I had the same situation late last year. Decided to get a Vios and checked out about 17 vehicles at many dealers in and around Nugegoda. Most had about 15000-35000km on the ODO. Since I was going to put a lot of money (for me) down for this thing I checked each vehicle out completely and found excessive where and tear on vehicles with only 15000km-30000km. From the looks of the wearing it seems like the vehicle must have done in excess of 60000km. I found the same situation repeated in many dealers with vehicles seemingly showing excessive wear for whats on the ODO. To satisfy my curiosity I went to this guy who turns the meter. He said that any vehicle can be turned digital or manual ODO. Found an S grade at autozone holdings in Nugegoda. The vehicle had done 66187km but it showed less wear and tear than some of the under 30000km cars. You have to be careful because some of these cars are beat up taxis that these guys pickup for cheap and turn the ODO. Got the vehicle just before the last duty increase for 27laks. Now the dealer says the average for an unreg S grade is 3.1mil. By the way do any of you guys known where the AC filter is located in the Vios assuming it has one?
  6. Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Special thanks goes out to Nuwan, RACERSEDGE. Got an K&N filter that fits on the mount the Apexi was on from Eranda. This way I did not have to change much with exception to the actual filter. The K&N is washable so thats a consolation since the Apexi is disposable. In my search for filters I have found that there are Pre Filters for the performance type filters. The pre filter is a bag that goes over the actual filter protecting it from moisture and micro dust particles. So far have not found them here so I am going to try and get someone coming from the U.S to bring it down, Here is the link below. http://www.autoanything.com/air-filters/65A2582A-1A1.aspx
  7. Sory for the delay in getting back to you. Did not log in for a few days. Anyways this is what the filter looks like. When you talk about inches would that be measured from the front end or the back end of the unit? http://www.apexi-usa.com/graphics/products/166_t.jpg Gracia's
  8. Well I decided to do away with the custom Apexi system and go with the stock filter box. The problem is I dont have the original filter box that came with the car . In the process of searching for one.
  9. Then again from my experience and from what some users have mentioned in this forum, parts for the Vios are not as freely available, other than the small service level stuff like stock filters. Toyota has to place an order to Japan and it goes through a long process before ending up in Thailand. In the end there is a long delay and a higher price for the parts. I wonder how the Honda is when it comes to the parts question? Speaking to someone from a taxi service; they did mention that they have a Vios and a Fit in the fleet. As the vehicles get used often the Fit seems to have a better build quality with fewer rattling sounds and does better on fuel like already mentioned here by some. Both have Auto Tranny.
  10. Yeah that some brilliant food for thought right there. But I think Praba is a little too explosive. He's crossed so many lines and even India wants him so its unlikely hes going to step out of hiding. He's got too much to loose; hell probably continue where is at as long as he can.
  11. I had the same delima as well, went for the vios. Prefer a sedan personally. Guess it boils down to what you value more in a car and how the car fits into your personal style.
  12. I think the opposition head is a good strategist when it comes to the economy but unfortunately not a people person, and hence the cross overs.
  13. I think this tax free scheme is preposterous to begin with, if the country does not have foreign exchange everyone must bare the burden equally. By giving some individuals tax free scheme and putting 200% + tax on others the government is sending the picture that some of us are second class citizens. What you must remember we pay indirectly for government servants by means of taxes. Sorry about the rant but it irritates me when I have to pay 3 times the price of a 3 year old compact car while some folks get to buy a brand new sedan for that same price. I don't mind paying the tax but I don't like to feel ripped off when others don't for no valid reason.
  14. The engine started sounding raw this Sunday and fuel economy was atrocious. Took the vehicle to Toyota today. They said the spark plugs needed to be changed and that the Apexi air filter was pulling in lot of dirt and they cleaned the air intake/valve. Don't know how true it is but Toyota service said that while increasing air flow the Apexi lets in more dust as well and not good for local conditions. Unlike the K&N you cannot clean it; it has to be replaced and they are by no means cheap filters. Toyota actually admitted that it would be more worthwhile for me to find a stock unit outside instead of charging me Rs. 40000-45000 and keeping me waiting for months for it to come...lol. Decided to do away with the Apexi and go stock (if I can find a stock unit) .
  15. Thanks for the suggestions guys, I will follow it up and post when I solved the issue.
