  2. The jeep is back home from the Jungle life. ZERO issues for them 5 days. 1000 plus kms(mostly deep off-roading). One full tank(4 liters less after the stainless steel lining) sand a 20L jerry can. So yeah Its super good on fuel. With AC and 2 passengers. The AC was even used inside kumana and had no issues. It went places where even the big boys stuttered(I’m guessing light and smaller size plus skilled driving helped). Even though the tires are butt ugly. They are original Dunlops made for land masters, which turned out to have bags of grip. Wading as also not an issue. Mainly due to Zero electronics, we were able to go deep. On the way back there was HEAVY rain all the way from Kumana to Colombo, 9 hour nonstop journey with constant AC and vipers/lights etc working, the thing was having no issues. Lights are also powerful and the yellow fogs always help. Next up it needs a stereo and speakers. Nothing crazy though. Just two in the front and two in the back. No amps No subs. Single din pioneer with cd/usb/radio/bluetooth. And a magnetic phone holder for maps and media playback. Thought of going for Bluetooth as its bit loud on high speed and holding the phone while driving is not cool. Also Bought a pair of walkies to take back when I can get back. Out of all our cars, this is easily the most loved and biggest stress reliever/happy machine. Makes life come close to how it’s shown on Instagram. Pics in Kumana Jungle Entrance.

  3. I replaced mine at the last service. Wurth-21' for the passenger side and 24' for the driver. Bit expensive though. Rs. 3971/=for both. Looks like yours a good deal.

  4. Just a quick update on replacing wiper blades: Got the original NWB wipers replaced with Bosch ECO graphite-coated wipers about a month back. Couldn't find originals from the agent so went with the cheapest alternative, Rs.1500/= for both wipers. It remains to be seen how long these would last. Made in China. These have a different locking mechanism (but holds just fine) and a touch longer than original wiper blades but did a surprisingly good job so far. Passenger side takes a 18 inch blade and the driver side takes a 24 inch blade.

  5. For your car, you have to use an oil with VW 505 000 standard, which will be a high end fully synthetic. Castrol EDGE 5W-30 meets this requirement. Else, liquid moly 5W-40 Molygen was previously available in the market but from what I heard agents (Semini Mortos) has an issue with their imports license. In my opinion, rather than going for an expensive oil first check with your service records and what type of oils previous owners have used on it. If the engine is in good condition, I would highly recommend you to stick to manufactures requirements. Because in the long run, it will be economical for you. Further, you do not have to stick for 7500km service interval if you are using the vehicle in moderate traffic conditions. With correct oil and filters + super diesel you can exdend the interval for 15000kms.

  6. Thanks mate. Keeping it skinny. Few reasons to do so are- 1. Looks more original. 2. Much better off road(specialy in narrow and tricky bits). 3. Cheaper. 4. Easier on the suspension and running gear, etc. 5. Pulls much better with skinny. 6. Not as noisy as them fatty rubbers. 7. Every 4dr guy seems to get it nowadays. And hoon around town on pavements. The 4runner is actually better with the original trd off road pack tires. We used to sell the lifted with the big wheels(custom made by DSI). Slow and very noisy. Handles bad too.

  7. Fat Fan, Take your time complete same. I met another Jeep enthusiast on the road at Jaela few days back he told me he has 2 jeeps, the 31 Sri jeep is done very well, total cost only for rebuilding was Rupees 4 Million may be correct, will upload the Picture with the person who did the rebuilding. Best of luck all trouble you take to rebuild a vehicle. Very few will do today. Sylvester Wijesinge Sylvi.

  8. I thought 70 is better because of solid axles & lockers vs 200 does not get lockers and its IFS? 200 only got brake based A-trac and crawl control right? If you off-road with it you would over heat the brakes and IFS won't be strong as solid axles right? I personally just like to use lockers vs A-trac. Again I'm just a beginner not a pro to give solid statements on this.

