  1. Personally, I disagree. However wrong the wagenR guy is in turning suddenly with no turn signal, the speed this guy was going to cause a car to fly into the air on impact... On a narrow road like that. This isn't the highway. In this case it was a car, but on a narrow road it could just as easily be a bike, a pedestrian going around a pothole, a dog. Anything. There is NO reason to ignore the speed limit like that.

  3. You can't really identify a tampered odo with 100% certainty but there are some things you can try: 1. Ask for service records. If the seller has service records from the authorized dealer you can verify those records with them 2. Check around the odometer for physical damages. Tampering with the odometer often requires disassembly of the odometer (yes, digital ones too) so there could be a mark or two left by a careless technician 3. Check the physical condition of the car. Multifunction buttons or handrests cannot be faded in a car that has done only 50k 4. Verify auction papers online if its an unregistered car via https://jpcenter.ru/report, costs $10. Verify inspection reports (JAAI/Jevic reports) too while you're at it 5. Get the car inspected and scanned by Carchecks. The ECU records the mileage each time you clear DTCs so there is a slight chance of tamper detection through a scan

  4. DIY Glove boxes When I bought the car there were no original glove boxes. So decided to make by myself as a DIY task in the post corona period. Here are some images of it. Used a thin Aluminum sheet as the base metal. The size for one glove box is 36"x8".

  5. Work from home with the curfew being imposed gives me a bit of time to write on my new vehicle. I have so far owned only cars and I have always been am ardent fan of 4WD's so I was on the look out for a vehicle when I was getting rid of the Fit Gp1. I wanted something that is reliable and something that could be used as a daily drive. This time I didnt mind going for a 3 door vehicle as my brother was going to be out of the country for a years period and I could use his vehicle to transport my parents. So I had a look at the quick ad website and found a Toyota Land Cruiser BJ70 (Short wheel base coil spring model) ex army auction vehicle. It was advertised at a home so I picked up the phone and called him up only to find that he had given it to car sale in Malabe to sell. Asking price was also ok so I went and had a look, vehicle was very well restored but when I took it for a test drive I was shocked to see how bad it was mechanically. It would pull hard to the left when I pressed the brake at low speeds and it was scary. So what I did was I spoke to my relative running a garage and asked how much I will have to spend to sort out the brakes, luckily for me one of his wife's relatives is a big LC fan and he had restored one of these and I was told to get in touch with him. No sooner I told him the details he gave the full back ground story, and he asked me to look a round a bit more. Look around was what I did and low and behold this Suzuki Samurai pops out from no where. I have been an big fan of the Suzuki's and I had so much of literature on the Suzuki's but this was something new as the ad said coil spring. So I did a bit of research and was happy to see that they came with electronic fuel distribution and 82hp engine. I dug into my stash and then I found the original brand new catalogue which bought me down to earth as it said 64hp and carburetor. I didnt want to let go of the chance so I immediately took a call to the previous owner and ensured that it was a personal vehicle and asked if he was in around Colombo to which he said yes and when I tried to go see the car he said that he didnt bring it and the vehicle is in Ambalangoda. So I asked my brother to accompany me all the way to Ambalangoda, at first it was going to be only the two of us but since they were going away for a year they wanted to go on an outing so the whole family went with me. When I got to the previous owners place I got to know that he has a few more Samurai's / Jimny's with him and restoring these were his past time. So I asked if we could take the car for a spin to which he agreed. The first impressions were quite good it did have good pulling power and when asked he said that he has taken it on the highway and reached 120kmph. I of course didnt want to take a risk on a completely new 20+ year old vehicle with a very high center of gravity. So we did the negotiations and finally paid about 75,000 more than I anticipated but for that money I had a few off road goodies included which altogether was worth about Rs. 300,000/- which was a pretty good deal. Kit Included, 1. 2" lift kit 2. Original Warn winch bumper 3. Whinch 4. Work lights 5. Original Suzuki for lamps 6. Roof rack 7. A brand new set of Maxxis Radial (In Australia they go as AT tires) 8. Working snorkel I was not a big fan of the external colour scheme and it was more of a "Thorombal Karaththe" look to it. I asked the previous owner why he went with that look and he said it was done during a phase of his life that he liked this colour scheme. Everyone has their own liking's. I took the car home through some scenic roads which included stops at some of my brother's friends and a waterfall and got back home in the evening. Very next day I took it to my relative and asked him if he could change the colour of the grille, door handles, wiper blades and mirrors as it was painted red and white instead of the original black. he agreed and so I proceeded to take off the stickers on the body. A change of plan came during the next week as the original book said Mettallic Blue, which according to the catalogue was a colour called Reddish Blue. So I went back and asked the garage to change the colour to the original colour as per the tag bit with a change only with the final coat which should be matt. There were a few loose ends that needed to be tied up and it was left at the garage for them to attend to all. The rains in October and November didnt help me one bit as it took them a long time to get it finished, and I was getting aggravated as I had planned to do the devil's staircase in November and was pushing them like crazy. It went to the extreme of me going and sitting in the garage on Saturdays observing the work. However two days before my trip I got the vehicle but disaster struck as the garage driver was stopped by police just taking the vehicle out of the garage without license and insurance. The next day I went and took the stuff and took the vehicle home and to fix a set of new wheels which I had planned. I took it all the way to bambarakanda but was not able to go up the devils stair case due to land slides etc. I had ordered a set of new LED headlamps but they got delayed to come so I couldnt fix it on the first go.

