  1. Wow... I don't have the time or energy to read through that post, but it clearly looks like some damaged person. I don't understand how one can be so envious of migrants when the world is a much much different place from 50 years ago. Back in the day, you'd get the same kind of hate if you leave your village and go to Colombo to find a good job/live a better life. The same thing is happening now in an international level, so haters gonna hate hate hate.

  2. Aha ! and another one emerges. @Mass01... 1. The foreign currency out pour was a significant issue even BEFORE COVID-19 (shows that you are one of those who have been clueless). Why did you, taking those leisurely drives to your kopi kade, not see or feel it ? Simple...on one hand...the government, through various policies were asking us so called immigrants to save our foreign exchange in the country (you know...those NRFC accounts and easy exchange to LKR..and those condominiums and stuff so called immigrants were enticed in to buying (no I do not own a condominium anywhere in the world)? On the other hand there were all the foreign workers (you know..the kind most Lankans call servants and baases and treat as lower class people) who lived and worked in the middle east, and east asian countries who were earning foreign exchange and sending it over to SL to support their families. Guess what ?? Now a majority of those foreign workers do not have their jobs in the Middle East and East Asia...so no more foreign exchange through their salaries. As for the other long term immigrants..well....considering what is happening with the Rupee and the fiscal policies and long terms strategies that change on a daily basis; most are reluctant to send over their hard earned money and also because what ever country they are living in is also probably bracing for a recession. 2. About working hard...you bring up a typical Sri Lankanism...living in the glory and success of others and of our historical achievements (all of which are 100+ years ago) whilst most trying to figure out how to not do anything (perhaps dream about taking leisurely drives to kopi kades).. Yes...we so called immigrants work a lot...and we send our hard earned money to SL. Now..don't you think rather than these people in SL, like we say in Sinhala "ïce gahanawa", actually worked hard themselves...you would not need anything from us immigrants ? You should have been able to raise the country's GDP and lower financial/educational/etc...un-equality by yourselves a long long time ago. 3. You bring up a second sad point about Sri Lankanism which is quite disgusting actually....the size of the house, the type of car you drive, the watches and clothes you wear are not measurements of a person's true value or their success. So it does not matter if the person lives in a mansion or an apartment (which by the way a large number of Sri Lankans in Sri Lanka do..and at the rate that our fellow country men procreate/breed is the only way forward to solve the housing and land issue in the country). 4. Yes...the cars are already in the country....yes the money is not going out of the country anymore....so what you are doing is taking money from one person and putting it in your own pocket through fear mongering and creating false pretenses (i.e. creating an artificial surge in demand to drive the price up). Makes it even worst knowing very well that the prices are going to go down once imports start again and the people buying these cars now are going to take a huge hit. There is nothing wrong in making a profit...but making a profit by jeopardizing someone else is highly questionable. (Plus thing is that buyers are actually starting to wisen up). For a country with people who claim to be devout buddhists/christians/muslims/every other religion under the sun, we are a group of people who have no quandaries in putting our own people down for our own selfish gains. 5. Ask any so called immigrant, your expressions are typical of a small group of individuals we have in Sri Lanka who have a serious inferiority complex when it comes to those who are working or studying (or have done so) abroad. So nothing new you can say to unhinge us so called immigrants. Yes..AL has a few immigrants in the group who have been around for ages. However, none of us have completely given up on our home country and still have strong connections to back home. We each have our own reasons to have left...but don't forget that most of the reasons boil down to the fact that some of us actually left because of the lack of opportunities and no clear direction for us to pursue what we want. Next time you are thinking of your kopi kade...perhaps reflect on why that is (or don't..why spoil your cup of tea). This is the only and last thing I will say on the matter....and knowing many of those who do have an inferiority complex when it comes to immigrants; a bit of senseless bashing would likely ensue. I will not respond, but just want to thank you for the entertainment.

  4. Facts vs Personal preference. I think we can establish the following with regard to the matter in hand. 1. There's no harm in driving away after starting the car without putting much of a strain to the Engine. 2. If you can spare the time, you can opt to wait till the car warms up/lubricate the engine block etc...