  9. I think You should try the other joint recommended by the members. Not worth spending 50K which is what they charge for the initial service. Subsequent services will cost you far less. My sunroof repair and assemble cost me somewhere around 4K

  10. Sourcing parts outside agents could be tricky due to import restrictions. Other wise there are ample supply for a car like yours online (ebay) etc. If you do bit of research on line for epc data for your vehicle you should be able to find required parts (genuine/use/specialist). Getting stuff down due to shipping issues and cost could be an issue. Maintaining at the agent with their part prices could be a costly affair.

  11. hI, Better get a specialist inspect and report on the vehicle you in tend to buy. from your description, , it; sounds like a chop shop special.. TT.

  12. Thats BS. Parts are available and even probably being manufactured by Audi, since these cars are still running all over the world. Try panchikawatta (Darshana enteprise, Golf motors and other..). In worst case, it can be replaced by a Japanese vehicle part, with minor modifications. These cars are still somewhat less complicated with older technology.

  13. Thanks for the feedback, Quiet. Msg well noted. Since I read very bad reviews on Vishwa Motors, I thought maybe I'll try out Bosch, but now after reading your feedback, I've changed my mind. I called Sunway Motors after member "Kadsa98" recommended it, they said it can be done and it'll cost about maximum 15k for service, with filters changed. I've also read lots of positive reviews about the services of European cars and also Members "Peugeot407" also recommends it, so I'm more inclined to try this out (Sunway Motors) Yes like "Peagout407" said, Lalana is Ex Vishwa Motors. @Quiet if you dont mind, may i know how much it cost you for the sunroof repair? The solar panel in my car is functioning, but sometimes the sunroof doesn't respond well. I went to drive one today for the Ac compressor, unfortunately they do not have parts for this vehicle as it is old, they stopped manufacturing parts. Tough luck. And also job wise, once they give a quotation for a certain job, we'll have to pay 10% of the quoted amount, if we are not going to do the job. (The only reason we might not do any job is because it is too expensive for us, in other words, not within our budget) I inquired about the service too, he said it'll cost about 50K with filters changed. Is this okay? They use Castrol Oil. Sunway Motors quoted 15k with filters changed and they use a Mobile Dev Oil, it's cheaper. Do you have any idea what is the difference between these two services? And what is recommended for my car. Btw if mine was a brand new car, whatever the manufacturered year, it won't matter cause I would prefer the Drive1, I dont mind spending a bit more. Since this is my first car and also an old car, used by 2 owners before me, I'm in a dilemma right now.

  14. Lalana was a founding member Vishwa motors and he was trained at Carmart. For your requirements Sunway automotive will be a good option.

  15. ..and as we have said many many times...this is the reason it is popular in Sri Lanka. Modern cars cost too much for Lankans to maintain.

  16. I would say old school and easy to live with. It's an old platform. Many economy cars of that era didn't had it.

  19. All CVT equipped vehicles should come with Hill start assist option
    1 point
  20. Wait....are you telling me that the Allion/Premio does not have hill start assist ? That is a bummer...I thought my Father in-law's ex Allion 18A had it....Nagasaki is a very mountainous area and I cannot recall that thing rolling back on me. Hmmm....

  21. One reason is when you stop in the middle of the hill and apply brakes, CVT would put the transmission in neutral. When you press the accelerator there's a delay to shift back into D and the car rolls back. Solution is to use hand brake. For small inclines this is not necessary but for steep ones I always use hand brake if i have to stop and go. Feature such as hill hold would overcome this.

  22. To be honest I don't feel this problem 9/10 times in my car. Neither did in my previous Vitz given that I regularly travel up country. What I do feel is something similar to a kick down in a regular automatic if accelerator is pressed hard.

  23. Yupp ! That is an early D21. Stay away...that thing cannot be a legally converted vehicle at all if the chassis is a D21. If a legal conversion (after getting a body permit) was done then the chassis should be a Y720 with a Y720 or D21 body on top. A chassis/frame change is an absolute no no...so there is no way a Y720 book can legally get a D21 chassis. Walk away

  24. While that sounds good on paper when you realize the car isn't moving the reflexive reaction is to depress the accelerator harder Conventional automatics are much smoother in similar situations. Either they move without complain or start doing a burnout!

