It is seen that nowadays some of the current JDM petrol cars with higher compression ratios (ex. Mazda SKYACTIV 2G , 14:1 ) can run on 92 , due to relative designs of exhaust manifolds. So we have many myths about these. In summary these are related to reductions of pinging or detonation and design variations time to time.

Yes, The heading says 'RPM vs speed' Ted's query was relative to his experience on a road test and he was asking accuracy of his figures probably at 1:1 gear ratio. I hope he is within the range for most of the mid sized cars with 14" to 16" in tire sizes.He has also provided a RPM range for a particular speed. What I meant were deviation factors for his figures.

As a measure lot of German firms source necessary spares from China. This will down the manufacturer costs and also relative low price differences against Japanese counter makes. Big problem for the Japanese Car makers. Our C/C Duty rates make the problem for worse. So the Mercs ,BMW become common people's vehicles. In future there will be no problem for this tropicalisation problem thanks to Chinese sourced parts. You are exactly correct Yes, Sales people don't know. Mechanics don't know best practices, Spare parts people do not know any thing. Completely inefficient. We don't know Red Carpets. Carm**t is well known for mismanagement. That is why they lost distributorship of many leading car makes over the years. Overall picture is that their staff are less knowledgeable on what they do.

Acceptable. Even in earlier days too Toyotas showed early ageing than other Japanese cars due to facts you explained. However real case was different than the pictured. You must have a good knowledge about the prevailing Duty stricture of Sri Lanka before importing. For example current Duty for a Toyota Prius is around 9.5 million.

Check the car's conditions,oil leaks, number of Kms driven, interior, exterior , corrosion & old repairs to the body etc,

I newly brought this car, I don't have history. and when the idling there is mis and suddenly nock is coming.and when the accelarating mute the engine. I doubt whether it is distributor, because why only third cylinder not function. How about, test the compressure Better to check the Distributor cup for any micro cracks internally also wire connections to third cylinder with wire resistance measure (as you said) before proceeding with the replacement with whole distributor unit. A test about the compression is also a possible clue. but beyond and not related to an ignition fault.

What you feel when the engine is running.?

it is ok used one. Try used parts shops around Dehiwala area. What is the actual problem ?. If it is the Distributor Cap or Rotor , those may be available as new parts. Why not suspect ignition wires ?

These things should be genuine or OEM parts. Same appearance cheap stuff bring funny results. Also the workmanship should be intact for better results.

I think you are providing misleading information in this regard and now you are saying a petrol smell inside the car. While you say a petrol burning and now an inside petrol smell , which are not related. It is better to have a look at the Petrol Pump area for this car, which is located underneath of the rear seat cushion. Check for any leaks/smell of petrol . If intact, please follow instructions given by members earlier & provide the existing fuel consumption figures as stated by Crosswind.

Since this car employs an electronic control for engine management, no adjustments to the fuel richness etc. Please make a cleaning of injectors and check the spark plugs and associated ignition system. If not improved, seek a professional approach. Make sure that no 'Check Light' indication. The Normal fuel consumption for this car is around 8 to 9 Km in city run and 12 to 14 Km/l in outside urban run with AC.
