  1. remember hearing from a friend that LiquiMoly ( additive to the fuel tank) is an effective solution.

  2. I put Mobil 1 0W-3 fully synthetic oil for the 6 or so years I had my previous car (Honda Civic Hybrid) from Sterling but did the service at 7500km. I ran about 1000-1500km per month. Maybe you can do 10k with that oil, but I didnt want to take any chances with the climate and extreme traffic conditions in SL so I did it at 7.5k just to have peace of mind. I never had any engine related issues in that car and I had run 125000km by the time I sold it. I also changed the CVT oil at every 10000-15000km. Agents recommended 40k intervals. But there was a noticable improvement in the shorter cycle changes I did after researching online. That CVT ran smooth without any issues until I sold it. Did I go overboard with oil change intervals? Probably yes. Was it worth it? Absolutely.

  3. Do this calculation first: Price of a new tyre = Rs. X Value of your life (+ your husband/wife/girlfriend/boyfriend/children lives) = Rs. Y If Rs. X is greater than Rs. Y, use a tube with your tyre If Rs. y is greater than Rs. X, then go get a new tyre immediately It's that simple.

  5. The additive will loosen up impurities that are stuck in the injectors, fuel filter, lines, etc...these (which are the size micro-particles after having broken up) will get injected in to the engine and eventually get cleaned/flushed-up by the oil. SO in essence the oil is dirty. Dirty oil is not good.

  6. Reputable additives are okay if you want to chase away some water build up and break away some minor impurities in the filters and the injectors. It cannot replace a proper, hands-on cleanup of the fuel system. So it is okay for a occasional flush out. Anything excessive would require frequent/significant use of the additive and that might cause long term damage (filters getting worn out, etc...). Again...reputable brand is key here....I would stay away from the STP cleaner as I have come across many people in many countries who had trouble with it (it used to be good but the new ones seem to be a bit harsh). So within a SL context I suppose that leaves Wurth and Liquimoly ? It is important that you put an additive only before an oil change (especially if it is the first time you are using it) and most of these additives o recommend that.

  7. I don't know what the best is...but I have had Sikkens primer used on my old car....I don't know if it is good or bad....I just know it did not give trouble. You should know that it is not good to leave your car sitting around in bare metal for long. The moisture gets in and pretty much starts oxidizing the surfaces (remember it is bare metal and now you don't have anything protecting it). Before you put primer on the body make sure it is properly prepped. If not you are just trapping everything underneath the layer of primer. In Sri Lanka there is a tendency by many tinkerers to fill the body up with putty (mainly because they are lazy and/or do not have the metal working skill to shape out the metal). More than bad primer what is common is the vehicle being slathered with bad putty giving trouble over time.

  8. Dashboard is the main source of creacks on EU cars running on our roads. But trying to fix them should be done only with a very patient mechanic with experience on EU cars (all screws are well hidden, different from Japanese cars), otherwise you end up with broken plastic and wires .

  12. What is the car make and model? The manufacturers have tried to idiot proof these systems in most modern cars and the gears will only engage if it is in the appropriate speed and RPM range and not just because some bloke wants to shift for the sake of shifting.

  14. There is no specific size of the mirror. Only suitable mirror available in the market for this purpose is Old Lancer Box mirrors. You can find it in Panchikawatta under Rs. 2500. As I know there is no specified length of bonnet either. But the examiner ask the model of the vehicle before they recommend the licence under monocular category. So, the vehicle should have a sufficient bonnet length to fit the mirrors. When you sit on the driving seat, you should be able to see the objects through bonnet mirrors up to some extent. (these bonnet mirrors do not provide clear vision scope than the usual side mirrors) After fitting bonnet mirrors, you'll have to show it to examiner of RMV (either RMV head office or district office), and they will examine the vehicle. (apart from bonnet mirrors, they will check engine number and chassis number of the vehicle). Inspection report of examiner, medical report, vehicle CR and other relevant documents will be scanned to RMV system. No disable badge or sticker pasted on the vehicle and no additional conditions are mentioned in vehicle CR. So, don't worry for that. No one would know you have a monocular driving license, except for people who are aware of the story of additional mirrors.

  15. I wouldn't trust those to be honest. There are so many brands of them but it's better you get a professional tune up done. I used one such product (forgot the dumb brand) and once in a while suffered tiny misfires when downshifting (rare but happens) even though I used the right amount. Heard someone who's diesel engine started having problems after using such a product too. Get a tune up done and focus on your driving manners and concentration. Avoid driving during busy times unless necessary. That will help you get the best fuel economy and keep your car in good shape too

  18. An old man goes to a doctor and complains that he has problems with his sex drive. The doctor asks "How old are you"? The man says he's 80 Then the doctor says it's normal for people to not have a sex drive at that age Then the man says "But doctor, all my friends who are same age as me, say that they do it at least three times a week" So the doctor replies "So you also say the same thing to your friends" Hope this answers your question.
