  2. UV light kills viruses. I saw reports of china using UV light to disinfect busses and trains during this COVID-19 outbreak. Drawbacks are risk of sunburn, skin cancer on direct exposure and difficulty in calculating the required power and time to properly disinfect. This is OT, but some important information that came out yesterday.

  3. Most regular cleaning liquids like Dettol do not kill viruses like HPV, HIV, Corona etc. Only the alcoholic sprays do, after about 30secs exposure ( source Google)

  4. @AVANTE there is also the car nano disinfectant anti bacterial fogger which is effectively a machine that pumps vapour in to the car which is said to kill bacteria. I know a bloke who uses these machines on his fleet and there's apparently a car detailer who also uses a similar device

  5. If it's your first car, a 30 year old highly complex BMW would not be the ideal call. If you have your heart set on a BM, then an E34 5 Series may be a better bet as they are very solidly built and have a good support network worldwide and in SL. If you want something completely trouble free though, look for something newer, and preferably Japanese (Or even certain Koreans). Man I cannot believe I just typed that... Age catching up, I guess. Then again, if you don't mind some garage time and want to actively be involved in the running and maintenance of your car on a molecular level, by all means, go Euro.

  8. Disconnecting the battery on a car with an EFI engine causes the ECU to be reset. This throws the fuel trims and stuff which contributes to the rough idle. The ECU takes a while to re-learn and let the engine run smoothly. If the car has a factory fitted navigation unit, the map data might be cached in the unit's memory which is volatile. If this is the case, disconnecting the battery without a backup erases the memory which will cause the unit to show the "Insert Correct Map Disc" error. Other obvious things that get wiped are your fuel consumption stats, mileages, radio stations, and other settings depending on options in the car. So no, it's not just hybrids.