  6. Earlier today Nissan had yet another digital unveil for their Infiniti QX60 Monochrome concept. As with the Z, the QX60 concept is apparently a near to production concept. Again...there were more hints about the tech than what they had for the Z. So far it seems like the QX60 will most likely get a variant of the VC turbo V6 with a improved CVT and AWD system. Hmmm.... Now we in Asia do not get the QX60, however, the QX60 has been based on the Pathfiner platform...so this very well could signal the platform for the upcoming Pathfinder in this side of the world (albeit with more regionally appropriate engine choices).

  7. First point you should insure your vehicle for the current market value. If you bought the vehicle for Rs. 2.3 Mn. and now the current market price of the vehicle is Rs. 3.0 Mn. most likely your vehicle may be worth some where in between. Danger in under insuring is you may get only part of the claim proportioned according to you (sum insured / Market price)

  8. VW ID.4 : Volswagen's first EV crossover. It looks cute...supposed to have a 77kWh battery with a 200hp rear mount motor. Cruising range on a standard charge is supposed to be about 520km and about 300 something on a quick charge. 0-100 in 8.5sec

  10. That would have blown Tesla out of the Universe if they built it, but then again the price..... Yes there has always been bonkers cars by the Japanese like the Eliica a 8 wheel electric prototype. But sadly none of them saw the light of day. Also another forgotten car is the Nissan MID4 the first car to have the HICAS system and the predecessor to the ATTESTA 4w system

  11. On the topic of bonkers Japanese cars....Aspark showcased their Aspark OWL at a Tokyo Motorshow a few years ago...2017 I think ? It was supposed to be a 1900 (or something-ish) horse-power EV Hpercar..claimed it did 0-100 in like 1.5 seconds or something...was planning to build..20 (or 50) each priced at 3.2MIL USD So yeah...there are still some crazy Japanese car makers out there..

  12. Err.. my car here takes about a 5-mile drive during the cold season to give a reading on the temp gauge. I must be doing something wrong noh! Not really... its the car that decides when to start. I just push the button and wait. Usually starts within 60 sec even during the dead of winter (its a diesel btw). For a country like Sri Lanka, this is never a problem. Just like irage and trinity mentioned... don't worry about it.

  13. This is Sri Lankans being Sri Lankans - manipulating whatever prevailing rules/regulations to their advantage. The Kohuwela Cartel made up of the car sale guys and the seedy road-side buyyas(Disclaimer: non-political - means buy-and-sell folk) have a more effective marketing/advertising strategy than marketing departments of legit agents built on fear-mongering, speculation and hear-say. This is easy to do due to the average Sri Lankan's acquired taste for gossip,hear-say and rumors than legit verified information. For decades the average Sri Lankan car buyer would always trust Suranga with his bracelet and necklace on his non-existent neck croaking in his gal araccku seasoned voice say 'Owa nam ganna epa boss market na..leda enawa aye itin denna wenne na' over a Manufacturer warranty of 5 years. In this context it's pretty easy to spread out an idea that this is the last chance to buy a vehicle, and as a result the prices of some popular (made popular by Surangas) are just crazy. Also due to reduced loan rates people are now taking personal loans and buying cars and as a result some of these cars actually move maybe not at the crazy prices but still inflated prices. If buying a car is a must it's better to see beyond the herd and go for the many non-mainstream options out there. Sadly people don't realize it - I've seen people including some of our own AL Members try to explain the idiocy behind paying crazy prices for average cars on Facebook car groups but it's too much to grasp for the majority and the buyyas too get infuriated when their opinion is challenged and resort to kunuharupa. Anyway this is just a phase and imports will open at some point. So best is to wait it out.

  16. As for me...I used to go to a place which did allignments using hi-tech ie. computers, lasers, print-outs the full works. They were good for a time when they had a former CTB foreman at the controls, then things gradually changed and now they are utterly useless, basically ripping off customers in style and worst of all the owner does not tolerate any complaints from customers. His policy seems to be that the customer is always wrong. Now I go to a place at Walana in Panadura and they are perfect and I have absolutely no complaints. They use a manual system and at that an antique allignment machine (something worth at least to look at if computerised allignments are your thing) which they had got from Rowlands when it closed down. For me and the hundreds that throng the place everyday the system works perfect eventhough archaic!
