  2. Hi, thank you all for your advice. If my budget allowed I would love to go for the Montero sports, Discovery, Prado ..the choice would be limitless but alas that is not possible. \ The Teana would have been a possibility if it was a diesel; I have constraints on how much i spend on fuel. I was using a Toyota Verossa. Lovely car; plenty of space, a nice 6 cylinders under the hood and rear wheel drive ( had it for 7 years). I was pumping 23,000 rs a week and that was a bit too much. Not only is my budget limited i have to think of cost of fuel, space and prefer a vehicle used sparingly. Hence the decision to go in for a Santa fe or Sorento (leaning a lot towards Santa fe). This is why a 2 WD or 4WD did not matter much. on a lighter note with my criteria the best would be Hiace van..... space... diesel, price, reliability......BUT, the Wife simply won’t have it. Once again.Thank you all.
  3. Hi, I am looking at buying a 2008 4WD, Diesel low mileage Kia Sorrento. The 4WD is not much concern as i do not intend in doing any offroading. The budget, mileage, fuel efficiency and YOM is important. The mechanic tells me after 100,000 km the engine and gearbox start giving trouble. Further to this any opinions about the Hyundai Santa fe 2WD 2007 model? Which is more fuel efficient .... The Kia Sorrento or Hyundai Santa Fe ( Both Diesel ) Any advice, Thanks
  4. Hi, The Wii my kids play with is hooked on to a hard disk for games and you have to go through the Homebrew channel to access the games. It was working fine till yesterday and then its suddenly stopped. Now the screen does not go beyond the bubble screen and there is a cone shaped icon blinking on the bottom right hand corner of the screen. i checked the HD by hooking it on to the computer and it was accessed fine: including the game partition. Any ideas on what the problem could be or any one who could help resolving the issues...... Thanks and cheers... Dinuke

  7. I recently had the privilege of seeing how the best drivers in sri lanka park their vehicles and took some pictures to share with you all. Here they are. I also had the rare chance of seeing the perfect use of lanes at traffic lights. Hope these pictures help those not versed in this fine art. 8. I have used this particular bike. At that time the most expensive item to replace was the shock absorber. Overhauling the engine was pretty straight forward and reasonably priced then. Do not know if parts are still available. It would be difficult to miss a piston lap if ever there was one. Make sure the power valve unit is working well. The bike is useless in my opinion without a good working power valve. I believe the bike had a CDI. Wonder if they are still available if it packs up. Cheers...Good luck>