  7. No worries, that way too as I guess you can always repaint it as needed (No big deal, I think this is how the army do it on the ceramonial / operational gun carriages and associated jeeps/ troop carrier vehicles they roll out for prades and those always look great...)

  8. @Kavvz Thks for your feedback. The rims painted by me with a home made air compressor. So its just a simple paint job. No way to do powder coating. But did a clear coat on top of white for good appearance.

  9. The few people I know who are in this business go through the disassembly route though. I'm guessing Japanese cars need disassembling the odometer and changing values stored in the EEPROM. Have you seen someone changing the odometer value of a Japanese vehicle (especially JDM) using the OBD port? Did you mean #5? I think it's the launch X431. (Maybe cheaper iterations of Launch scanners are capable of this too, X431 is the top-of-the-line version. All I know is it IS a launch scanner ) The value "65535" doesn't change after passing that mileage so this car could've been cleared of DTCs after running 100k kms, but it's useful to confirm mileage tampering nevertheless, as long as the new (false) mileage is below 65535kms

  10. Loving the exterior design! Even that spindle grill doesn't look so ludicious anymore! And a proper F-Sport? Oh boy! That'll be one to watch out for! ?

  11. Lexus IS....the last... update/face-lift of the E30 series Today Lexus revealed the much awaited final update for the E30 series IS. Apart from the obvious visual enhancements, Other improvements include a slightly different engine setup and a new active suspension system. I must admit the new look has grown on me. Glad to see that the F Sport treatment to the IS actually makes it look a little bit more aggressive (still not a F car though). The new model is supposed to be launched in 2021 as a 2022 model (rumored to have a proper F version as well)...so this update will see the current series to an end (the E30 was launched in 2013). Not a big fan of the lazy, low-slung, connected rear lights though...hmmm

  12. well not as frequent as body parts for a Vitz etc but yes you can find body parts. by "50% under owners account" I assume you're trying to say that insurance will not boot the entire bill? well that goes without saying doesn't it? Anyways point is - while there's no reason to be paranoid about hybrids, there can be other less painful options which are always good to explore. At the end of the day if you don't have a hybrid you could quote Jayz and say 'I got 99 problems but a battery ain't one'

  13. Vanette C22, Member I have used Vanette 3 Vehicles in the past only one gave me the Carburetor problem similar to problem what you have. The best for same was I replaced a new Carburetor SU (Morris minor) Carburetor which have a very simple mechanism, not complicated like Japanese carburetors. This modification was expensive but worked very well, I have done this type for UK, Europe and Japanese made vehicles what I have used for last 40 years. If you want further information please contact me on my Email. Sylvester Wijesinghe Sylvi.

  17. Haven't owned one so this is purely based on experiences on one of my best friends former-car. 1. Nothing extra specific than regular maintenance 2. Not a big issue as people point out - there are a few third party vendors as well such as M**NA.I'm not sure about outstations though 3. As any regular sedan in that segment - 8-10 KMPL in city. 4. Quite ok - though I'd rate it a notch below a similarly priced but a little bit older Civic FD Series car.

  20. Same thing we heard in 1990's when automatic cars coming in to the market. For hybrids, this is true few years before. but bow there are enough places in SL to dealt with including some knowledgeable people. Taking your non-hybrid to any garage also not advisable. Isn't it? ?

  22. The answer is simple. Don't put your money in the share market, even when the share prices are attractive (now, for example). That place is infested by manipulators and its a good time for them to play their game with stocks that had a good reputation in the past (like large banks). Invest in a land instead.