  25. hi, i guess its common to CVTs. i used to experience this in a Allion when its on slight hill. i avoid this by shifting to a lower gear. i have had similar experience with the civic 10th gen at around 29-30 speed. i had a colleague who had much more severe slip/jerk in his fit. it seems to be an issue with CVTs. i have not experience this in C180 20111/12 models.

  26. It seems like the thieves aren't aware that you need to depress the brake in order to change gear of an automatic ? Reuploaded to YT because FB videos get hidden for some reason Warning : Explicit Language (Sinhala)

  27. Thanks guys! been a while since I came around to this thread. This video was shot a few years ago. Took a bit of time to edit and upload by the content creators. I didn't mean to be rude or blunt (I didn't realise it came across as such) I think it was important to be honest. I was fairly uninformed with some of the decisions made with this car and it shows. It isn't a perfect weapon of a car. Doesn't make me love it any less though :D

  28. HOW YOUR FAMOUS FIVE STAR VEHICLE SERVICE STATION IN SRI LANKA, CHEAT YOU / RIP OFF. a. Filter Px : They insist on using their Filters. ie. Oil, Air, Fuel. If you challenge it, they will say that, there Filters are the most reliable & they will take the responsibility. But, the truth is that, there is no way for us to prove that, THE BREAK DOWN OF YOUR VEHICLE IS DUE TO THE QUALITY OF THE FILTERS. Therefore, even if you use Service Station Filters or any other parties filters or Authorized / Sole Agents Filters, the result is same. The Px of their Filters are aprox. Rs. 1,000.00 - 3,000.00, more than the Filters available in reputed Spare Parts Shops. As the service stations are highest users / bulk users of Filters, they should charge less than the Spare Parts Shops. But, the Service Stations charge very much more. Pl. get the DISCOUNTED Pxs of the Filters from a reputed Spare Parts Shop & compare with the charges given in your next service bill. If you do not have a reputed Spare Parts Shop, check with G.S. AUTO SPARES (PVT) LTD. TEL. NO. 4542666 / 3136977 / 0773404497 - This is where I buy it. SOLUTION : ALWAYS BUY YOUR FILTERS FROM A REPUTED SPARE PARTS SHOP, AT THE HIGHEST DISCOUNT. b.Filter lifetime : Each type of Filter has a lifetime for usage. It is given by the manufacturer. eg. Oil Filters - 5,000 kms ; Air Filter - 10,000 kms ; Fuel Filter - 15,000.00 kms. When the vehicle is handed over to the Service Station, they will fill up a check list & get your signature. They will always put it to your mouth saying that, we will change all Filters & it will be marked in the check list. Specially, if you are sending the Vehicle through a Driver / Employee, they will do so. At some Service Stations, a tip is given to the Driver / Employee, based on the value of the service bill. The truth is that, at 5,000 km service, you have to change only the Oil Filter & the other two Filters are still usable. But, they will change all Filters & if you challenge, they will show the check list signed by you. They replace all the Filters & keep the Fuel Filter & Air Filter (which is still usable) with them. They will clean your Filters & use it to another Customers Vehicle & charge him for new Filters. Therefore, even your Vehicle will get used Filters & you will be charged for new Filters. SOLUTION : ASK FOR THE LIFE TIME OF EACH FILTER (OR READ THE LIFE TIME GIVEN IN THE BOX) & CHANGE ONLY THE EXPIRED FILTER/S. AT LEAST, BE PRESENT, WHEN CHANGING THE FILTERS. c. Extra Labour Charge : The Service Stations doing the above will ask for an extra Labour Charge, if the Filters are brought by the Customer. There are enough normal Service Stations, which will fix the Filters brought by the Customers, without an additional charge. In case of the so called five star Service Stations, even if you pay the extra Labour Charge, you will have a saving & you are sure that, your