  13. Hi, Has anyone got a clue on what the fuel consumption of the 3liter (Diesel) version Toyota Smart Cab is. My friend is getting around 7 km per Liter and most of his running is done out of colombo; Is this acceptable. If not what could be the problem. Thanks
  14. I believe that the clicking sound comes from the relay and that is why we initially thought it was an issue with the relays. Cheers
  15. had a similar issue with my car. The car would not start up even though i had a new battrey in it. thought initially it was the relays and when the mechanic could not find a fault with it he checked the starter motor, there was no problem there either. Then he kept shifting and moving the gear knob while turing the car over and it started. He said it was the auto-gear slector problem and started checking it. True enough; The wire harness connectors leading to the auto-gear slector were loose. Did a bit of soldering and now the car is right as rain.
  16. Did he use any extra adapters such as wide angle adapters with that lens. I have heard that using heavy adapters on basic lenses cause the life span of the lens motor to be cut short dramatically. I use a Conon Rebel 1000D with a 35-80 mm lens. A guy in Singapore tried to sell a wide angle adapter to me when I was there; luckily before I bought it I checked with my friends over here who advised me against it. better take it to metro; There is a workshop near NIBM. They are quite helpful.
  17. Whats the deal with the so called Synchronized traffic lights ! I believe quite a packet was spent for "the" Synchronizing. As far as I have experienced there is no such thing happening. The Parliament road is utter chaos. The welikada junction traffic lights hardly ever work. Even if they do work, our hard working, honest and duty conscious men and women of the police force see it fit to stand at the intersection waving their arms about over ruling the lights. I am sure these policemen can be put to good use by making sure all and sundry would observe the road rules. After all the RMV makes sure that we know them all before we are issued with a driving license. Most traffic jams “now” are because some idiots drive on all lanes; even cutting across from the extreme left to the other side at the last minute because they have to make the turn and vice versa, right in front of our esteemed keepers of the law, to boot. If the traffic police have so many personal to spare with so much time in their hand they would be put to better use if they made sure that road users kept to the law or better still keep them in the respective traffic departments so that when we do have to go the police traffic department to lodge and entry about an accident you have been in; no thanks to a errant maniac who sat in the toilet too long that now he has to cut every other road user off just to get his girl friend/wife to work on time there would be actually someone to take the complaint down…..Well that’s my two cents worth…
  18. Like someone here said it is how you deal with them. Our first point of contact is the customer care agent. In my honest opinion most are incapable of thinking for them self and quite averse to taking any initiative help the customer. All they do very well is to fake an accent when speaking in English and I honestly don’t know why they believe that this accent is going to help the customer. I too am with Union and have not had any trouble in all my claims. This is probably because at the hint of any delay I contact his manager and get the issues are sorted out within minutes. This is not before I inform them that I am aware of the many insurance companies that are interested in my business and would have no trouble taking it to them. You should seriously consider speaking to a manager or a higher up in the ladder and give them a time frame to sort out your issue. And if they don’t, never hesitate to take it to the Insurance ombudsman, SL I******* board and the Consumer Affairs commission. I personally do know that the people at the consumer affairs commission are very helpful. Most importantly, once you go through this hassle and get your problem sorted out make sure...very sure that you influence as many people as possible to not insure their vehicles with the problem insurer.
  19. Hello everyone. I came across this clip and thought it would be a good watch. Dont know if you have already seen it but if you have not here is the link. Cheers.
  20. Hi, Everyone. I will be visiting Thailand in the next coupla week and was wondering if any one of you knew where I could buy a Rada Detector in and around Bangkok. 21. According to my calculations ( assumptions 1USD = 107 sl Rs, 1US petroleum = 158.987 Liters, Today’s Crude oil price 140USD) 140USD = 14,980 Sl Rs. That is 1 US crude oil Barrel is Rs. 14,980 Sl Rs. That work out to about 94.22 Sl Rs. per crude oil per liter. I cant Imagine The price difference of 63.72 Sl Rs. per liter is only for processing/refining and transport. That is 67% of the cost of a crude oil liter. Dont forget that there are bi products from refining crude oil which are also marketable ( eg. Tar, Grease ect.) which will also generate revenue. Blaming the world market for current prices then, in my opinion is absurd. Increase gross domestic production among other things and you will find the dollar rate coming down. The government investing in developmental projects and welfare activity will bring down inflation. Stop Printing money. stop lending fuel at subsidized rates to loss making air lines. This is simple economics. Maybe then the fuel prices will come down. No doubt the entire world is feeling the increase in crude oil prices, but are their fuel prices as high as ours. are their inflation rates as high as our. If comparisons are to be made they must be made across the board. Not with, just selections that will suit just the argument. Just my two cents worth. Cheers

Had Same experience with dads car. The engine is a 1GFe. I have the same car with the same engine. I use 95Oct with Minaral engine oil. He uses 90Oct and Synthatic oil. Dont know if there is a connection or not.Toyota wanted 250,000.00 for his cleanup. But heres what we did. Took it to a Garage at palawattha, Battaramulla a well known personality. He did an oil change and another in one month and another in three months its now fine and did not cost anywhere near what Toyota wanted to charge. Hope this was helpfull.
  23. This is true!... This anachronistic law pertaing to the speed limit seem to have been put in place at a time where cars were driven on roads made for hand carts, bulloc carts and rickshaws. (Some drivers and riders are fit only to drive hand carts, bulloc carts and rickshaws.... but thats a different story)
  24. Notice how far past the red light the trishaw has stopped; it’s almost on the road with oncoming traffic. No matter the time of day or amount of traffic or even how much of a rush we are, I believe we should try to adhere to the road rules. We have noticed many drivers driving their vehicle on the center of a two lane road; keeping the vehicle on both lanes. Most at Autolanka being car enthusiasts should promote and practice proper driving etiquette, but not only have motors that are fast and pretty. They should also try and teach those that learn driving/riding from them, this. Let us correct our selves before we correct others !!!!! Cheers
  25. DID NOT KNOW ASTON MATRINS AND PORSCHE WAS MADE IN LANKA...!!!!!!!