Vehicle has a new Filter. SOLUTION : SELECT A SERVICE STATION, WITHOUT SUCH EXTRA LABOUR CHARGE. d. Cost of Engine Oil : The Cost of Engine Oil should be cheaper at the Service Stations (in Drums) than the Spare Part Shops (sold in sealed Cans), as the Service Stations use Oil in bulk on Drums & the usage is very much higher than the Spare Parts Shop. However, the Oil Price is higher in Service Stations than the Spare Parts Shop. The reputed Spare Parts Shops give a discount of min. 15% per 5 litre Can for cash purchases. In case of promotion times, a litre is given free, as well. If you do not know a place, contact G. S. AUTO (CONTACT DETAILS GIVEN ABOVE). Pl. get the DISCOUNTED Px of the Engine Oil from a reputed spare parts shop & compare with the charges given in your next service bill. It is best to buy from a Spare Parts Shop than an Oil Mart, to ensure that, the Cans are not adulterated. SOLUTION : BUY YOUR ENGINE OIL IN CANS OF 5 LITRE, AT THE BEST DISCOUNTED PX. e. Volume of Engine Oil : The five star Service Stations use a pump to fill the engine oil, from their large Drums. There is no guarantee that, the engine oil in these Drums are not adulterated. They will pump it to a 5 Litre Oil Can & you can not see how much they fill to the Can, as the Can is not transparent. ie. it is a black Can. Therefore, you will not know how much Engine Oil is filled. They will fill only 4.0 - 4.5 litrs & charge for 5 litrs. In some cases, they will put 4.0 - 4.5 ltrs from the 5 litr Can & then another 0.5 Litre will be filled to a litre Can & charge for 6 litrs. As per manufacturer of the Vehicle, the empty engine could hold only 4.0 - 4.5 litrs. SOLUTION : BUY YOUR ENGINE OIL IN CANS OF 5 LTRS & ASK FOR THE CAN TO BE GIVEN TO YOU TO CHECK WHETHER THERE IS ANY REMAINING OIL. ALSO, ENSURE THAT, YOU ARE PRESENT, TILL THE OIL CHANGE IS COMPLETED. f. Extra Labour Charge : The Service Stations doing the above will ask for an extra Labour Charge, if the Oil are brought by the Customer. There are enough normal Service Stations, which will use the Engine Oil brought by the Customers, without an additional charge. In case of the so called five star Service Stations, even if you pay the extra Labour Charge, you will have a saving & you are sure that, your Vehicle has right quantity & good quality Engine Oil. SOLUTION : SELECT A SERVICE STATION, WITHOUT SUCH EXTRA LABOUR CHARGE. g. Additional Work : As said before, they will add at least one more Job (eg. change of Auto Transmission Oil, Cleaning of Engine, etc), in the same manner given in (b) above, for each Service, which is not required. SOLUTION : BE ALERT FOR SUCH SUGGESTIONS & IMMEDIATELY INSIST ON BASIC SERVICE ONLY. ALSO, READ THE CHECK LIST, BEFORE SIGNING IT. h. Incentives on Profit / Turnover : The five Star Service Stations employees / Managers adopt all this to show Profits & Turnover, as they get a daily / weekly / monthly commission, based on Turnover & Profits. SOLUTION : SELECT A PROPRIETOR OWNED & PERSONALLY RUN SERVICE STATION. I. The worst is that, when the above is exposed to the Manager & asked for the contact details of the Chairman / M.D., the Manager accuses the Customer of scolding him & misbehaving / taking it up at the reception. He goes to the extent of black listing the Customer, saying that it is done with the blessings of the M.D., who was abroad. In addition, he inform all Branches not entertain the Customer or provide contact details of Chairman / M.D. When asked to show the CCTV footage of the incident, it is refused as well. So, you are left at their mercy, after getting cheated. Please read this, too. https://www.facebook.com/ken.vijayakumar

  29. Both headlights of my Vitz 130 were stolen by thieves while parked overnight in car park of a service centre next to my house. Police is suspecting kuddos and shows no hurry to investigate. Got them replaced at my own expense and waiting for the insurance to reimburse. ?
